Earth, Wind & Fire, Sally Field, Linda Ronstadt, Sesame Street, and Michael Tilson Thomas
Watch the 42nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors Celebrating Honorees' Profound Artistic Impact
Sunday, December 15 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
“The Kennedy Center Honors celebrates icons who, through their artistry, have left an indelible stamp on our collective cultural consciousness,” stated Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein. “Earth, Wind & Fire’s hooks and grooves are the foundation of a seminal style that continues to shape our musical landscape; Sally Field has brought us unforgettable characters, both joyous and poignant, for more than five decades; Linda Ronstadt is the defining voice of a generation, spanning genres, languages, and continents; Sesame Street continues to revolutionize how children and adults learn about our world; and Michael Tilson Thomas goes far beyond keeping score: he has shaped American music and musical institutions for the 21st century.”
“In this class of honorees, we are witnessing a uniquely American story: one that is representative of so many cultural touchstones and musical moments that make our nation great,” said Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter. “When I look at this class, I see the hopes, aspirations, and achievements not just of these honorees, but of the many generations they have influenced and continue to influence. We’re not just looking back; these honorees are urging us to look forward as well.”
The 42nd annual Kennedy Center Honors marks the first time a television program will receive the award. The co-founders of Sesame Street, Joan Ganz Cooney and Dr. Lloyd Morrisett, will accept the Kennedy Center Honors on behalf of the show, Muppets creator Jim Henson, seminal Muppets artists Caroll Spinney and Frank Oz, and the thousands of creatives who have built the program’s 50-year legacy.
On Sunday, December 8, in a star-studded celebration on the Kennedy Center Opera House stage, produced by Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment, the 2019 Honorees were saluted by today’s leading performers from New York, Hollywood, and the arts capitals of the world. Seated in the Box Tier of the iconic Kennedy Center Opera House, the Honorees accepted the recognition and gratitude of their peers through performances and tributes.
The Kennedy Center Honors medallions were presented on Saturday, December 7, the night before the Gala, at a State Department dinner. The Founding Chair of the State Department dinner is Elizabeth Stevens.
The Honors recipients recognized for their contributions to American culture through the performing arts-whether in music, dance, theater, opera, motion pictures, or television-are confirmed by the

There is no question that Linda Ronstadt is truly an American treasure. I have the pleasure of meeting her briefly as she hired my band, the street minstrels, for fundraiser for a local Ballet Company in Tucson. I had the honor of singing a Cuban song to her with my group. The song was "veinte años". She was 5 feet away from me sitting at her table at the famous Hacienda Del Sol in Tucson. I shall never forget it. Thank you Miss Ronstadt for your enormous contribution to American and international Music. Saw her in concert twice in the 70s (once with The Eagles opening(!), once with Andrew Gold). Still among the peak experiences of my life. Linda Ronstadt is a great American, and one of the greatest singers ever.

One of my earliest memories of music, was Different drum. I was maybe 3 or 4 years old , it was the late 70s. I was walking with my mom to the shops on a late afternoon and for the some reason this faded memory of mine puts that song to it. For many years i wondered who sang that song, it wasn't until i heard it been played in the background of a movie in 2012 that i was able to search it and found who sang that beautiful song i heard as a child that stuck with me all these years. I never would have guessed it was Linda Ronstadt and i never thought i'd ever hear it again. Such a lovely melodic tune, i am happy it came back to me again. Congratulations to you Linda, you deserve this, thank you for the music you gave us.

@@elieengoslin3623 When she said this I just took it in. That brain is a powerhouse, which made her an amazing artist and why we as fans of hers love her so. I hope other up and coming musicians listen to her knowledge. I work with seniors and I always ask them, " if they like music and if so who or what type." This will be one of the artist, #LindaRonstadt and her song, "Don't know much" and other soothing music I will have on my playlist for those who are not vocal.

This Lady is one of my Musical Idols & also one that I’m told when I’m singing along to, people can’t tell if it’s me or Linda. Which is the ultimate of compliments to me. I adore her appearance on The Muppet Show & that one song she sings w/Kermit...I always get choked up when watching it, as it’s just Linda at her very best. I actually sang one of Linda’s songs from the album I Don’t Know Much comes from at a Summer Camp Talent Show once many moons ago & hearing Aaron Neville & Trisha Yearwood sing it tonight brought those memories back.
I’m also Legally Blind, so completely understood what Linda meant about “Is it Aaron? Then I heard *that* voice...”. That man has one of those special voices that you instantly know who is singing the instant he opens his mouth. He truly is a Gift from Heaven & aren’t we the lucky ones to have him down here? I’m also a huge, huge Trisha Yearwood fan & her & Aaron sounded *so* good doing Don’t Know Much together. Love how Linda when talking about Trisha focuses right away on her being an awesome cook. 😄 An amazing singer as well, but also an awesome cook.
I’ve actually tried some of her recipes from her show & they’ve always turned out & gotten raves. They really are just simple, good Home Cooking. Nothing really fancy. Just good food.
Speaking of...I hope Linda enjoyed her Dinner w/her dear Friends Kevin, Aaron, Trisha and Emmylou. That to me was the best part of the night!! When Linda saw Emmylou...😂😂😂
That’s so interesting to me the advice she’d give to herself at the beginning of her Career. It makes sense too. So many vocalists know in their hearts what they want w/their music, but those who aren’t able to play an instrument, do have a harder time getting what they hear in their hearts out. If that makes sense. I hope it does.
I was so thrilled when I heard Linda was a part of this year’s Class of the Kennedy Centre Honours. So well deserved to a very Great Lady!! 😊

Not sure about that. It was a short interview. Linda did most of the talking and along with the usual 'lovey' stuff that you would expect on an occasion of this kind we are gifted a gem of advice (for aspirant young singers to master a musical instrument), and its given the poignance it deserves. Also Linda seems to be relaxed and enjoying the moment, when we know she tends to shy away from the public eye because of her disability these days (and dislike of flying). I know she is always the consummate professional but it seemed genuine to me, so if the mission was as much to make Linda Ronstadt feel at ease then Paula Reid (I'm afraid I don't know who she is) did her job. There's a limit to what can be done in three and a half minutes.

    • @windsong1a
      @windsong1a 4 роки тому +5

Yes..... a little awkward to have a young person who may not have even been born when Linda was in her prime. Of course that's not HER fault. She did a good job overall. She seem to show Linda a lot of respect.
