I feel your pain Greg, but I've also been there. In 1991 I owned 5 bikes, some of which were then valuable classics and others which are now valuable classics, and I sold them all to raise money to start a new business venture. Absolutely no regrets. My philosophy: Enjoy the moment, don't cling to the past and be free to move on to the next life adventure! Nothing will take away the great adventures you had with the PR7 and thanks to UA-cam, we will all remember them!
Non-bikers will say «it’s just a bike, don’t be so emotional», but us riders understand why this is hard. I hope the money-needing situation is not something serious. All the best Greg!
I must add this is the best looking PR7 around and the factory guys really should learn from you or hire you as a consultant! About the sale: we changed comments about the PR7 before, but you have to make (sometimes tough) choices in life, so, thank you for the videos with it and I'll be waiting for other adventures and videos. Cheers!
Thanks Greg. New to your channel and appreciate your content. I'm just considering a PR7 here in the States and it is almost impossible to see one much less sit on one so your story on the PR7 and perspectives are invaluable. I can also appreciate your delima with selling this bike. I've been getting a KTM 990 dirty since 09. While I could barely touch my toes to the ground, It was my 1st "dirt bike" and is still my goto big off-road bike. She has gotten me through some real @#$%^ and the thought of letting her go kills me. (noting like a little irrational emotional attachment to keep your garage overcrowded) However, much like you, there are some practical reasons I need to clear some space in the garage and the BetyG (Big Dumb Grin) will need to go if I want a PR7. Thanks for sharing your story and looking forward to digging into your content. Cheers from the mountains, deserts, and canyons of Utah. If you have not, you should visit one day and we'll show you some spectacular riding.
I tend to change or buy bikes regularly, I’ve just sold my PR7 also.., but New one arriving Jan 2022👍 You have been a great ambassador for the brand.., Ps. I’m sure you will have a hoot on the wee Himi if you go that route…👍🏴🏍
Hopefully the bike will do what it is intended for, unfortunately not with you. That's a tough decision, but likely the right one I am sure. Trudging thru life these days is never easy, thanks for the video's and I hope things turn around and you are back on the trail again soon.
The Legos really helped clarify the situation. All the best with the new project! We look forward to future content, even if it's not of our beloved AJP PR7.
I feel your pain Greg, twice i have gotten rid of a bike for various reasons (one was a honeymoon lol the other even more personal) but i got back on two wheels with my 701 which unless something else comes up is a keeper. All the best
Well, that was unexpected 😳 I feel your pain, mate... I am glad you will have other bikes to ride and produce videos, as I enjoy your work with it a lot! Take care and look at the bright side - it might mean a new great bike in the future 😊
Wish you all the best of luck with the project. And, like i told you, somehow i rly do think another PR7 will cross your life another day :) Its sad to see her going, but, if its need, its need. Cheers
Good luck with your new venture Greg, I will say I dont think Ive ever come across another bike and thought 'thats so and so's bike', your PR7 is definatly 'Gregs bike' looking forward to what comes next from you.
Greg! I found you and your channel and the TET because of the PR7!!! Loved what you've done with it and the videos you've made and was shocked when I saw this video, but if your intuition says this is the right thing then trust it and you'll not go far wrong 👍
Too bad, Greg. Live is about choices. Another great bike will come for us to drool about watching you epic films after your new project has become what you want.
I'm sad to hear this, with or without pr7 the content you do is of quality, here you have a follower, let's see what happens in the future. Good luck and wish you the best!
Noooooo. I love that bike. I can't buy one here in Chile. Your videos are the only fresh source of info I had from her. So sorry to know you have to sell her.
Well, wow Greg - brave decision, but a worthy one I'm sure. Have been there and done that as well, and along with everyone else wish you the best for whatever the new project is. (p.s. Just please don't stop making videos! ;) Will, Switzerland
Just done the exact same thing for the same reasons a couple of days ago with my 2020 ktm 690 enduro r.. Awesome bike and would have another in a heartbeat!
I love that bike, i’m from spain and i want to ask you. Do you think that the ajp pr7 can be a unique bike, a bike for every day? To go to work and every week do 100 or 150 km off road tracks? Thanks for your time.
Fair play Greg I’m sure it was a decision not taken lightly. I listened recently to one of the earlier TAM podcasts where you gave a brief history of yourself where you told you have taken chances or choices which have led you to where you are now, not sure if this is one of them pivotal moments in your life but I wish you luck and success. I know you’ll always keep making these videos and films to entertain us
I will miss the PR7... I think you were the best advocate for the bike (in an English speaking community) and it would be smart of AJP to keep you as one! Having said that, I am looking forward to the Himalayan series! ....AND it would be fantastic to see you focus on simple adventure bikes that do not break the bank, but still offer a solid adventure potential! Maybe a Chinese-Italian series? :) The Chinese funded bikes are now what the Japanese bikes were when they started flooding Europe and US.
I hated to "like" this video. Sorry to hear you have to sell, but I get it. Life is all about choices, or decisions, some are hard and some just suck. I just subscribed about the time you got the PR7, it was one of the bikes I was looking at. Glad to hear you thought it was a good bike. I ended up on a SWM RS500R, as I have a soft spot for older Husky bikes. Looking forward to seeing more from you!
@@GregVillalobos A 300L Rally or T7 would probably help you reach more viewers but I - for one - definitely appreciated your PR7 content. It's unfortunate how overlooked this bike is and AJP deserves more credit for building an out of the box TET / TAT solution that the big OEMs apparently just can't be bothered to produce, with the exception of the Husky 701 LR perhaps. I wish SWM would buy AJP and throw some proper funding behind the brand to help expand their distribution and marketing. For 2022, I'm excited about the GPX 450 Rally / Colove. GPX has done a great job here in the States with systematically improving the quality of their dirt bikes and dual sports based on customer feedback. The reported specs of the 450 Rally seem to be very close to what the ADV community has been asking for for years. Not sure if you guys will see this bike in the UK and EU but if this sells for under $10K and comes 50 State street legal, I'd buy it over the 300L or a PR7 which are can't get plated in CA. Happy New Year!
Hi - thanks for the message. My day job at Adventure Spec and young family are taking up all my attention right now. I've been prioritising who gets my limited time.
@@GregVillalobos hi! Thanks for the quick reply! I'm on my way to getting a 2024 pr7, years after watching your videos. I've bought quite a few clothes from adventure specs also and have been hitting some trails on various occasions! Thanks for all the inspiration from this channel, and all the best on your (not so new but still recent) path! Hope to cross paths at some point on a bike ;) keep it up!
I feel you man, had to let go of my crf250 rally due to a new house and having two little kids that take up most of the time. Even though it's for legit reasons, i had a heavy heart as soon as the new owner rode of on it. 😉
Sorry Bud, like loosing a dog. I went thru the same thing when I sold my '89 TransAlp, my first adv bike. I'd buy yours in a second if you were selling it in the states. Hope your money issues work out and you end up with more to spare. There are more PR7's in the sea than one.
Hi Greg, I’ve really gotten fascinated by this bike of late and thus watched many of your vids so a little sad to see you sold the PR7. Obviously, it seems like a unicorn bike until (with the respect to long distance/RTW travels) you get to the service intervals and specifically the valve clearance checks. What’s your opinion on that, could it be that after the first checks, i.e., 1000, 5000 & 10000km, of keeping a well-trained eye on it you could begin to stretch the valve checks to every 8-10000km? Further, what do you think about the potential for doing it yourself on the road? How much could go wrong? I imagine, speaking as someone enthusiastically trying to improve my mechanicing skills (but also as someone who maybe doesn’t know what they’re talking about), you’d require a full set of all possible shim sizes and the gap-measuring tools (and it may also require a torque wrench although maybe not) - anything else? Are they carryable? Also, any thoughts on why such a well thought-out bike seems to fall short on this point - maybe the engine was so perfectly suited it was a necessary compromise? Cheers, Clive
I'd drop Heather Sinclaire a message. She has many tens of thousands of KM on her PR7 now and has dealt with some of the issues you mention - instagram.com/improbablyadventuring/
I’ve always loved this bike even though I still haven’t seen it in person. 😂 They’re hard to get ahold of in the US. I tried to order one in 2019ish & The distributor told me he didn’t know when they would even get their hands on another one. This was around Covid, so I ended up purchasing the 790R.
