How to test troubleshoot Isuzu NPR diesel no start, hard start, won't start without starting fluid

My 2005 GMC W3500 (same as Isuzu npr) with the 5.2 Liter 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine wouldn't start without starting fluid, so I immediatly suspected a fuel problem.
After replacing the fuel filter and bleeding the fuel system multiple times, it still didn't fix the problem.
I came up with a test to test the fuel return, or pressure buildup, of each injector individually.
To perform the test, what you have to do is make a cap for the fuel supply line to the injector from the common rail. Next, cap each fuel supply line from the common rail one by one and attempt to start the engine. If it starts with one of the fuel lines to the injector capped, you know that that injector is allowing fuel to pass and not allowing enough fuel pressure to build in the common rail to start the engine.
My test showed that the injector on cylinder #4 was allowing the fuel to pass and not allow the pressure to build high enough to start it. To be on the safe side, I'm replacing all 4 injectors, but in reality, I could have got away with replacing just the 1 bad injector.

Replace at 292,000 and got to 352,000 and well 60,000 miles and my injectors went bad again and i replaced them with denso plug and play injectors they worked great, But i had two major failures that probably damage them first my radiator blew a leak and overheated my engine fix that and was running good then my injection pump fuel line broke at the injection pump. The pump head seperated and fuel was leaking out all over the place driving around sucking air, So i had to put a new injection pump and fuel line at 1900 dollars to get the truck running then it started not idling good and slowly started have problems starting i had to ride the starter to get it started but once running it would start better. Put the Tech2 scanner on and while shutting each injector off one at a time two of them made no change in engine idle so lucky me i'm in for another 1500 dollars for injectors just lovely. oh also driving around sometimes i would loose power and have to shut the truck off and restart to get going again. I also have to pull my rear axles because the wheel cyclinders are leaking and my rear deferential seal is leaking oh and my A/C lost all its gas from rotting lines where they clamp to the frame shit what else do i have to do i can't remember. Sure wish i had 85,000 to buy a new truck.....

Truck developed a slightly rough idle after changing the fuel filter , have bled it several times on the hand primer pump , what could be the issue guys . Can air in fuel system cause rough idle ?

Put a vacuum pump like the kind of bleed the brakes with go all the way to the top fuel filter by the engine, pull the fuel from there that’s what I did when that pump did not work the Isuzu guy just told me to change the entire primer housing 😢 bad

I just fix this on 1 of my trucks it was sitting for more then a year, 3 diferent mechanic saw the truck but did not find the problemFirst I check turbo everything was fine Then I check the exhaust brake it was damage but was not the problem. The egr valve was stuck. I but a new one on ebay but when I was going to change stud broke I was lucky it broke when took the intake out there was my problem my intake was damage new inner intake and new exhaust valve no more problem with black smoke

Did you do the injectors yet? I also have a 2005 npr the other day when changing the fuel filter fuel would not stop siphoning out of the fuel tank i had to put a bucket under while changing the filter
i'm thinking the suction control value is leaking. I never had this problem before. 290,000 miles still running strong.
What was the fix?

When you change a fuel injector on the Isuzu it needs to be reset with the computer?? My husband changed #3 and was working smooth, but 2 days later it has a loud clang clang noise and is shaking a bit and doesn’t run over 50 and choke sometimes while going up to 50mph

why would one bad injector not start a engine......mine has the same problem sometimes and
it has started on 2 cylinders...
If 1 injector is bad (bad due to because it's leaking,) it won't allow the rest of the injectors fuel pressure to build high enough to fire.
My Hyundai diesel service manual says that will only happen on common rail engines......leaky down all injectors,
not in-line pumps.....maybe its just hyundai but i would not think so.....
This is a common rail system. Not sure about yours, but this one is.

These engines will only start if turned over very fast - they need decent batteries to provide the CCA needed otherwise they wont start
Yes, I have replaced all 4 fuel injectors. It starts up great now, with no ether needed. The engine seems to run good, but unfortunately it doesn't rev up (only about 10% rpm) in Drive or reverse. It will only fully rev up (100% rpm) neutral or park. I know the transmission is good because it ran and drove with the old injectors. So now I don't know what to do. I'm thinking the high pressure fuel pump is the problem.
no u just need to hook up idss and check to see if any faults come up. with the Isuzu motor any fuel fault code will kill the throttle until it clears. it takes 5 key cycles to reset the fault without scan tool try that first fuel pump seems fine

I have the same engine that acted similarly but not identically - I think it would go into limp mode when loaded and wouldn't rev up in park or neutral. Replacement of FPR, SCV and one injector fixed it if I remember correctly. Dealer told me not to use aftermarket fuel filter/seperators. A few people online reported problems after using aftermarket filter/seperators too. Hope you got this fixed. The paramotoring is cool!

Tommy Bryan Listen for hum from fuel pump. If no hum, check fuse and do a continuity test on relay. If they check out, buy new fuel pump.
Also...check fuel filter. Lol
This diesel doesn't have a lift pump
