    Put gloves on because the splinters from fibreglass hurt .
    Also long sleeves as rubbing your arms onto the fibreglass causes itchy rash

    Today I learned what the red washers are for that have been included with every faucet set I bought for the last 40 years. I’ve never seen hard copper going to a sink before … here in Southern California, Everything … is done by flex hose.

    • @andyd2528
      @andyd2528 3 місяці тому

      Flex hoses are not ideal.
      They have a rubber washer inside.
      Water vibrates as it travels.
      Rubber wears/bites through easier than fibre.

    • @tech5298
      @tech5298 3 місяці тому

      @@andyd2528
      I’m not an engineer and was not aware of rubber incompatibility with vibrations. I will eliminate all rubber and flexible materials from all water connections from now on. Thank you for the free advice! (I sure hope an earthquake never happens again…🥹)

    • @andyd2528
      @andyd2528 3 місяці тому +1

      @tech5298 Ideally flexible hosed should be connected to a flat m/f fitting .
      The bottom of the tap has a sharp rather than flat edge.
      Hence vibration bites into the rubber.
      We rarely get earthquakes in Lancashire ,England.
      I've been doing this job 42 years and most leaks I find are on rubber seals. (Not the type that clap and eat fish).

    • @tech5298
      @tech5298 3 місяці тому

      @@andyd2528
      I know exactly what you mean by the flat fitting. I see them from time to time or I noticed them from time to time, so I know exactly what you’re talking about. I think we had an earthquake a couple of days ago I never even noticed it, and I certainly didn’t pay much attention to it when somebody mentioned it to me . I see lots of flexible hoses that have leaking fittings and I have a special labor price for replacing those washers for washing machines versus replacing the entire hose which I always recommend for my clients. I once had a hand crank with a honing stone on it for a really small washbasin faucet seats that could not be removed. I only used it once, so I know exactly what you’re saying about that raised edge where the rubber seats.

    • @andyd2528
      @andyd2528 3 місяці тому

      @@tech5298 Luckily we don't many earthquakes in England.
      Our highest is probably about 2.5.
      But I've been telling people about this for years and in the main they've thought I'd lost my marbles.
      Water moves , it causes friction and vibration.
      This is one of the things they don't teach apprentices in college.
      At least you get it , even if nobody else does.
      Thanks for that.
      Hey. I can only explain it for people. I can't understand it for them 😂😂.
