I've been a Cubase User since Logic went Mac only. I will say this, I love Cubase but the GUI is quite possible the worst of all the top DAW's..jmo but take a look at the latest DAW's. They look Modern. Crisp and clean..Cubase is Fuzzy, bad fonts etc...Luckily It functions well..lol #djrtnyc
Funny you think so. I feel quite the opposite; I think Cubase looks great as opposed to the other ones. For instance: Ableton. It has probably the worst GUI of them all. It's so ugly and dated looking. And Studio One. Yugh, those dark brown colours are hiddious. And Logic looks like a toy program imo.
Okay first of all, her song is way better than mine and now I'm self conscious, but second... This is amazing. I knew there were programs out there like this but this blew my mind! I play guitar but I don't know music theory so I'm going to input the recommendations here and get the structure of it all figured out with the software and then switch that over! Can't believe how helpful this video was, I was absolutely stuck and now I see the light at the end of the tunnel
Firstly wow! Secondly great video. This guy is brilliant at getting straight to the point and being really informative. And cubase pro omg it’s incredible.
Great for composing, although he did race past the bit the video was meant to actually be about, taking the vocal and putting it into notes. Gone are the days of picking up your guitar and finding the notes yourself. Man, I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about it.
What a quality of life collection of features, I am going try all of that! (Btw coments below it's not just on Pro I have Artist and it seems to be on mine)
I noticed that the person was dragging the end of vocal chops manually making a fade out, but why can't he/she use auto fade in/out??? Isn't that a feature which steinberg was working on to make our life more simple?
I have sold so many musicians on Cubase it is hard to estimate. I have been influencing musicians and selling and training people on computers since the Atari ST days, But Andy Shrvinade is the best teacher ever on steinberg products. Come back Andy , i miss you weirdy beardy ring thumb guy.
Before I knew anything about music production. I used to hire a small studio where I did two demos about 10 or so years ago and the engineer/keyboardist used Cubase and with all our sessions he did things fast and effectively... Then, just for the sake of experiencing how it will be to have another demo produced in one of our National Studios in Johannesburg, with big boards and Apple Computers, etc... I hired a duo of engineers to help me produce a new demo and it took them about 12 hours to produce a song demo, where I did not even get a chance to give my input on the instrumentation and accompaniment to the lead and backing vocals that we had the same singer do. Those guys simply took way too long to put the song pieces and vocal parts together and they were not seeming to be flexible with any of my requests, as per similar requests I would ask from the Cubase producer, who would act on such requests on the fly... Back then already I knew, that Cubase was untouchable.
Guys, is there possible to print / create chords with a midi keyboard at selected time without running the actual recording? Just go to a time I want , and press a chord I want, and it gets printed/ created in midi editor. Possible?? Thnx❤
I wish to share my experience as to why I watched this video even if I know the techniques. I am a working music composer and so far I've worked with 100s of clients and I know all these techniques to extract chords for vocals. You can do it in any other DAW too or using melodyne on vocals. But guess what?? Still upto this day I get few clients who always complain about their vocals sounding "dissonant" with the chord structure i composed for them. (yes I am talking about original vocals not covers of existing songs which are much easier to compose since you already know all the chords) Recently I composed a backing track around my clients vocals which was clearly in F minor and I used all the chords from that key to support the vocals and come up with a nice sounding melody still he was complaining I didn't do it right and chord structure was "wrong" according to him. I politely let him cancel the gig and returned him money cuz sometimes no matter how much you try some clients always find faults just because their ears ARE NOT TRAINED musically like yours. i also know vocal tuning techniques if someone is wondering if I tuned the vocals or not. Yes I tuned it for any off key notes within the vocal scale. Still some clients complained. although I have had 5 such clients only who complained out of 100s who have had appreciated my work Any one faced this?? kindly comment
Sounds like they need a bit of help in the early stages, with setting expectations for what it's going to sound like. A bit of collaboration on the song, song back and forth would work well for you both.
I think this comes down to a) him accepting that he's singing in Fm (and you can prove that to him - Cubase will analyze his vocal), b) from that, you can then justify your chord choices. You can also play his melody using a piano track, with the chords, and ask him, if he doesn't like the chords you have chosen, which ones, and suggest different ones - work on it together. Better to do this than lose a client I think. You can help him and by understanding why it doesn't sound right to him, maybe it will help you.
I just saw the amazing video.. i am a beginner so without buying the total pro stuff software with which version of Cubase can i do this? Thank you for helping
I'm hoping for Cubase 12 we can drag audio into chord track and it'll show the chords of the audio like in Studio One. Also we need an option where we bring up the circle of 5th it stays on the screen and it won't disappear. Who else is waiting for Cubase 12?
Very good very helpful however how do you humanize the playing of those chords? Does Cubase have a “humanize midi” setting.? Or do you know of a plugin it could even be a different manufacturer that could be inserted into the track that would add a random attack and velocity?
I was going to build a new hackintosh for Logic and bought new hardwares. But my Tv didnt let me enter to bios properly to make the setup and was crashing always. So I've decided go with windows 10 till I've figured out the problem. And later on I've remembered that I've got 2 cubase AI codes which was sitting around for 3 years from yamaha mixers which I've bought before. Then I said to myself........ for all these years I've been using Logic and didnt look at cubases face for a long time, lets give it a try.................. I think now its Logics turn to wait for a while : )
can I do this in cubase 5, it's maybe not as high tech, but I basically just want to find the right chords for my melodies? would really appreciate the advice.
Only with 10 version. If you wanna keep up to date and you work professional, productivity is key. Cubase 5 is quite old, I use Cubase since the beginning, back with Atari 1024, but now days deadlines and budget are much tigth. We need to compose, produce record and deliver fast! ⚡
Feature request: please implement some cool AI function that writes great lyrics to my chords and melodies! 😜 I have no problems with composing, but writing lyrics is a pita...
Hello, the thing is that this guy rushes through each procedure so, sometimes it's hard to get the action you need to take, ... so no, the piano he's using is a Hal ion SE piano!!? but he picks it up too quick for you to understand what has just been done ... and the he moves on to another procedure, and your lost in babble. You need to select an instrument track and then choose an instrument you'd like to use and highlight the speaker icon to monitor it. You'll see this in the 'Chord track' as 'Use Monitored Tracks'. Hope this helps
the reason why i ask is sometimes when i switch cubase pro 8.5 to another computer it asks me if i want to activate it, so i wanted to know if it can run with elicenser without activation code??
B.G.S global gospel music chennel you just need to plug your USB dongle into the new computer. It doesn't really require much else than that. I did install e-licenser too in case I buy more Steinberg stuff too though. It's quite simple. It didn't ask about activation at all.
Nice video with an interessting approach to make music, as usual. But I think, it's too much Information too fast to be able to follow. It's more an adventising "wow, You can do everything with this sw". I'm not sure, for what pupose it's been made, but I'm sure there are a lot of users - like myself - out there, who wish to see a video to be able to follow the single steps.
All these discussions online regarding which is the best DAW. I don't know, but there is no discussion imo; Cubase wins every time.
Function over form every time, since it's not a beauty contest.
agreed

Great to see you back with new video. Greg is doing a nice job too. Your points of views are differents and complete each other very well...
You all make the best videos :-) ... and always showing how brilliant and real world Cubase is, too!
Thank you for this very helpful video 😊👌
I've been on CB11 for a few years now and still I learn new ins and outs. Very much worth the investment!
After extracting the MIDI from the vocal, I would as a first thing gave Cubase detect the key using the Scale Assistant.
Definitely a few important steps left out
I love the chord track! Using media bay sample loops with it is epic.
Great for composing, although he did race past the bit the video was meant to actually be about, taking the vocal and putting it into notes. Gone are the days of picking up your guitar and finding the notes yourself. Man, I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about it.

Thanks for making this vid. I’m glad I bought 9.5 pro
I have no musical theory and a limited budget. Are the chord tracks available on a cheaper version of Cubase?
thank you so much for those tips

When recording the vocals, as in this demonstration video, do you have to use a click or metronome for the vocals?
I can do this with cubase 5 ? Thank you!
some good tricks, thx
daaaaaang i had no clue you could do all of that!
I just saw the amazing video.. i am a beginner so without buying the total pro stuff software with which version of Cubase can i do this? Thank you for helping
Varipitch is in more professional versions, but if you can play the Melody on a keyboard (even the on screen keyboard), you can do it all in LE
this is dope but actually way longer lol
is it another way?
do you have to do this with a sample
when the notes already perfect

That's one of the most basic things that any DAW can do it without 3rd party plugins
Wow its great
Only available in Pro?
Yes
I love your jobs
Steinberg please get Andy Shrav back doing Cubase 11 pro tutorials. He is the best presenter you ever employed.
Starting what version has this feature? Cause I find the latest (pro 10) quite expensive right now.
Only Pro, and to be honest the other versions are too limited
Cubase pro 9.5? 5? 10?
Awesome, thank you.
BRILIANT!
can Cubase pro 9.5 run with elicenser, without activation code??
Nice video! Thanks Andy!
Thank you...amazing is Cubase
Can you tell me which editing software are you using in this video?
Cubase Pro
I like your Teaching
Yes ..I Say to you that tell cubase Is even the winner in a software competition

@RI CHI HARMONY have you had any luck? I've looked at apps, haven't come right
@RI CHI HARMONY thanks this sounds good!
Only with 10 version.

What mic is that?
That's awesome
Remarkable....!!!
Can we use chord track like this in Cubase Elements 10?
Alex Burton I find that no generate harmony in Elements
@@yuanalexander Thanks.
thanks, excellently simple
Nice tip, sorry so does it work with on cubase pro
Hi, no the chord track is also available in Cubase Elements 9 and Cubase Artist 9 but with limited features.
Less features maybe but not really limited as such. I recently upgraded from Elements 8 to 9.5 and it is a great package for my modest home studio.
Which version of Cubase Pro is this?
10
So this is possible in any cubase Version or just the Pro?
If “this” means variaudio then yes, only in the pro version. If “this” means the chord track then yes in all versions.
Feature request: please implement some cool AI function that writes great lyrics to my chords and melodies! 😜
I have no problems with composing, but writing lyrics is a pita...
Hi, maybe you can use VST Transit and finde someone that will write them for you ;)
Plz elaborate sir how can I . Me too have the same problem I can't write. But can create melodies at will
I assume this doesn't work with Cubase Elements 10.5?
Everything but varipitch
Does the piano gets installed automatically?
Hello, yes the piano sound is there by default.
How did he pull up the circle of fifth?

ooo ok, i got it know thank you
Hi, no, that is not possible, without the license it will not work, that is the whole purpose of the anti-copy device ;)
Anyone knows if there's something like this for FL studio?
No
Have you ever seen studio One?
yes .. in the beginners topic
Thank you !
I think these days Cubase UA-cam channel uploads very useful tips!
that pitch & warp tab is the only reason i want to upgrade lmao
I didn't know yo could do that already 2018, and its almost 2021 now- I am a fool not having used it.
Good one TU^ 44 ;-) Trevor
COOL!!
Imagine this was 4 years ago but now Cubase 12 has even more bells and whistles.
