The 720 gas tank is a great replacement! We're still dialing in the fuel gauge because when it shows "empty" there's still like 2-3 gallons of gas left.
1980 is when the 720 series trucks came into existance. That's also when the name was changed as the tailgates said Datsun by Nissan, or Nissan by Datsun. They always were Nissan, however the name Datsun sold much better in the United States than the name Nissan. Once 1980 hit, that's exactly when the name Datsun was eventually eliminated and from then onward, it was called Nissan. After the 720 series, the D 21 series Hardbody took over, after the D 21 series Hardbody design, then the current day Frontier is now the new nameplate of the Nissan trucks, WHICH is a product of Ford Motor Corporation. Case in point, the Mercury Villiger is a Nissan Quest, and in 1990, the Ford Motor Corporation brought the Nissan Z engine off of Nissan and installed that very same engine in some of their Ford Ranger trucks and Mazda trucks.
Truck looks absolutely beautiful looking to me!!!!
Very cool. Great idea using the 720 tank. 80-86. I may run a d21 tank on my 1970 when I do engine upgrade.

Excellent summary! The "Datsun" nameplate came back recently in other countries, like India, I believe... not sure who makes those models.
