I have vinyl siding also and it too includes a melted spot from the grill just like yours, lol. 😢 Can't wait to see what you fo with it. Love the bench. I just found your channel and subscribed. Im also an empty nester.
@@ourlifesimplified I have limited experience. I've heard exterior outdoor deck paint or plain exterior house paint is probably the best the best performing but may be the aesthetically least appealing. I've heard people say use an appropriate stain and oil oil oil and oil. I will try oil on a plank shelf this year. Last year I saw the finish on my poly coated benches deteriorated to bare wood in 1 year. This year I'm trying deck paint I got for $4 a gallon on tables and planks for planter shelves
@@maxpolaris99 hey... thank you for your response. There is a difference between 'poly' vs 'spar' urethanes ... Todd usually advises me on which might work best depending on the project I'm working on. Todd used to refurbish wood boats when he was in college (the expensive ones) and Spar Urethane is what was used due to its waterproof properties. Now I do think there might be a difference, as in a 'marine grade' vs a regular? But I will keep you posted on how well the Spar Urethane holds up to the elements :)
Love that bench

Thank you! And we have so much in common!! You're awesome! Virtual hugs my fellow empty Nester!
And I have a few ideas rolling around in my head!!!
Poly doesn't stand up to the elements very well at all.
Oh. The water seems to be beading up on it... what do you recommend?
I just looked back through the video.. I used Spar Urethane... not poly...
