I did 2 benches with arm rests for my firepit area. They cost 41.00 each. You won't find good outdoor furniture for that price that will last like these will.

I just completed this project and would like to suggest the following tips: 1) 1 row of the blocks that form the base of the bench should be half (4 in. wide) blocks. This will make the bench equal to standard chair height. A base with a height of 3 regular blocks won't allow the average person (especially shorter people) to be able to comfortably rest their feet on the ground. 2) The blocks that form the backrest should have the flat side meet the base, so that more surface area with adhesive can bond the backrest to the base. 3) Adhesive definitely works, provided you use the right one. I use Sika landscaping block adhesive and the bond is super strong. However, if you are still weary of safety, you can use 4" c-clamps to reinforce the joint between the backrest and bench. 4) Three 4x4s are enough for the seating (5 total). The 4th one for the seating isn't really necessary unless you plan to use cushions for the backrest (to keep the pillows from falling through). 5) Use the best side of the lumber for the surfaces of the bench. Sides with splinters will slowly tear up your cushions.
@@joelthomas4294 I know I was thinking the same thing. If a standard 4×4 is 8 feet I would prefer to do a smaller one. I'd make 2 smaller chairs instead of one larger one
I was staying at a Air BnB in Amarillo Tex couple years ago. They had the same design set up bit they had painted the cinder blocks orange & black and the ends of the wood did not stick out of the ends, it was beautiful....
I just complete this project and used construction adhesive. It looks great in the space I have been wanting to do something with for the longest time.
I am going to build this, but I'm going to make it a little narrower or used longer four by fours and push them through so they make table on either end. 😁
I had some 4x4's and brick laying around so I built this and it holds up just fine despite those that think it's unsafe. I weigh 280 lb and purposely leaned all my weight on the back and it held just fine. So many haters!
I love the video and step by step instructions. I got all the materials and I'm super excited about putting it together. Thank you for sharing your idea.
I love this idea. For me, with my short legs, I think it would need to be one block lower, but apart from that - awesome looking fun bench. Thanks for sharing.
I think a shorter bench would be appropriate, or add a center. Everything is about balance, things last longer, it will not brake , but with time the weight on it plus weather will make an impact on durability. Thank you for showing folks beautiful and great things do not have to cost a fortune!!! Be well, be safe, best regards!!
I was SO about to make this. I love this idea! Cheap cool and comfy! However, I realize this would be a pain during hurricane season to remove off the patio :(
Hi. I have a beautiful old metal headboard with the bottom poles sticking out, and thought i could put those through the blocks. If i built up the back with blocks i think it would stabilize the back. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
The blue looks more like liquid nails to me...you can stick anything together and it's not coming off..there's also construction adhesive..also very strong..i'm going to build this..it's lovely

Hi! I'm just reading your post. Do you have any pictures? (6 years later, LOL)
You have no idea how helpful this is for me
You make this look SUPER easy. Finding the cushions would be the hardest part
Any local foam shop should easily make you custom sized cushions.

Great idea.....I think i'll use mortar instead of adhesive, lay the blocks as you would normally as building a wall, so half blocks needed
Thanks for the idea, I thought I would have to pay someone to make a bench but I don't anymore:) and I already have the blocks
Beautiful. I'm building one as we speak. Love it
Adding one to my yard today. Nice work
Thank u for this wonderful video. I am going to try this dyi in the morning

Just made one with the verticle back and used a waterproof goop located at my local ACE. It is solid as a rock.

You don’t have to remove it 🤷🏽♀️
Being creative ✨️
This is really really cool
I added one of these benches to a park nearby that only had 1 bench to sit on. I hope it'll last before anyone tries to remove it.
Exactly what I needed.
Should we also glue the wood 4 by 4 in cinder block as well? What for the leaning, they are not 4 by 4 and something thinner and lighter?
This looks cool
Ive been wanting a new bench forr my Mama's graveside.
Im just too slow to remember what I need
I’m gonna make it ❤️
THIS IS SO GENIUS!!!!
It's the furniture I want. I like wooden furniture.👍
It would be nice if you told us how long those 4 x4 are. And what is the distance between the end pieces
Definitely agree🤔
