Pull the VTM4 CEL codes. That will tell you what the issue is. On your Pilot, get a paperclip, or short piece of wire. On the OBD2 port under the dash, jump pins 9 and 4. For your reference the BROWN wire is pin 9. When you jump those, you are jumping the diagnostic system to ground, pulling the 4.2 odd volts to chassis ground. turn the key to the ii position, watch the light for blinking codes. That will tell you what the issue is. mine gave me, DTC codes 11,13,15,17,32,34,36,37,85,and 112. This led me to Its a body ground that I forgot to reconnect :D. If you need a service manual, there is one floating around online. it covers EVERYTHING. Chock Honda forums. I think I found it there somewhere. 2569 pages.
Good on you for taking it up yourself and learning. Thanks for sharing your experience. I just tore my 08 pilot (J35A9) top end down and re-valved it, new seals etc. It's dudes like you that make that possible. mad respect. \m/

Quick question, before changing anything, did you check the vtm button to see if the 4wd was working? My check engine light and vtm4 light came on together and my button does not light up or turn on

My pilot had same problem. I ended up charging the alternator. Just check the alternator output for 14 volts.

Hey you know that meter has a dedicated DC setting that may be more accurate

@@olderrol1968 yeah, that Auto also looks to be a loZ input (low impedance) . On any power supply, meter etc, look for the --- over the .... That is Direct Current. The Alternating AC would typically have a SINE wave, or say VAC / VDC. Knowledge is power my friend! More power to you!
