This channel is about vintage vehicles, refurbishment, repair, and most importantly, use. The channel started with a 1989 Toyota Dolphin 320RB motorhome, and we have added a 1978 Toyota Hilux Micro Mini, a 1978 Datsun Chinook Gazelle PopUp Camper, a 1978 Datsun 620 4x4. Since then we have followed the restoration of a 1987 Toyota 4Runner SR5, and other maintenance information on a 2009 VW Jetta Sportwagen. The channel shows how you can travel, use, maintain, and generally enjoy vintage leisure vehicles, even if you don't have a garage, or thousands of dollars worth of tools, plentiful land to keep your jalopies, etc. It does require you to have some mechanical knowledge and an adventurous spirit, so follow us along!
EP5: 78 Datsun 620 4x4 Is In Miami And Ready To Work! But first... let's fix a few niggly things!
In this episode we have taken the Datsun 620 4x4 from Phoenix to Miami. It's probably something that our barnfind Datsun didn't expect, but as we welcome it to its new home, there's a few more things to do.
As we have discussed in previous videos, the goal is to make it a daily driver, working truck. And we're nearly there. It drives but there are some issues with the signals (namely, they don't work :( ), and even though most people don't use their turn signals in Miami, we still should have them to be safe. Likewise, it's hot in Miami! At least in the summer, which runs from about June through October, sometimes November. And with the poor cooling system, it's not going to make it, so we have to fix that.
Last, but not least, we will need to deal with some cosmetics and some safety concerns, like the lack of a spare tire, a jack, some holes in the interior, etc... That's all detailed in the video. In a future video we'll cover the transport of the Datsun from Phoenix to Miami, and the challenges thereof. Please excuse the sound quality, we're improving our equipment and we'll have better sound in upcoming videos!

Переглядів 10914 годин тому
In the continuing series of road trips in our 1989 Toyota Dolphin Motorhome we now reach one (if not the) most popular destinations in the Western US: Yellowstone and The Grand Teton National Parks. This was truly an adventure after driving from Cheyenne, Wyoming all the way to these parks. It was the first time staying in a very remote, very primitive camping area that was amazing. A little sc...

This is a short how-to video where, at the request of some subscribers, we detail how easy it is and what you should do at the dump station to maximize the resources available. Some stuff is left out because it's obvious and we don't want to show some unpleasantness but viewers will get the idea, and, hopefully, some good tips.

After a long hiatus we finally come to the finished product... finished in the sense that it's not a perfect example of a classic '87 Toyota 4Runner SR5, but it is a usable and reliable daily driver. Plus, it's a very special story of my brother restoring this for his daughter. The 4Runner belonged to a family and their 3 teenagers learned to drive on it, and it shows. The car needed a lot of r...
EP6: Desert Roadtrip! Hiking Valley of Fire Nevada and Zion National Park Utah In Our Toyota Dolphin

In the continuing series about our road trips in our Toyota Dolphin motorhome, we now take it from Las Vegas to one of the most interesting state parks in Nevada, Valley of Fire. It's called this because of the brilliant colors of the rocks, and the rock formations found there. It was in the middle of July so the summer heat was in full swing. However, the trusty Toyota has zero problems handli...

On this video I take you on the origins of how I acquired and prepared the Toyota Dolphin, and took it on a maiden voyage. No problems, just a leaking airbag which I later diagnosed and fixed, turned out to be just a loose air connection, easy fix. I also experience a sunrise in Miami and then take a flight to California where I experience the sunset on the same day. I stayed in my RV on that a...

ENJOY following your adventures I have a 1985 toyota dolphin, i dearly love. safe travels
Sorry to see that bro people are ruthless. Your truck is still beautiful is it a stock 4wd 620?
Lovely looking Toyota truck. Why was this truck not offered here in the USA? I don't get it.
Back in the 90's Toyota decided that the US needed a truck made just for the US and the Tacoma was born. Up until that time the Hilux was the Toyota most countries received, and in the US we only knew it as the Toyota Pickup or Toyota Truck, no special name (like the Camry, Corolla, etc...) The Hilux is the Toyota most other countries see whereas the Tacoma is only for the US market.
@@fourthgear8199 Okay.
@fourthgear8199 Okay. Fair enough. Depending on what country it's sold, you can get a truck with a Toyota d4d turbo diesel engine.
Sorry to see that man them old dutsun pick-ups were pretty cool. I always like the Subaru brat more though
Yeah, I like those too! We used to have a 1978 Subaru Wagon 4x4 in our farm when I was little, not a Brat, but related. They're cool!
It's funny how people are selling original trim parts and pieces for these old Toyotas online, asking insane prices, and the parts and pieces are just as faded, damaged or busted as the ones you already have.
We had a LOT of fit issues on parts billed as "OEM Genuine", some were unusable and it's why it took so long to finish the 4Runner; there were a few we just couldn't make work so they were just returned and we had to try again.
Thanks for Sharing!
You're welcome, hope you enjoyed it!
@fourthgear8199 yes, especially since I hope to be doing the same sometime soon!
nice rebuild.
Hello, "Fourth Gear" I saw your channel and saw that in your channel have some problems, not many. For these problems your channel is not growing. If you can solve these problems, Your channel will grow like a storm. Do you want to know these problem? If you Want to know, I can only tell to you. Can I tell here or email?
Bring it up to Prescott. I know these trucks pretty well.
i remember seeing one as a kid new in a toyota dealership in marietta GA in 87 or 88. it was red w bronze graphics w bronze factory wheels w a 5 speed and black interior. i feel in love!
What did you actually fix???
Head gasket, entire front suspension (pitman arm, CVs, ball joints, pitman arm, etc..), shocks all around, new bumper, paint, numerous trim pieces, rear main seal, driveshaft seal, radiator, H29 pump, other mechanicals. It would show context if you watch the other two videos from this project.
She's pretty sweet!
Jaxkzzz truck😮,Toyota..
Immaculate 👌🏼
Very cool. Great idea using the 720 tank. 80-86. I may run a d21 tank on my 1970 when I do engine upgrade.
The 720 gas tank is a great replacement! We're still dialing in the fuel gauge because when it shows "empty" there's still like 2-3 gallons of gas left.
Cuando quieras cambiar el carburador le puedes poner un WEBER 32/36 ese carburador es muy difícil de mantener el nivel de gasolina a veces yo por eso lo cambie .
Thanks, that is something we might do in the future, it's a great option!
Nice fix. I have the same issue on my 1989 Slumber Queen. Do you have a link or more info on the replacement springs ? Thank you and I enjoy your channel.
I show the part number, when I got it I got it on eBay but I cannot find the listing for it anymore... sorry
@@fourthgear8199 Ok, no problem. I may just remove my springs and take them to a auto supply shop and see what they may have that is similar then. Thank you for taking the time to reply. 👌👌
He's looking into my soul bro
Me gusta cómo ISO para el diferencia al delantero
We bought it like that, I think it's a Toyota front axle but soon we'll do a deep dive into the components and find out...
How does the truck handle/drive down the road? Is it kinda "squirrely"?
It drives fine as long as the road is smooth and straight. Crossing train tracks sends me into a panic, as does bumpy pavement, it's all over the place!
Nice work. 👍
Thanks 👍
I have the 1978 620 datsun chinook rv with the side rear door. It was any transported to the us from Japan
The Datsun is in the shop right now getting new brakes (parts take a while to get) and trying to fix the original carburetor to keep it as original as possible without having to go to a Weber or some other carburetor. Video coming soon.
I have the 1978 model
This is so cool; once it's road-ready we plan to take it camping and hiking. It's too small to live in it full time, but it's doable, probably.
My dad built one of these when I was younger. It had a Buick v6 that ran off of gas or propane. there was a switch in the cab that you could switch to the fuel type you wanted to run. for long road trips he would run the propane and when he needed a lot of power he would switch to gasoline.
I just bought a 1971 521 4x4 coverition with a jeep front suspension. It need new wiring smh,but I'm on it 👍
Thanks for this helpful video! I want to add those height and width signs to my rig after watching this video. Nice air bags! Does the mirror tint block out too much sunlight?
It's just regular reflective film. The tint shop sourced it but it was nothing special. No, you can hardly tell the difference in the sunlight inside the coach, especially since there are two other overhead domes providing most of the illumination inside. It's a bit strange when you're sitting in a parking lot and people meander about not realizing someone is working inside :) :) :)
Window tint? 3 M?
It was just refleective film that the tint shop sourced. When you go for a tint job they give you several types and you choose the type you want. If you want premium tint they can get it for an extra charge, but this one was just one of their regular selections so no extra charge. This particular shop did auto/home, so the film may be a "home" version :) :) :).
I love to own one like that can be a very nice rig
Ohhh men you are fantastic in those improvement your toy locks perfect congrats!
Nice additions.
I really enjoyed your video. I have a 1987 Gulfstream Conquest that I'm attempting to modernize. You've given me some great ideas that appear to be relatively easy to install. I will definitely use what you've shown. Thank you.
Steal of a deal...SR5 very clean really..hate that red interior...great deal
We have a video coming up with the finished product. We kept it pretty much original so no "rock crawler" modifications or crazy stuff. I took it up to the mountains in deep snow and did great!
Can you give the name of the stereo you installed?
It's a Power Acoustik CP-650. We've had it for 5+ years now, no issues. We've only had to re-set it a couple of times but I think that had to do with an Apple Carplay issue, but resetting it was super-easy.
looks nice
You need that ECT or your transmission won’t last with that load
Yeah, that's a concern. We're keeping close tabs on the tranny fluids and saving it as much as possible but would love to find the switch.
Is it for sale
No, sorry
Lots of cool ideas here, I love these old Toyota campers!
you know almost nothing about RV systems. Calling the water heater the fridge, then the furnace exhaust the water heater! STOP PRETENDING YOU ARE DOING ANYTHING ON THIS RV!!
Super rad, Thanks for sharing this! We are renovating an 86 Toyota Odyssey on our channel. You are giving some sweet ideas!
here's a UA-cam channel about the "ECT" power button does 👇👇👇👇 ua-cam.com/video/ZacaqteKOEw/v-deo.html
The ECT button is used for going up hills so you won't burn out your transmission...high rev low spoed going up hills also going downhill
These are extremely beautiful trucks. Paint the frame add and chassis with black rust olem paint, and after cleaning put the bed, treat it to a painted bedliner coating to preserve the bed. Love these 620 and 521 series Datsun trucks.
Nice upgrades! Did you ever find a place to get that side light cover by the side door? Mine is missing too.
Good question mines us missing also
@@sandovalpaul I think everyone’s is missing after every one I’ve looked at lol
Just saw one of these in someone's backyard. They finally cut the grass and found this and an old square body chevy.
Do you have a hard time finding parts?
YES! It took us 3 months to get the rear brake hardware kit, it came from Thailand. For some reason, there are front brake kits, but not rear. The engine had some missing spaces at the water pump and we had to source those from a junkyard. The fuel tank we bought a used one and had a local radiator shop refurbish it. Things like that.
@@fourthgear8199 same here, I’ve a 1980 720 4x4 (l20b, 5spd) and it’s like pulling teeth finding (new) parts man, and when I do it takes forever. I was hoping you had better luck than I in that dept. btw, I love the solid axel. I’d kill for that setup. Did u do it yourself or was that one of the few that came like that back in the day?
That is so damn sexy.
I’ve been having a hard time with my lines for the evap system. Would you be willing to do a video on where all of the lines go?
On the next episode I'll try doing a video removing the air cleaner assy and exposing the vauum lines. Luckily, we haven't had to deal with those too much.
Wish Nissan would build these little trucks again, the 520 and 620 series trucks. Gas is now over 5 dollars a gallon. We need them! We need the gasoline milage and savings, as they don't eat to much gasoline because they all had fuel efficent 4 cylinder engines in them.
Love these older Datsun trucks.
Hi ! We just got one of these....do you still have this coach?? we have questions !
