Big thanks to every one that hung out while I streamed this game. If you want to join me in the future, give a follow over on twitch! www.twitch.tv/jarek4gamingdragon
I wonder whats next, Jerek?....a sequel to a beloved 1996 fps that came out around the time of Quake, had been in development for 15 years by a certain 3D company with the motto: "Reality is our game." and the greasy company that butchered Colonial Marines....
Early on you mentioned there is no way to record PSP. The PSP-2000 and 3000 models had component output. But it looks like you have the PSP-1000. SO your current situation means you cannot record PSP, not that it is not recordable at all.
Liberation is one of my all time favorites, and the boneworks in the background was a nice touch
Do Dead Head Fred review psp best and emulator finest
Can you do chapter 5 in Killzone liberation please I hope you have a awesome day
My friend loves buying and refurbing the psp he has a huge collection or special editions and most of the colours .. sometimes when I'm bored I will sit with him while he works on them
Sounds romantic
@@AParticularlyConcernedCitizen the psp brings love in the air
@@goob8945 Just the way he/she described it sounds like the beginning to a cushy love story between best friends.
@@AParticularlyConcernedCitizen ow its very romantic the way he slides that led flex cable out of the main board or how he massages the digitizer away from the display on a vita it melts me every time
@@acid3129 Now you've made it erotic and it is no longer wholesome.
That PSP "nut" commercial is something I never thought I needed to see
Edit: Btw I would enjoy more PSP games on this channel
I don't know why, but this game gives me strong original MGS Vibes lol. I think it's the top down camera, the enemy soldiers using FAMAS looking rifles, and the fact that Templar's headband looks just like Solid Snakes XD Hell even the mech thing you fight looks like you're fighting Metal Gear!
I can see that
I actually get MGS vibes too. The color palette, props, and texture quality really remind me of MGS3 and somewhat MGS2. Makes me really want a new, modernized top down MGS game
Also, that roll looks exactly like the roll you can do in MGS3. Like how it starts out fast with a dive and then you slow down gradually with the roll part, and then you finally get up. The HUD also looks pretty similar to Peace Walkers HUD with how there’s a little low-res icon of the equipped gun filled in with white and how the bullets you have in a mag are displayed and go down with how many bullets you shoot.
Edit: also found another thing so instead of replying again, I’m just gonna edit this one
You should try out Coded Arms series. A PSP-exclusive series of FPS, and one of the first FPS games on a platform.
P.S: Still looking forward to win a Dread Templar key here!
It's probably one of the better psp fps games unfortunately even that game is still kinda mediocre I've played it quite abit over the years and over the years as I've been introduced to better fps franchises like the 90s fps games of doom quake and so on since around last year or so I've only been able to enjoy coded arms in short spurts
I was just thinking about Coded Arms. I can still remember the intro cutscene music
Coded arms is trash there are much better and more impressive psp fps games
@@_ok1735 yes, there are some more impressive titles like cod road to victory, but Coded Arms was the first one.
I was about to say coded arms 1&2
I know Killzone is a dead shooter game series, but Scolar Viscari's speech from Killzone 2 will always be a highlight for me.
Being dead does not mean being bad. Wing commander, f zero, star fox.Pretty dead.
Brain fart as I haven't played any of the games in years. Is his speech in Killzone 2 different from the first game? I remember the basics of that first speech and thought it did a good job of setting up the game.
Scholar Visari was mad man.
I really don't understand why this series died I also haven't played it since killzone 3 when it first dropped on PlayStation 3. So maybe that's why they died, lack of buyers. 😅
Killzone was really good to me, breaks my heart that they closed down the website. That says it all.
Kinda wish for another killzone game, they had some really cool ideas and concepts but they never really executed them well.
Same
That's pretty much it. There was a lot of good in KZ, but equally as much bad, so the series never really went anywhere. Guerrilla is definitely capable of delivering a solid title in the series, and I'd love to see them try...
@@KingdomOfApple Personally thought 2 was pretty solid.
@@lost8257 Killzone 2 had one of the best multiplayer player fps ever made, a very underappreciated game
@@nathanduncan672 I played the hell out of the bots in that game
There’s a 3rd person shooter Resistance game on the PSP, and you can easily play it on a PSP emulator. I’d love to see Jarek review that.
I remember being blown away by that game back in the day. A must play if you own the PSP in my opinion.
Resistance: Retribution, just finished that game, it’s not bad but it took me a bit to get used to the controls
Loved it. It was basically the Gears Of War for PSP.
Resistance Retribution was my introduction to the franchise back in the day. What a great game.
I absolutely loved that game!
This is now available in an official PS5/PS4 version with Trophies & Platinum, Chapter 5 for free and most helpfully, an instant REWIND feature. At any point you can hit start and rewind any number of frames. No limit to uses. It makes it significantly less frustrating. Maybe negates some of the challenge, but makes it a more enjoyable experience
Part of the fun of switching on the old PSP after many years is being reminded what your custom wallpaper image was when you were a different, younger gamer.
If you have a model 2000 or 3000 (unlikely if your friend bought it anywhere near launch) you can actually plug in component out cables to the audio and remote jack. Hyperkin makes a direct to HDMI one you could stream chapter 5 with easily. I'm guessing if you were that interested in psp and your friend had lost interest in his, he had a 1000 series which doesn't support it.
Sad day..
BUT you can actually use a plugin and a program to do it via USB if you mod the psp, I had a psp 1000 and try it myself (the only game that i remember didn't support it was the resistance one)
The PSP being basically a Portable PS2 but just with one analog stick has the same energy as the Nintendo DS having a SM64 remaster while it only had a D-Pad.
Great video like always!
How interesting the universe of Killzone seems makes me wish the games themselves could've stuck the landing. While I worship Bungie's Halo games, it'd be fantastic if Sony had their own Sci-Fi shooter to compete.
If it had actually played more like halo I feel like that would have been better in the long run. But they (1 and 2) always played like decent call of duty knock offs, they never really utilized the sci-fi setting enough. In a sea of cod like games they just never stood out that much. The multiplayer of Killzone 2 was decent but that was the only online KZ game I played
Sony just buy Bungie's killzone 5 👀
I liked Resistance more than both, but I agree. Killzone played more like a sci-fi CoD, but slower. I also agree that its sci-fi setting wasn't utilized enough.
Did not expect to see this on my feed. That is pretty awesome that you were able to review this game. Just know, this game is extremely popular for PSP emulation as this game and the god of war game are the two hardest PSP games to emulate.
Awesome to see you still have your original PSP 1000. Had a 3000 from the ratchet and clank bundle. Unfortunately it was stolen with my copy of Metal gear solid: peace walker inside of it. Which was probably my favorite PSP game.
Killzone is one of my favorite franchise. I'm really sad these games died so soon but I'm also glad that some peoples enjoyed some of them as much as I have. Thank you for this review and I really hope one day Killzone might come back.
Greetings from one of your French viewers.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the bazooka heavies. It’s an absolute pain trying to avoid the missiles they fire at you
Hey Jarek, little bit off topic, but i just wanted to say thank you. Recently i just finished my undergraduate thesis, and it's about one of the game you covered in on of your older video, the You Are Empty. So yeah, thanks for giving me the topic for my undergraduate thesis.
Ps. Good video as always!!!
I'm glad I could be of such inspiration! You also won the key. Do you have twitter/discord/email?
I really enjoy finding out about strange spin-offs of well-known franchises on other devices - especially if they change the genre or perspective. Great video and thanks for all the hours of entertainment!
Yesss thankyouuu always love the content especially the longer videos 💜
Socom was a pretty good shooter back in the day, Socom Tactics was also pretty fun
Damn. Too bad Killzone died, never had the real chance to try it out, always looked at least somewhat fun and interesting, especially for a kid raised playing Wolf3D.
Also, those Dread Templar tunes are sure as hell banging, eh?
I mean you have shadow fall on the ps4, but it’s more of a ‘next gen’ showcase than a killzone
The only time I played it was at my buddy's house in middle school (2007), we played killzone 1 online on his ps2 lol, was also my first time playing a console game online
As someone who played all the games, you're not missing too much. The 1st game was pretty generic. Cool lore, but the game, itself, was pretty eh. The next two were better, but tried too hard on the visual front and really pushed the PS3, resulting in the framerate constantly dropping below even 30.
Then the one they released on the PS4 looked great, but had an identity crisis, tried throwing in a dozen new systems, but kept the straightforward FPS style of the original, meaning it just told you HAVE to do this all the way through the game, with the mechanics having little to offer outside of the specific moments they make you use them on.
In my opinion, them moving onto the Horizon Zero Dawn series was a great move. If anything, I would be behind Sony remastering 2 and 3 for the PS4/5/PC being they were actually solid, visceral shooters that were hindered by their hardware, but I'm surprised the series lasted as long as it did, being the only (in my opinion) good games in the series played poorly performance wise.
@@jesserogalski1402 the 30FPS dipping framerate was a common thing back inthe ps3 era so it's not that bad considering how good the game looks.
@@vale_recca ye every game from that era did this
I love how the PSP ports for both this and Army of Two 40 Day went with a top down overhead view and decent controls made for 2 great games in their own right
A lot of work clearly goes into your videos. Your efforts are appreciated. 👍🏾
Ace Defenders of the Helghast dream, now is OUR time.
Man, I played the shit out of this as a kid. I'm still kicking myself for selling off my old PSP
You can emulate it on your smartphone these days with hardly any issues. Try the PPSSPP Emulator for Mobile.
Same, man lmao
Love your videos man, keep up the good work!
I consumed this game back in the days. I loved it. I especially liked the ragdolls,i found them revolutionary back in the days as a kid
You ever play mp?
Dread templar seems like the kind of game I would record for my channel, also I've been subbed for about 2 years now, love the vids
I just love your background music man.
Good job jarek as always! A good one that you cover, MGS Peace Walker.
Just finished Killzone Mercenary. I had fun. Hopefully you get a chance to stream it and I catch you on. 💪👍
Hoping for that templar key..Great video, as always.
When I first saw this name and the first person gameplay I couldn't remember it at all but once you mentioned the PSP and then showed the box art then it hit me. I have played this game and I'm pretty sure I still have the copy of it probably stashed away with my PSP.. wherever I put that... I remember the game being fun, a little challenging at times but overall a pretty good experience for the time. Gonna be interesting to see how it stacks up to modern scrutiny
I played this with a friend in coop and it was kinda fun for a while
This video was perfectly timed. My parents just gave me a bag full of old games I had left at their house years ago. It had some PSP games and UMD movies there.
Still holding out hope for another Killzone game, would be amazing if you finally got to play as the Helghast trying to recover their lost homeland on Vekta.
I got this game for my vita after I saw you stream it. This was my first PSP game I ever owned, brought back so many memories
It's still pretty interesting to see how every studio worked around the limitations of the PSP. and sometimes I wonder if the console would have had more of a future if it came with dual analog.
Probably. But since the PS Vita has dual analog sticks, it wouldn't have made sense to do so.
Ironically, the PSP outsold the PS Vita.
Incredible.
I already subscribed a while ago and I like almost every video I watch from you, I comment regularly also. So I guess, here it goes! I won't try to be funny, there's always this one guy who's funnier than most of us ;_;
Man, I woke up and saw the notif for this video and jumped up literally butt naked to put it on and got dressed while I listened to the intro lmao. You're like the only game review UA-camr that I can stand. (I also have my original PSP too. Those things are built like damn tanks!)
Man your video intro was great.
Oh hey rocking the bone tones I see. Love it
Man seeing a psp suddenly reminded me of the tragedy with some model's batteries inflated due to time.
I have one good Sony one left. But there are a few ok replacements on Amazon
I'd love to see Jarek talk about Coded Arms, I remember playing it way back as a kid and having a decent time.
Loved playing this and the multiplayer with friends at school back then
I would definitely be up to see a video on PSP FPS games. Dig up the old info on Coded Arms!
I loved playing the campaign with a friend in co-op, one of my favourite PSP games. Good times.
I only recently found this channel but I am enjoying the content
I never got to have a handheld console, all those games seemed weird to me, it was so strange...
Love your work bro 😉
There's Ghost in The Shell Stand Alone Complex As To Be First Person Shooter On Psp
realy love youre content keep up with the good work
Man, I share the exact same experience with you regarding the PSP. I still have my original first model, still working fine, and still a total blast to use. It was pretty much the first handheld that didn't only get those numbed-down, kid friendly games.
Would love to see more PSP games, it hits right on my nostalgia spot! Hundreds of hours playing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Those were the days man...
PSP is my favourite console just for the afternoons spent with my friends playing those 2 games
Dredd Templar looks absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to try it out.
i remembered we played so much in deathmatch of the game
I would love to see you cover resistance retribution on the psp. I never got around to playing and I think it would make an interesting video.
It was arguably the best game of the series. It combines the narration of the first game with the more personal story elements of the second. The graphics were limited due to being on PSP but it was stylized and still looked good. I wish I could play it remastered with a controller or mouse.
@@KBWrecker You could play it on the Vita. That second stick does wonders for PSP shooters.
It’s a cool game for sure the ending was weak but the game was pretty good on the PSP
Sweet, need to find this game for myself, just got myself a PSP because I missed out on it during my childhood, soo keen
Dude, if they make another killzone like this I'd love it
One of my fav FPS games on the PSP were Coded Arms and Coded Arms Contagion
playing Dusk and Ultrakill, Dread Templar seems like a pretty sweet mix of both, I'm in!
0:37 same here :) I really love to have basically all gba games there are with me in my pocket all the time, plus I can connect my earphones to it and listen to glorious soundtracks that'd never sound as good as just from the gba sp speaker I too still own...
Great Review (like always).
I would quiet enjoy if you would cover some PSP games and especially shooters since its something from my teens.
I also always wondered why there is no second analog stick and would like to know how they handeld them (the only game that was a shooter I played where the gta story games and those where...strange)
This video brought back memories i didn't know i had
The Music In The Background When You Start Talking About Each Game Sounds Like Grey Daze B12
Ah jarek the fact you able to even find this game is amazing
Lol I still have this game. It was fun playing a long time ago. I have it in the PSP Dual pack with Logan Shadow (which was a fun game too)
I also play a lot of my PSP back in the day. One of my favorite game was Resistance: Retribution and MSG Peace Walker (my first MSG). Could be fun if you do a video on that title. (It was a TPS, but work really)
And I will love to see more PSP shooter on the channel.
Man playing this game as a child was so much fun. Beaten it so many time.
Edit: if you are doing to do more psp, the would recommend the Syphon filter games in the PSP and even the series from the PS1.
Thank you for the reviewing this gem. This is my favorite game in the series, outside of PS3 sequels!
Hey glad you covered this gem. I played the Vita games before, they where not bad at the time.
Besides one Killzone title on my playstation that I don't remember this was my primary Killzone. I remember I got this with my PlayStation Portable and it entertain me for probably 6 months until I started buying more games that exploring what the PlayStation Portable had to offer.
I remember this game I never played it never had the chance but I wanted to excellent review bro
0:50 - 1:53 you just described my exact relationship with the PSP. I ended up playing Liberation on a school field trip when I borrowed that game from a friend. Good times
Wait I remember playing this a ton and really enjoyed it as a kid, memories of forgotten times
This made me remeber an interesting series that I used to play a lot on the PSP called "pursuit force", maybe you should take a look at it.
Definitely wouldn’t have noticed the used boneworks melody if it wasn’t for just getting a VR
For what it is worth, you can mod the Vita to take SD cards, although in the game slot, and you can set it up to output to a computer, so you can do screen capture on it. It is pretty easy to dump a game once you have it hacked, so you would have to dump Killzone: Mercenaries, move it to the SD card, load all of the plugins to make the SD card adapter work, and the video out over USB, but it is doable. I have one set up to do that myself, and Killzone: Mercenaries is a great game.
I remember Liberation back in the day, but I never beat it, probably for reasons stated here. I lost interest, but I still have it somewhere. Good video, I might have to pull it back out and play this one again, just for the nostalgia.
Aw man, I loved this game as a kid! But the spider tank boss and final DLC level were a real pain
I loved this game. Got it from a friend along with a few other games when he was about to move away, as a few things to remember him by. Got Liberation, Pursuit Force, and Daxter along with a couple others from him.
My PSP ended up dying a few years ago, so I've been wanting to get a new one. It's just kinda hard to find one nowadays for some reason.
I'd like to see you cover the OG PSP Medal of Honor Heroes or the Ghost in the Shell PSP game, which has a cool feature where you have an AI robot that you can give commands to, hop in and directly control as well as customize them. (With extra parts unlocked by cleating levels/shooting hidden Golden Robots.)
Also SWAT got a similar isometric PSP Shooter.
I just finished this game on PS4, and had to come back to watch the review. Everything Jarek says here is pretty much true. The game has its ups and downs, but to me its overall a 7/10 for me
I'd love to see you review Killzone Mercenary on PsVita. I genuinely loved that game and for me it still holds up to this day. Great Video, love your content
22:20
I remember that my neighbor and his brother both had psps. My memories of this console mostly involved me watching my neighbor play a God of War game on the bus ride to school in the morning
Hey Jarek, if you're going to play FPS games on the PsP I would suggest using PPssPP and rebinding controls in game and in the emulator. I think most FPS games on the PsP allowed for rebinding your controls and one of the important things here is that your could rebind aiming to the analog-stick instead of the face-buttons. In PPssPP you can then rebind analog-stick to the mouse and face-buttons to wasd, and with some tweaking you can get some reasonable mouse and keyboard controls.
If you do some more PsP games, here's some suggestions: Medal of Honor Heroes, Ghost in the Shell, Coded Arms(the first one is really interesting, a bit of a dungeon crawler fps), there's also a mod scene for Battlefront 2 on the PsP.
Never played a Killzone game but this makes me want to try it. Gotta find a cheap PSP
Emulated. Don’t bother buying the machine.
Absolutely loved my PSP back in the day!
I don't know what it is about watching your videos at night that helps my sleep.
Well... mind you I usually watch the whole 22 minute segment and then realize I could have probably passed out 22 minutes ago. But I do appreciate it
You remind me of my balding older brother. Same Tony Stark goatee look and everything.
Just wish he was as nerdy as you so I had somebody to game with when I was younger.
It's cool to know that we have very similar tastes in video games.
I literally just finished watching the game you are giving away. Funny coincidence that you are offering it now
But keep it up man I've been watching your vids more and more lately. Cheers!
Scolar Visari's speeches always make me hyped to invade vekta and defend helghan even tho those places don't exist
I remember that I loved that game when I was a kid and it also was my first killzone game and honestly probably the most I enjoyed
I'll always remember Egoraptor's PSP commercial parody, still a classic.
Man I miss my PSP and am still kicking myself for it…
Ace Combat X skies of deception was my jam.
This unlocked a memory i didnt know i still had
Loved this game when it came out!
This game was awesome loved playing it and resistance retribution.
I'd love to see you tear into Ecks vs Sever
This game was my childhood it was my go to when I was bored at elementary school along with mercenary on the vita
Also those Marcus rivers commercials were amazing as well lol
My parents bought a PSP for me on my b-day shortly after it was released. Only issue I had with it is that my parents didn't realize that you suppose to buy the games separately. So I was a proud owner of a PSP with absolutely no games to play for more then a month.
Killzone liberation was one of my favourite games on the psp. I still have my PSP too and played on it at the beginning of this year when I went on holiday to a place where there was no wifi. Portability was great.
Looks cool 😎
