    I remember learning that Silver's species name is called "Ursid," which implies his species is bear-like and not dog-like, such as with Dr. Doppler. That is all I have to contribute to the discussion. Topically related, though, I didn't think that he and Jim were related, simply on the principle of being completely different species. The detail just felt mildly applicable.

    Related or not Silver was a better father in the short time he was with Jim than Jim's real father was the entire first few years of Jim's life. You don't abandon a child like that.

    I have a theory that Lin, from Spirited Away used to be a human that crossed into the spirit realm. She looks very different than all the other ladies working the bathhouse. After eating their food for a few days, her human smell would go away, making a deal and signing away her name could have also causes her to forget she used to be human.

    • @jcage1022
      @jcage1022 2 роки тому +1

      That's not a theory. It's confirmed. The check in guy with the bath tokens states it himself, but I think there is a theory to be stated surrounding that idea. Bc none of the other women working in the bathhouse seem to care or think about humans. My guess is most women working in the bathhouse are the souls of dead people, but Lin and Chiro were both tricked by Yubaba.

      @@karatechopkitten it's a very small line that's easy to skip over and forget about. It took me so many rewatches to really notice it, and I only did so with the Dub. He says something like "I remember when Lin used to smell like that" when they're talking about how spirit food gets rid of human smell, but he never says anything about the rest of the ladies, who I'll add all have a froglike facial aesthetic.

    I always viewed them as an adoptive father/son Duo, I mean come on there’s a reason people edit clips of Jim’s dad with Sinbad from the Dreamworks movie (not gonna lie I love that movie and if you ever make a theory on that movie I would watch it in a heartbeat) I never understood why some people were so insistent that they were related. Like I mean maybe by some chance he was distantly related sure but there’s nothing to support that theory either. Also I’ve seen a lot of theories that given Delberts kids are a son and 3 daughters and his son’s a dog and his daughters cats people have used that as “proof” he and Amelia are the same species and their species is just females are cats and males are dogs and I mean it’s an interesting theory itself but I dunno not really much proof either since we don’t see any other examples

    He may not be a Disney Dad, but he stepped in to help show Jim a route he could take. And showed him how to take what he has and can do and make his own path in life. Also stepping in as someone who is rough and tumble and more easily relatable to a troubled teen makes him by far better then a lot of disney dads of the era. In THAT way, I believe he can (and should) be counted as a Disney Dad.

    Y’know your Vanessa/Ursula video? Well, I read somewhere (maybe a book) that says that Vanessa and Ursula were separate people. Vanessa was a human princess who wanted to be a mermaid, but Ursula killed her and used her skin as a future disguise.

      I kind of doubt that. It's an interesting headcanon, and makes some illusion to the source material (OG prince marries an unnamed foreign princess who he thinks saved him), but I don't think Disney would sign off on something like that. I'm not even sure where that would feature - the movies are out, as are the musical and cartoon, because those are well documented enough (and Disney wouldn't feature a "Ursula killed someone and later stole her identity" in a kid's cartoon/movie). That only leaves some sort of obscure comic or novel, which was given free reign, and decided to dive into that... but you'd think it would appear on the wiki or something.
      Maybe you're mixing up your sources? Like, if it was actually from a fanfiction or from a fan comic, and then you heard about it second hand and mistook it as canon? It could possibly even come from another adaptation entirely - the "seawitch is the 'other girl'" is fairly unique to Disney's version, but there's nothing really stopping someone else from pulling the same twist.

    I have a question that I'm not sure the movie gives any details about: how did Jim get the scar on his face? Or is the scar actually just a metaphor for his mental state and can only be seen by us, the audience? What are your thoughts on this? Sorry if it sounds confusing.

  • @brandiarmstrong2902

    I believe the father-son relationship theory, but not as directly as it's often stated. Like you said, mentor-mentee makes more sense, so in a way, Silver was a father *figure* to Jim. Someone who cares about him much more than a crew member, but is offering *guidance* in the way a father might to his son. He helps Jim to learn and grow on this journey, but doesn't have any biological relation to the boy, as he helps Jim to become a man.

    • @jennynoelle6782
      @jennynoelle6782 2 роки тому

      Is that even still a theory though? No one's arguing that Jim and Silver don't have a mentor/mentee dynamic - it's on full display throughout the film, and acts as the 'heart' of it. A fan theory is only a fan theory if it isn't clearly canon, which is why the literal interpretation of "they're like father and son" is considered one.

    There's no way Lealand was only in his 20's when he abandoned his family. How many men under 30 yo have that kind of a beard? I'm willing to bet he was at the very least 30 by the time he took off. Not all people gain wisdom as they age, some never mature. While his son could have been an accident he had with a younger girl, their families could have pressured them to stay together for the sake of the baby, even if Lealand was much older than his bride.

    • @therealCrazyJake
      @therealCrazyJake 2 роки тому +1

      Okay, I commend you for your last points, considering how presumptuous and generalizing she came across about the age thing, but I have ABSOLUTELY witnessed people with beards that fabulous in their twenties, some even in their teens, that is a matter of genetics and hormones. I also didn’t like her points concerning the body type, because that can ABSOLUTELY change over the span of 5-8 years! Someone can broaden their chest and shoulders AND become obese within that time span, and speaking as the child of an amputee, it is DEFINITELY possible for someone to gain a lot of weight in just a few years after losing a limb. I don’t believe they’re related (though I used to), but I feel like Silver and Jim’s father were probably two different men who followed similar paths and left behind a family life out of their own selfishness and greed. The only damning evidence that disproves them being related is that neither one recognizes the other as being their long lost relative.

      @@therealCrazyJake If Lealand was in his 20's when he left as she assumes and her son was 10-13 years old upon leaving as she assumes, that means his father was 10 years old when his son was born. Again, there's just NO WAY Lealand was that young when he left.

    Personally I think they used the model Tarzan's dad, and made it more scuffy and dour, that why we can't see him well cause people would go, omg Jim and Tarzan are brothers!!!! Disney has a habit of retextualing old models and using them in other films. And they did do this for Frozen, which is why the whole Tarzan, Elsa, and Anna are family theory In the end, the dad is just a reskin Disney Parent.

    my theory is that Silver was actually Leland's best friend during their time serving in Flint's fleet. recognizing Leland in Jim but maybe can't get him self to say what happened (likely when he got mutilated himself). It explains why Silver is so attatched to him so quickly and knowing things like that Jim's mom owns the benborrow tavern. it also gives a good extra meaning to "ye loose a few things, chasing a dream" but thats only my viewpoint/theory

    I have a theory, well more like a closer look at a moive, for the movie Sleeping Beauty. Is Maleficent's curse is more darker than it appears or what would've happen if fear did take over the kingdom?
    Maleficent is known for being mistress of evil so she knew planting fear and let it watch grow within the people and the kingdom is a sure way that it destroys itself within. Just look a the first example they've shown. Burning spindle wheels that are essential to the kingdom daily and trading goods. So what other damages that fear could've inflict upon the kingdom? Or did Aurora being hidden away thwart part of Maleficent's plan?

    I didn't know there was a theory of Silver being Jim's blood father but I kind of don't like it. (not people believing it, just the theory in general) It feels very counter-intuitive to the message of the movie in my opinion. Jim is worthy of forging connections and finding family in people who he doesn't share blood with, he is capable, and there is more out there for him than the man who abandoned him. Silver being his blood father kind of contradicts this. They certainly do, in my opinion, end up with a father-son dynamic but its got nothing to do with blood, it's Silver seeing something in this Kid that others have largely given up on and eventually trying to teach him when others can't or wont. Maybe its sympathy, maybe its pity, but Silver being Jim's biological father would make this almost an obligation rather than a shine of goodness in Silver behind all of the things he does. That's just my opinion, though, this movie meant a whole lot to me as a kid and I've always identified with Jim, Silver meant a lot to me too.(end)
