What are your thoughts on rockwool safe n sound in general? I wish I knew about the Knauf before I just started my project out of rockwool at the 16" width. Air quality is definitely a concern of mine since I'll be living with these things in my room so many hours out of the day, but my research suggests rockwool is okay as long as your fabric "contains the fibers"
Yes, you will be fine with the rockwool with it contained in fabric. I am not sure about the frequency response of rockwool. That would be interesting to look up. Thanks for watching.
Hi, I just bought R-15 EcoBatt Kraft Faced fiberglass insulation Batt 3-1/2 x 15" by 93". I'm going to be making 24in by 48in panels if I take the paper backing off will this be ok to use? I'm using Duck Canvas Fabric well that hold the fibers in? I got this at Menards i actually ordered Jonhs Manville temp control R15 Mineral wool 15.25 by 47" but they gave me the wrong 1. The Manville was $34 and the EcoBatt was $48 so I saved $14 and its almost 68sq ft compared to the Jonhs Manville witch is about 35 sq ft. Just want to know if this will be ok to use and will it work good. If you could get back to me I'd appreciate it alot.. p.s great video 👍
Hey I’m not sure about the EcoBatt. I recommend Corning 703 or Knauf fiberglass. The fabric should allow air through. If it does then that will work. Best of luck!
Hey Manuel! Thanks for watching. Yes the therma fiber should also work well. Check these specs just to double check agains the other options - dcpd6wotaa0mb.cloudfront.net/mdms/dms/EIS/10021762/10021762-Thermafiber-Fire-and-Sound-Guard-Commercial-Data-Sheet.pdf?v=1630246163000
It really depends on the absorption coefficients at each frequency. Compare the foams data (if there is any) to something like Corning 703. The key is to have good absorption across the frequency spectrum.
@@soundproofyourstudio I don't think they will have that level of detail sadly. Incidentally, I can't find that same Ecose insulation as theyre website says they've removed the trademark earthwool from their product. I'm in UK so using the UK websites.
@@slippyg oh bummer. Yes in the US it looks like you can buy the earthworks one. I am noticing so many people having trouble sourcing materials in Europe. Would this work - www.knaufinsulation.co.uk/why-knauf-insulation/ecose-technology
Great video! Do you feel the 4” thickness protrudes off the wall too much? I would point out that if comparing results to a more conservative 2” thick panel, ATS performs better than Owens and knauff and with a more even curve for its NRC rating and you can buy it per assembled.
hey @davidescobar it looks like they all perform well enough for acoustic purposes. I like this chart here to see them all side by side www.atsacoustics.com/page--Selecting-the-Right-Acoustic-Material--ac.html. I might make another video since I had not heard of ATS. Notice that 4" of Corning 703 has the best bass response hands down. That would be ideal, but the eco friendly solutions are nice too. Really you can't go wrong.
@@soundproofyourstudio ive been looking at datasheets today, and was surprised that the Thermalfiber 8# Versaboard” mineral wool product blows away 703 at 125 hz (and presumably below), around 1.0 vs .51, and at much lower cost.

Have you looked into Havlock sheep’s wool? Or Ultratouch recycled blue Jean cotton?
No but sounds interesting

The Rockwool numbers based on 3" thickness so at 4" these numbers would be slightly higher.
125 Hz = .52
250 Hz = .96
500 Hz = 1.18
1000 Hz = 1.07
2000 Hz = 1.05
4000 Hz = 1.05
NRC 1.05
Yup knauf is great. I have a friend who uses cotton.

"Knauf is more in lines with my values" 😂
better get those insulation ethics and values figured out :)
it's only relative. and, 0.15 difference is irrelevent, not significant, i.e., the same.
Thanks for your insight
What do u think about Owens Corning thermafiber fire and sound guard?

plus the Knauf is a flatter Frequency response.. smooooooth

@@soundproofyourstudio Thanks for the link! And yeah I hadn’t thought of that, 4” would be better if trying to control lower frequencies
@@soundproofyourstudio The 4" OC703 in this linked chart shows .81 at 125hz, much closer to the Knauf. Why would this be?
@@Sunporchmedia so the Knauf and the OC703 are pretty interchangeable. They are very similar in their overall frequency absorption coefficients.

That was super helpful
Glad it helped
Knauf mw-35 is good ??
I would use the ridgid boards like l linked to in the description.
