Terrific tutorial, helped troubleshoot some issues I was having in getting some of my shots spot on. Keep up the great work!
I'll try! Thank you for the comment!
Great video, but I don't understand how you get it to color match to your previous clip's color chart. How do you do that? For me it always just matches to the standard color chart...Thanks for letting me know!
Another fine video Dave. I really like the case for the color checker there. Having it mounted to a stand is a big plus. I actually don't like the results from Resolve auto though. For me I would pick the hero angle and set the corrections to my taste, then match the rest to them. I have also found that if you make a temporary Black and white ( desat ) that setting the luma values first is a piece of cake. With that said I have to say that with the color checker in the frame in the exact same spot my first thing would be to zoom in on the chart on the reference and the shot to match and have the wipe down the center of whatever swatches I would be using. By doing that in B&W then and matching each swatch, turn off the black and white, then click on each swatch in the hue vs hue and move the hue to match each, you can get really close in matching.
But it is good that people see how to do it if there is no color chart in the footage, by matching it the way you did with wiping across the face.
Well explained once again, Thanks Dave.
Also Do they offer replacement inserts? In my experience most of the checkers fade over time. My local photo store had one in the window display and I told them that they fade - so they opened a new one and had to throw awa the display model. Anyone that buys them it is a good idea to only bring them out of the case when they need them.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and techniques, Jim!
In all honesty, I would almost like to do it manually as opposed to using color match. But these particular examples worked out well.
I really think a color chart is a must have. There needs to be something in the scene to reference that has defined values.
Thanks for the kind words as always!
They do. And they have a box that determines how much it's faded and when it's time to replace too.
Great info, Dave. I guess that color checker is very high quality. I didn't expect to see that price! Ha ha 🥴
haha yeah. They do sell the 24 patch one for a lower price obviously. But definitely we'll made!
a super useful tool. I think other NLEs are losing to DaVinci on professional tools. After all, there is nothing similar in others. Or am I wrong?
