- How to use a Color Chart in Post-Production • For REAL Filmmakers! • In this video I show you the easiest way to use a color chart and it doesn't matter what color grading software you use. It’s going to give you a neutral starting point for exposure, primary colors, and skin tones • Color Checker Passport for Video from X-Rite • In the past i’ve used this chart in Davinci Resolve with its Auto Color Match feature when color grading; But in my experience, with most auto presets, it doesn’t always give the best desired result. So this is my easier, better, faster way to use a color chart!

Thanks
Thank you Justin - this is very useful and helpful. Love this 🎬⛩☀️🎥😎
Thanks for the video Justin!
Thanks for this video Justin. Great info
Thank You!
Excellent episode Justin. Some super tips. Here is one when you have graded the clip the next clip that you want to use the same grade for. You highlight the ungraded clip and middle mouse click on the graded clip and it copies the grade, quicker than context menus.
Oh nice!
Wow! You are a great teacher!
Thank you
Fantastic video - thank you so much for clearing that up for a noob like myself!!!
Awesome! 🙌🏼
great video
Thanks!
Hey Justin, to add new points in Hue VS Hue/Sat, you can simply click the colored dots below the graph and it will add a point perfectly on the specific color, without changing it's value. Not that it really matters if you're gonna move them all anyway.. but if you end up not adjusting every single point, you will have moved them slightly for no reason (even though it shouldn't be that noticeable, if at all). Since you're aiming for consistency with this method, clicking the dots may be a better option. Just saying in case you didn't know.. Cheers buddy!
Thank you!
I was about to say the same 😂 it applies to the curves too
Awesome stuff brother. First time having that explained, and it was perfect. Also makes me realize how far away the work that I do is from the real real! Cheers!
🙌🏼
Dang you Justin, there you go showing me something that is gonna be a game changer for my workflow.... LOL Another Great Dog Times Video.
You the man, Nedd!
Great video :) Do you need to first white balance if you use the colour checker? S5ii owner shooting in VLOG, or can you leave the camera in AWB (auto), set to 5600k for everything or manually move the white balance dot to the checker board... bit confused. Thanks :))
Never AWB. I use Sekonic color meter to get whatver WB i want in camera (match to lights or adjust for desired WB). Chart is for matching shots in sequence.
5 star video.
Thank you!
Hi there. @7:10 How do you cut out/ gray out the outer part of your selection, so that the scopes only show your selection?
Got it; right click in the node window, select create alpha output and connect the blue dots.
Its a simple outside node. Cmd + O
Hi. But still, why didn't you choose the canon c70, and chose the fx30? After all, it is much easier to reduce the color of c70 with your red.
the c70 is nearly four thousand more.
