After doing my research on that river and then going there i found that practically every foot of it is such prime real estate that the fish basically only live in the rich neighborhoods, which can be hard to even make out. I also never saw so many whitefish as i did there. Being willing to change flies is huge. Switching to a streamer got me a 19 in bow. You have to hunt the Henry's fork. You are competing against the same prolific ecosystem that produces the quality of fish you came for, with every bit the challenge of a difficult spring creek. So for anybody who makes the trip out there, be persistent, hunt the water one little chunk at a time, change flies if its not working in 10 casts, flip a rock or grab weeds to see what bugs you got. A lot of people worry about how well they cast as being their skill level, nope, the fisherman with novice casting experience who employs the concepts above will outfish a pro who doesn't change spots, change flies, look for what's in the river, or hunt the water in a grid or sequential pattern.

@@RemoteFlyFishing special place, yes, but more so, special videographer. I subscribed for your unique channel. If I wanted to watch meat hunters’ vids of their giant trout caught every five minutes I could do that😅appreciate your vibe. It comes through.

@@janeberryman3581 As my daughter said when she read your comment, “You get it”. It’s as much about the journey as it is the fishing. I really enjoy exploring new places and sharing the experience with others. It’s like I’m not alone. This coming June my daughter will join me. It will be fun to experience everything once again, but this time through her eyes.

@@RemoteFlyFishing too bad too, there are some absolute monsters there

@@xanderthegrand There are. I have video of a seagull and a large trout both going for a piece of bread a kid threw in the water. The seagull backed off quickly when it saw the trout rise. I think its the first time I've ever seen a seagull hesitate when food was the target. I should post it as a short vid.

I was just there. Difficult to catch those small ones. Had to go down to a 5-6x line with a super small olive caddis. Better luck below down by Mack's but a lot more people too.

It is a tough place. I was there this past June, fishing several areas below the dam. It was really cold - plus very low flows out of the dam holding back water as the Snake, Fall and Teton rivers were swollen to the max further south. The Warm river however was fishing great and I later learned had been recently stocked, which might explain why I was catching all these rainbows. I posted the video this past summer as part of our being evacuated from Yellowstone series.

Nice video! Been there in Aug 2018. Was way too hot to be any good fishing but enjoyed being at the HF for the first time.
Heard you mention about the Classic fly rod forum in the other video?

Thank you! Yes, I am a member of the Classic Fly Rod Forum. I ran into a number of fellow members when I was fishing in Montana and Idaho. I have a few bamboo rods, which I enjoy fishing. And becuase of the softer tips I used to say a fish never broke me off -- that is until fishing the Madison -- or maybe I just need to fish with stronger tippets!

you have very nice gear, and can cast very well but your tactics are very poor.I have fished that area alot.Interesting good video and good luck

Not sure I agree with you on the casting. Wide angle lens on a GoPro makes a cast look further than it actually looks. Tactics? Would have been nice if you had been a little more specific. I don't mind criticism, call it a learning experience. That said, I came to this river to fish dry flies and not streamers or nymphs, or even droppers - no swinging and raising emergers. I show and use these tactics on other rivers in my videos - for example - fishing the Firehole a few days earlier. As you well know, the river is famous for its mayfly hatches and fishing dry flies. Had I started nymphing I might have been hung - at least on this section of the river. The goal is to work and fish for a specific trout. Some friends cast immediately a few feet above a trout that just rose, others like you suggested prefer to only fish downstream. The trout however are not so predictable. Like is a pond or lake, they move around and to my experience and frustration never rise in the same place a second time. So you try to time them, which I probably don’t show in the video as while it is fun to take on the challenge, it makes for too long and boring a video. Believe me, had I caught one of these monsters at the end of waiting fifteen minutes and casting to where I suspected it would rise I would have posted all fifteen minutes along with explaining the tactics. Oh, and because the place is so challenging - I did return this past spring on opening day and caught my first rainbow fishing the ranch, euro-nymphing at the i20 bridge. And I almost hooked up with another swinging a caddis emerger above the millionaire pool using a technique Yvon Chouinard shared with me earlier that day. This video is in editing and will be posted when I can find the time.
