I miss Portnoy in DT but seeing this, I have no doubt he did the right choice. What a fabulous band! It's vintage and modern at the same time, with beautiful melodies, impressive progessive parts, some funny jam, great voices harmony, they play with passion and joy... I love everything in this video!
He ventured out plenty while in DT, but each one had to come to an end when the time came to go back to work with DT. Now that he is free to commit full time to all these other groups, every one of them, especially Neal Morse Band, is masterpiece after masterpiece.
I think Portnoy was always, even before he left DT, a man of the music, not of a band or a few specific music acts. The dude has or is part of projects ranging from classic and pop rock to progressive and fusion acts, he's just a genius that can't stay doing the same sound forever.
Absolutely agree Much as I love DT, I also regret to say that their music interests me less and less, especially after The Astonishing, which I found pretty boring, to be honest. As for their latest live recording in London, I've only listened to it once, literally, and I have no intention of going back to it for a loooong time: sorry but it tells me nothing. I don't know exactly how things have changed in that band composition-wise, because there is no question about their musicianship, but now their music sounds to me kind of mechanical and cold. By comparison, if I listen to John Petrucci's latest release, or the same with Liquid Tension Experiment 3, everything sounds as refreshing and engaging as ever. And the common factor in all these cases is Mr Mike Portnoy, of course. Though I had already listened to some Transatlantic stuff, just great, naturally, I had not paid attention to the Neal Morse Band, which means that I have been missing some really wonderful stuff and that I will have to put a remedy to that real quick. Definitely in my top list of prog rock, prog metal or whatever we want to call it.
The greatest live performance ive ever heard and seen. About Mike Portnoy or Neil Morse i will not speak, but what Eric Gillette is playing on guitar and vocals and keys and drums is awesome 🎸👍😁🤣
Joe Palcsak they're both amazing singers. Bill's solo towards the end is just perfect. Not to mention how great they are at their respective instruments!
This is one crazy band! Every single member is a multi-instrumentalist! That middle jamming part where they all exchange instruments is phenomenal! They could easily play any instrument in any band! And I didn't even comment what a great epic song is Alive Again...
Eric Gillette has two solo albums out here he plays all the instruments. Awesome stuff. He should get a lot of notice in the guitar community very soon.
100% agree. anyone who likes rock music would fucking wet their pants listening to this. such a shame prog is so niche. these muisicans are absoutely the best in the world.
After throwing down a performance for the ages, Neal turns the applause back to the audience. "We knew you were going to be Great - and YOU WERE!!" I LOVE IT.
Whole song is absolutely a masterpiece, but when Bill’s vocals kick in after the instrumental section, I’m always on the verge of tears. Absolutely beautiful beyond comparison
This is amazing on so many levels...melody,song writing, musicianship, groove, instrumentation, arrangement, vocal harmonies, individual instrument virtuosity, feel etc etc It's totally awesome!!!
The ending to this sends shivers up my spine like no other song or band ever has. What an incredible build (like you said, on so many levels), crescendo and musicianship. Wow!
Check out Vandan Plas, the Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, and of course King Crimson, Yes, and Genesis if you haven't already and also Pain of Salvation, Ayreon, Symphony X and pretty much any band Mike Portnoy was/is iN
Amazing! I love how most of the audience is living in the moment and enjoying this band in all its glory and NOT holding their phones high in the air. That's how concerts should be!
Christianity and Prog! Two of my favorite things finally together! I'll add something to the discussion: Listen to the background harmonies at 28:00. Flawless. Kind of reminds me of "Afterglow."
even with your eyes closed and just listening you can hear Mike's drum style. Just happy to see him in this fabulous band. And that said from a big DT fan...
The chemistry between these musicians is incredible! The perfect blend of talent, personality, and abilities make this the PERFECT band, my favorite band. I'm addicted!
I've listened the studio version and I enjoyed it but this live performance was epic, astonishing. Thanks Neal Morse Band for your creativity and for being so gifted to play so beautiful and complex masterpiece.
You are my friend's favorite band! Decided to listen. The more I listen, the more a fall in love your music and your performance...and I also like that you are happy like children. You jump, laugh, rejoice at what you are doing well!
I used to be a dream theater fan until I saw the Neal Morse Band at the House of Bluse in Chicago. I traveled fro San Jose to see it! it was magical. I sat second row and forgot to turn on my android camera. I really wish I had a dvd of that show. I bought the 2 cd/dvd combo and was floored. Freaking awesome is all I can say.
Una banda enorme. Una sweet absolutamente épica, trasendental, absoluta. Gloria a Dios por la música de Neal Morse y sus grandes músicos. Abrazos desde Argentina y que Dios los bendiga.
the grand Experiment is the first album of Neal Morse i recently discovered and this is so huge, it just blows me away! What a present ! Beside the new KANSAS album "prelude implicit" my current favourite!
Recipe: Put Yes, Genesis, Rush, Dream Theater, Kansas, Gentle Giant, Boston, Edgar Winter, Styx, Steve Vai/Satch, Zep, Queen, ELP Moody Blues and a sprinkling of Return to Forever in a blender, and, ta-da! Neal Morse Band. Sit back, relax, enjoy the ride!
First time I have watched all this through...and WOW.... just amazing! does it get any better? Well I saw them on the TSOAD tour, and yes it does get better!!! what's next??
Well that was amazing. I grew up with Neal up in Granada Hills. California. I’ve been playing all musical instruments for 50 plus years. And I still suck🤓
underated epic from this guys... of course the last two albums were more than amazing, but this song is amazing and basicly in the root for what came later on...
I love Neal morse. he is fantastic BUT Steven Wilson is the king of prog. but neal is definitely up there with the best of them. I love the fact he can play multiple instruments. he is extremely talented. I also think his brother allen and nick dv is up there too. spocks beard is a great band to check out if you like this.
I love the bit where the keyboardist takes lead vocals. I just wish the song was split into sections, at 26minutes (album version), it's too much for me to digest.
this grand experiment album is my fav one of neals in a while. when he left spocks, it's very clear to me that he was such a driving force, because he went on to write all this epic music. spocks has some good stuff since neals departure, but they mostly fell flat for me and didn't write anything nearly as epic as this.

bill Hubaeur and Eric Gillette round this band out so perfectly. This is the best prog rock yet. Praise the Lord!
Joe Palcsak they're both amazing singers. Bill's solo towards the end is just perfect. Not to mention how great they are at their respective instruments!
Joe Palcsak Gillette, the best a man can get!
Both are great additions
morse deserves the respect and success he creates with out a doubt the best progressive rock ive ever heard
This is one crazy band! Every single member is a multi-instrumentalist! That middle jamming part where they all exchange instruments is phenomenal! They could easily play any instrument in any band!

Eric Gillette has two solo albums out here he plays all the instruments. Awesome stuff. He should get a lot of notice in the guitar community very soon.
He played all the instruments in the first one "Afterthought", in the second one "The Great Unknown" he focused just on guitars
I saw them play this live on the sail away on Cruise To The Edge. They blew everyone away.
That section after the crazy instrumental break, where Bill sings and Neal plays acoustic, brings me to tears every single time.
Neal has this talent of finding the right people for his projects.
U2, Coldplay, Muse ain't got nothin on this band. This band should be playing in stadiums and arenas world wide!
Amen!!!
Pop will always be popular, while gems like this remains hidden and is better that way. Lucky for you and me to find and loving music like this
100% agree. anyone who likes rock music would fucking wet their pants listening to this. such a shame prog is so niche. these muisicans are absoutely the best in the world.
Welcome to my playlist Neal Morse Band.
I understood that reference
After throwing down a performance for the ages, Neal turns the applause back to the audience.
"We knew you were going to be Great - and YOU WERE!!"
I LOVE IT.
Whole song is absolutely a masterpiece, but when Bill’s vocals kick in after the instrumental section, I’m always on the verge of tears. Absolutely beautiful beyond comparison
Wow!!!!!!!!!! Wonderful, thank you for share. Loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee 😍

im so happy i found this band.. i've been a fan of DT.
This blows DT away IMHO :)
Are you kidding me? It sounds greatly influenced by DT.
Rick Jansen
juaneer ?? Portnoy was in DT for 25 years !!

Yes, I agree . I saw him with John Petrucci and Dream Theater in 2009. Everything that Mike puts his hand to bears his imprint !
but you can always fly away ;)
Between 3:35 and 5:12 - One of the most progressive grooves I've ever listened to, thanks to Mr. Portnoy, of course.
That's not music. That's MUSIC! They're not musicians. They're ARTISTS! 12/04/2019 Trezzo sull'Adda (MI) Italy. I'll be there!!!!!!!
excellent musicianships.thumbs up!
Ive been lucky enough to meet these guys a few times and watch them, it doesn't get any better than this
The chemistry between these musicians is incredible!

This is as good as music gets.
You are my friend's favorite band! Decided to listen. The more I listen, the more a fall in love your music and your performance...and I also like that you are happy like children. You jump, laugh, rejoice at what you are doing well!

mark kentgen I need to feel it too. Please pay my ticket to the USA so that I can witness NMB and various other American bands.
THANK GOD SOMEONE IS DOING THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When you reach the end of an epic concert and you want to send the audience off right, the last 3 minutes is a great way to do that.
Saw them in Montreal last Tuesday. Unbelievable performance. You guys rocked the house can't wait to see you again!
is this a reference to the whirlwind... :D
OMG this is so great
Una banda enorme. Una sweet absolutamente épica, trasendental, absoluta. Gloria a Dios por la música de Neal Morse y sus grandes músicos. Abrazos desde Argentina y que Dios los bendiga.
This takes me back a few years. It's been a nice journey since I started to listen to Morse a couple of decades back.
This band is ridiculously amazing!
What an amazing bunch of great musicians ,Neal is a genius at arranging a song to be so powerful.

My favorite neal morse track
Wow this really comes back to alive again 💪
Thanks for this inspiration :-) greetings Jack Elmshouse
Neal Morse looks a little bit like Ash Bruce Campell from Evil Dead, just without a Chainsaw
Musicisti eccellenti!!! Grande band e grande musica, viva il prog!!!
The keyboardist surprised me there around ~27,5 min with his strong singing, nice vibrato.
6:05 what a voice.
Eric Gillette's voice is wonderful!
what a gift!
Magnifique!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for this video, man!! :D
excellence at its best. ...
Seeing them Jan 17th, wouldn't mind this as an encore
3:35 I wish they had a camera showing what Mike is doing because that part is insane!
Looks like Neal is trying to figure it out as well! LOL

A masterpiece. Enough said. So glad portnoy left DT
Eric's best Stratlike tone. Excellent vocal on his part too.
I love the bit where the keyboardist takes lead vocals. I just wish the song was split into sections, at 26minutes (album version), it's too much for me to digest.
Brilliant.
