  • If you want to try Jordan's daily routine for yourself (or just check it out in one easy-to-read document), it's available for free here: benstevenson.gumroad.com/l/jo...
Here’s Jordan Peterson’s (intense) daily routine to become more productive, more intelligent, beat anxiety, and lose weight. You’ll also find the best of Jordan's advice sprinkled throughout the video via clips of him speaking.
I’ll walk through EVERY part of Jordan Peterson’s daily routine and show you which were most helpful to me and why. I’ll also give a completely honest breakdown of how it went and what lessons I learned from the week.
Jordan B. Peterson is a well-known podcaster, author, and professor. he’s appeared on podcasts like the Joe Rogan Experience, The Tim Ferris Show, Chris Williamson (Modern Wisdom), Theo Von, and many, many more. He also has his own podcast, the Jordan B. Peterson Show.
He’s helped many people, especially young men, find meaning, motivation, and purpose in their lives through struggle and hard work. He regularly speaks on the value of cleaning your room, making a schedule, becoming tougher, learning from the bible, and standing up for yourself.
    Jordan's Books:
12 Rules For Life: An Antidote to Chaos - amzn.to/43p35Od

Actually I have also watched another video discussing a separate topic (about psychological manipulation tactics employed by predators/sociopaths) and someone also said to practice writing in order to build that mental fortitude/resilience or sharpness. So writing for 30 minutes every day and Peterson himself advocates this but write what exactly? Short stories, fanfiction, novels, research papers, review articles, journaling, essays, short essays. Which one?

"Clean your room" sounds so banal, but it's actually incredibly powerful and transformative once you embrace the whole mindset behind that statement.
I struggled a lot with life's bigger problems, until I realized that it was actually my neglect of small everyday things that was holding me back. Making my bed every morning and seeing to it that my house is in order (in a literal sense) has helped me stave off the chaos in my mind and given me the energy and focus to tackle the bigger issues!

It's very rare that a hyper-successful individual shares the secrets to his/her success. I mean, most of the ones who are being asked will just answer "work hard" or something like that. Jordan actually breaks down what he needed to do to get where he is now and that is so valuable.

Most of these you have no control over and are the main driving force behind everything you do.

For people looking for tips, the key is to make blocks and follow the blocks based on your situation. Take a small break after each block. Once you start scheduling you're going to mess up a ton. Don't stop trying every single day to do it as close as you can. Also, eating a breakfast of protein/fat, waking up at the same time 7 days a week, exercising and meditation are very helpful and end up making the blocks even easier.
Don't be discouraged when you mess it up. It's very, very, very hard especially when the blocks are not externally monitored (like school, a job, etc.). I run a small business on my own and so there's no one who is checking in on my progress or status. This has been far more challenging than college classes, college sports or anything else I've done. You can't improve much day over day but over six months you can really make a huge change.

@JagdisH乛FTL I run a financial services business, specifically a mortgage brokerage. I currently gross a little over $15k per month at the moment but hoping to have that closer to $30k by end of year. I was not even remotely capable of doing this a few years ago. It is all about developing personal discipline. A lot of people cheat and use something like adderall to gain instant discipline, I did this in college, but it does not solve the actual problem and creates a list of problems on its own. I regret my usage of adderall and wish I had been of this mindset during my freshman year of college but alas I did not have the awareness I do now and the liberal arts school I attended completely and utterly failed to give me the tools and guidance I needed
There is nothing more critical than developing personal discipline, character, virtue and responsibility. I don't care what field you are in; these are critical components to leading a successful life.

    • @joenichols3901
      @joenichols3901 Рік тому

@JagdisH乛FTL hey, thats fine man. All you can do is improve now. You'll get it done eventually if you stick with it - but its going to take years. However, each time you develop some new discipline or skill, it is as if you just defeated an enemy and now must destroy an even larger enemy. Viewed in these terms, you must be the hero, who was a deeply flawed individual, who is on the path of redemption destroying all demons in your path - the hero is a hero because of their commitment to virtue, discipline and character despite the odds.

So I cannot wrap my mind around it why we allow children to just cross out answers on test and fill in blanks instead of have them writing. As I got older, I discovered that essay tests became my favorite, because I could show the teacher what I was thinking and why, and not just depending on a lucky guess at "C" to be correct. Interesting. I'm not that much of a goal oriented person, but for two weeks I was programming my application like this:
    -few minutes light exercise
    -work until I get hungry
    -breakfast
    repeat:
    (-work until I feel stuck
-walk outside/lay on the bed/eat/talk to someone)
-2 LoL matches with my friends
-boring work until I get sleepy
Pure work was 10-14 hours. It's not bad if I can keep my motivation. We're different people, so the same daily routine can't work for all of us. But maybe I can use some of these tricks you mentioned.
Honestly, I have always been the opposite of this... procrastinating until I'm out of time.

@@Deelitee Here is my view, first of all your day will usually never be 100% your schedule because there needs to be a balance between order and chaos unless you implement some chaos to your schedule so there is a balance, lets put it this way: You should make a schedule which you can fully carry out. Jordan talked about this. He said that you can't be a tyrant and a slave of yourself but rather negotiate with yourself. To implememt this on your question: You should sometimes perfectly make your bed and not perfectly follow your schedule and vice versa. You can't do everything that you do 100% perfectly *and* do everything that can fit in a day it's neither pleasant nor doable, you should negotiate with yourself, find a balance and as he says a lot Do whats most important. On the final note: If you can't finish your meal because you scheduled showering sooner than you can manage, eat fully and shower a little quicker, but if you are going to be late to your date because you spent half an hour making your bed perfectly you arent on the right tracks either. Give everything you do a 100%, you need to focus on the task at hand and negotiate with yourself if this task or the next on on your schedule is more important and make a compromise.

Working 14 hours of day means you don't leave yourself time to handle cooking, cleaning, and so on so I like how you changed the language of work to mean "productive" and "meaningful." It's not like you have a wife to support you in other matters, you know? I also think that there is a difference between work that has deadlines and work that can ebb and flow on your time, like school and work full-time simultaneously for instance, which is hazardous.

Goals will help. You work out the path to them yourself most of the time, and they provide some sort of progress value when they're set in checkpoints
"Work out this many times during the week", and you'll find your own time slots to make that possible
"Study before X occurs". When you set the quantitative values of what you have to study, you can divide it amongst the upcoming days
"Work this many words/hours into your narrative piece" personalised because of my hobby in writing, but it helps me set time in the afternoon to be productive
It takes two weeks to build a habit, so also aim for that. And don't wake up late during this, nothing makes you feel more defeated to be productive when you're out of bed at 3pm

I saw a video where Jordan Peterson said something like 'After 2 years the person who works 70 hours a day is so far ahead of the person working 30 hours a day that they can never catch up'. Which is both intimidating and inspiring at the same time (which I think is actually the intended message). What I like about Jordan Peterson is that he made getting smarter and improving yourself seem cool. I think my mindset before was to do just enough self improvement to get to the next stage of my life and then enjoy the leisure. But really the process of self improvement can be so exciting if you're not just treating it as the necessary sacrifice for leisure.

I almost never post/comment, and I may not be very coherent, but let me get this straight... If you work for 14 hours/day ( no weekends ) and sleep for a minimum of 7 hours ( to be well rested enough ), that leaves 3 hours for spending time with family/friends, working out, reading, pursuing other interests, running errands, doing the shopping, having appointments ( doctors', car mechanic, etc ), not to mention the daily basic stuff like taking a shower, eating, cooking, etc. It seems seriously out of balance and unrealistic to me. Maybe some of the stuff has to be considered as part of the 14 hours of work in order for this to make sense, but for a normal human being, I doubt it's sustainable, and there is more to life than work ( which for most people takes the form of a day job ). While there are many healthy and good things to take away from this routine and these principles, I still think it's gloryfing an unhealthy/unbalanced lifestyle under the mirrage of being "productive". I am not saying that you shouldn't work hard...but I think being more efficient with your time is better than just doing more. 8 hrs / day is more than enough under normal circumstances, in order to leave you with enough time to invest in all other aspects of your life, which are equally important ( if not more so ). I am a bit tired of all these unrealistic theories that create that pressure to work all the time, and if you do otherwise, you are perceived as being "lazy" or "unproductive". Is this what life should be? Working for more than 80% of your waking hours? prioritizing this over all else, like family, children, faith, health, etc ? I appreciate many of Dr. Peterson's ideas, and I think in many ways he's brilliant, but as with any public figure, influencer, intellectual, etc we should always try and be objective and analyse and think for ourselves before blindingly following anyone's ideas just because we admire that person. Anyway...rant over.

    • @Kyrieru
      @Kyrieru Рік тому +3

Well, a few things: It depends what your work is. Working at a desk job is not the same as doing something creative, or something with varied productive tasks. For example, as part of my work I have to draw, animate, make music, and program, all of which include varied activities that are also hobbies. For JP, reading books is likely a part of his work, as is going to various events. Also, just because something is your daily routine, that doesn't mean that it's what you do every single day. You can set aside days to do other activities, like playing sports, or going to leisure events, or spending time with family (which in the right context are all productive). The goal of routine is to have a status quo that you can diverge from in reasonable ways, rather than being directionless or chaotic, which is how a lot of people get addicted to short term satisfaction, or spend all day watching TV, UA-cam, etc.

I can agree with your rant. I would add few things: working this much isn't healthy from a mental health standpoint - burnout is a real thing, and people shouldn't underestimate the creeping tiredness that can lead to a total mental and physical collapse, or in my case, the front end of a truck that I can see coming up on the highway seemed like a possible choice. I wouldn't want that feeling to my worst enemy. Second thing is, altough I have the greatest respect for Dr. JP, I wouldn't call him someone who I look up to because he's happy.
