Hopefully UA-cam is compensating you brother. I didn’t see an advertisement so I fear you aren’t. You deserve a good paycheck every month from all the info you share
This guy not only knows his stuff, he explains it with perfect vocabulary and in an understandable way.
Yeah I love his vids

What makes the return pipe does not returns fuel in the tank
I know positively nothing about diesel engines, and very little about engine mechanics in general, and this guy still managed to make tis easy to understand. Fantastic! Thanks a lot for the info.
Hands down the absolute best diesel channel period. I’m sure you have got some interesting stories to tell about dyno runs on the diesel trucks. I would love to see a video one day about dyno runs and another day in the life video. Another great informative video as always brother.
I like the Powerstrokehelp channel. He shows when you need the genuine Ford part and when you need a special replacement part. EDIT: and he shows you just how bad some aftermarket parts can be.
Skyline Fever problem is he’s no longer working on 6.0, 7.3 diesels. 6.4 is also no longer being serviced by Bill. I love my 6.0 and my 7.3 which is literally a million mile survivor...
@@adventuresofwillandshelby6013 Yes, he said those trucks are no longer profitable for him to repair. However, his advice does greatly help DIY-ers and some types of professionals.
Another excellent video. I think so many mechanics need to take note of this analytical way of troubleshooting. Beautifully presented also.
Easily the Best Diesel Channel out there!! So easy to understand!👍🏼👍🏼

Great work!! I have a 3126 in my FL70 quad cab 4x4 service truck and get along good with cold starts but have had the injector oil seal problem. Ended up with oil in my fuel. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Sir. I own two backhoes. A John Deere 300 and a Massey Ferguson 50A Both are vintage , Your video really helped. I Liked,Shared,Added to playlists. All my best.
You explain very well. It was a pleasure to hear your informative video. A+
i learned that i miss the old purely mechanical diesels even more than i thought i did.
Don't we all.
That’s why I bought a totally mechanical Zetor tractor
Thank you Adept Ape.

Very informative josh...good idea with the vacuum gauge
Thanks Josh always interesting keep up the great work 👍🇦🇺
Love ur channel. I wish you download videos more often.
You explain this stuff so precisely I can watch this video and be able to relate it too my gasoline engine problems lol
TO echo what many people have said, going back 2 years, you are super informative and very helpful!
Hey thank you.
Very clear speaking. And not speaking to fast. Good for people
Like myself. Who are not mechanical engineers.
Battery to starter cable gets massive current. That high heat, over time, excellerates corrosion, increasing resistance, which makes that cable an additional load on the starter when it's old
I wished I'd a paid better 'tension in school!!! I enjoy listening to smart people. I'm like President Bush, "I'm not very smart but I got a lot of smart people around me"!! I watch every video because I learn something every time.

Love your expetise bro. Keep up the good work. Wish you could work on my cat engine on my freightliner
Good stuff👍. I have a 3406e 5ek and i changed the timing sensor on the top right (drivers side) of the gear housing, but where's the 2nd?
My modern 2016 Mercedes with its 2.2d OM651 never ceases to amaze me. You hit the starter button and within a nanosecond it starts !. I swear the pistons hardly move and it just starts. How they achieve that i will never know.
Love diesels !. 200bhp and 420NM, and 72mpg. Whats not to like.
Your explanations are simply superb
Great info 👍.
What would cause the engine to stall 30-90 seconds after startup on Heui 3126? Started doing it after installing a cat reman injection pump. If you try and work the throttle, it may stay running or it may rev erraticly on its own for a few seconds.
I did an inframe on my 3406e watching your videos started right up on the first try actually gave me confidence to be able to do it, pretty easy to do not as complicated as was expecting 👍🏼
Congratulations. Glad it worked out. Happy New Year
I've spent some time watching a few of your videos. I'm not at all mechanically inclined, but I'm keen on reliability especially since I'm considering buying a 30 or 39 foot Class A diesel pusher somewhere in the 2003 to 2008 range. I think you do a tremendous job with your overviews. Where the heck are you located and, when I get to a point I've found an RV I'm interested, are you open to giving some advice on the engine? Also, if it's at all possible, I'd be willing to drive the RV to you to have you give it a thorough inspection if you are open to something like that. Thanks again for your time and attention on this subject, I get a lot out of it. Best of luck to you.
To piggy back off your mechanical checks, look for worn/ frozen belt pully. I have had a few belts slow down on cranking from a worn ac compressor bearings.
So informative. My problem with my series 60 is it feels like there's a draw on the batteries. I have 4 brand new batteries and a kill switch. I'll check the wires. Hopefully its contact issues.
Thanks for these great information
Great channel sir
I have a 1983 BJ42 with 3B Diesel on it. Before removing the cylinder head the engine was starting very easy but after the head job, it takes some time. Will appreciate any help.
Wow thanks so much I wish I could send you a video of my situation with my c13
You are amazing at explaining this stuff. Big up
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us .
Thank you! Very usefull info
Excellent once again cheers brother love your channel
Thank for this video
1 question I wanna ask if the diesel pump is knocking in the morning or when it's cold
Years ago the joke about one brand of diesel engines that was very hard starting: If a child walked by your truck on a hot day carrying an ice cream cone, you would need either to start your engine.
Just got through working on my Dakota power plant. Looking forward to finding out about diesels.😀
Awesome job, thank you so much .
Thanks for sharing
Can you please make a video about various engine block heaters and which one you prefer more and different designs? Thank you in advance.
thanks dear for concentrated information 👍👍👍
Are those compression ratios with or with out the turbo?
Great video learned a lot.
Nice sir, I like it. Give me more idea about caterpillar engine.
My question if a engine miss fire wild running at mid or high idle and give off white smoke are it pops and sounds like it miss in a milly second with the white smoke what could cause tht problem ?
Hey I have a c7 with ard head ,will not start while cranking. Hit it with a small amount of starting fluid starts and runs fine any thoughts
My 3406E 1lw starts Luke Brand new... it wasn't like that with older batt cables but now it starts right away...
My 3046 cat engine on my d5 dozer will not start without ether at first, burns a ridiculous amount of oil but runs great. I’m thinking maybe worn vale guides and or a bad exhaust side turbo?
If i manually prime my toyota corolla d4d 2003 then it starts much better in the cold, in the mornings. Does this suggest a fuel pump or fuel tank/line pressure loss overnight ? thanks ?
Enjoyed the video
Really good video, I learnt a lot, thanks..
I have a fiat ducato van, 2.3L 120 multijet... with a hard start...
It cranks for about 5 seconds, then struggles into life, with a ploom of white smoke when it starts, and runs rough for about 5 seconds, I normal blimp the throttle, then its perfectly fine.... from the sound of your video this is a cold misfire... most like injector? is there anything else I should check?
I have checked battery, cleaned and tighten the battery cables (positive was loose, made it better but still issue). injector leak off test done which was fine, changed the pressure regulator as I thought it should hold pressure in the rail when off as I was told this has a check valve (your video says its doesn't hold pressure).
I checked FPR sensor on my OBD, starts around 5000PSI, idles 6300PSI, goes up when I press the throttle as expected. when I shut off it drops to 58PSI in about 10 seconds, if I then check it 2 days later then its still sat at 58psi never goes down below that, but sometimes I've watched it with nothing running, and the 58psi will change to 26psi for just a second then go straight back to 58psi, so it seems to work, but also maybe seems dodgy....
is it also worth checking compression or timing as a few people have suggested?...
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated thanks :)
What kind of engine ecm software is good to buy?
I'm working on a giant lemon (2013 Maxxforce DT 7.6). The engine surges badly at idle after warm up. I depress the accelerator to a 30% angle or less and the engine smoothes out. What could it be?
Very helpful thank you
I have 2001 cat D8R with 3406
It's in the dealership for 2 months now .
The issue is with diesel line leake , we have changed all line , install new clambs , rebuild the diesel pump and still there is something causing the leakage , it's not on one line , every time we fix a line the leakage come from the next one.
Dealership says it's return valve , they changed it and still the same.
Any idea or suggestions for my issue ?
Thank you G
Muy buena informacion.
Mil gracias. Me huviera gustado encontrar esta informacion en espanol. Deditito artiba 👍👍👍
Mine last year in the cold would have a miss only when accelerating when the coolant temp is below like 130-140, when idling its 100% fine...its not hard to start at all.
Some of the old trucks had a t-handle you'd pull to relieve the compression in order to get the engine turning over. And no I'm not referring to the t-handle for shutting down the old Detroits.
Also, I remember trucks that had a different voltage/amperage for the starting system.
HELLO FROM IRAQ WELL DONE
Hi,
What are causes of oil come out from exaust pipe?
My 3204 DI engine is always hard to start. It cranks over way too slow. The cables get extremely hot when its being cranked too.
Love the intro
Any chance to make a video on the best way to set up your diesel for rolling coal
Hi Ape just discover this channel, really helpful info Thanks.
What about hard starting engine when in working temperature?
I have mondeo mk5 2.0l diesel TDCi ,this is Ford fusion in USA .I live in UK and the weather is between 0 and 25 celsius over the year.I have an issue when engine is hot.
If I stop the engine and try to start it straight after is turning much more than usually need to start, but I use a start stop and the engine shut and start on a traffic light for example I dont havy any issues.just a note Camshaft position sensor is new and is genuine from main dealer.
So if you give me any guide will be much appreciated.
hello, its' great and interesting class what you did, but where do i found all the "Engine class 101. ?
I have a 2005 Cat C7 Acert. Very hard starting. When it does finally start, it sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders, once started picks up a couple cylinders pretty quick, and then the other one a few seconds later and then it's running smooth and no problems. All while cranking and about the first minute or 2 after starting, putting out a huge plume of gray smoke. So according to this video, likely injectors, or could it just be the seals? It does have some codes that need to be read. Of course first things first, get the codes read for the known problems. So I have an idea what to be expecting, any strong idea of what I'll be looking at for repair? It's only got 131,000 miles / 5005 hours so I'd hope it's certainly worth repair and shouldn't have any major issues anytime soon provided I keep the oil clean and changed at proper intervals. Thx for any help or suggestions.
Great great info...i just WISH that there was a HOW TO VIDEO along with the verbal ... but that you
Thank you
What is your opinion on the use of ATF in the fuel tank? I have a BXS and was thinking about trying it. I also have a ISX CM871 I wanted to try also.
I used it, no problems on my CM870. This year I drive MXS and using Two Cycle Oil, seems like it pulls better, I’m pretty sure ATF is fine. ATF for ISX 871 might not work if it’s not deleted cause it might block you DPF filter faster. Do some research on google, just type in in google search whatever you want. Also check out www.rawze.com
Do you have any thing on your page for starting an charging systems I'm goin for the electric test with ase an looking for any help possible thanks in advance

Wow I learned a lot by this video
Air start = no more hard cold starts. Funny how rare a feature it is today, only see it on artic equipment and some military equipment.
It's a good method and they didn't sell enough parts . So less parts less money no interest from manufacturers
as long as you have a running engine to power the compressor, and huge tank for storage
@@trevorchadwick5479 Air starts have a tank of compressed air already. The whole point of air start is to be able to start when the electrical system is taxed due to conditions such as extreme cold.
Just google air start diesel and you'll find lots of old trucks with air starts and not a compressor or mother bottle in sight.
i love my air starter i even set one up on my bike instead of the oem style but i carry a hand pump
We have an air starter on a truck and is awesome until you run out of air.
I'm a much better operator than mechanic, but in the course of my time around machinery/trucks I've learned that corroded terminals, contacts and compromised wiring is one of the first things I look for when diagnosing starting or ignition difficulties. Seen a lot of guys replace batteries when it was actually just corroded terminals on the lead wires and batteries. Next up are clogged filters dropping fuel pressure to the pump and injectors. Fuel filters get neglected a lot because of people being a little leery of the process of purging air after the filter is changed.
Have you ever did a manual pump conversion i done one but am struggling to start..It's a zd30 with td27 diesels pump
Thank you sir appreciate the help
Good video
Oh thanks for what ya done so far
I Love learning about how diesel engine trouble problems are solved.
So if I turn down the injector pump setting tuning to low the engine power will get low ??
Could anyone tell me what wet stacking is?
I just picked up an old Perkins 4-107 attached to a 10kw generator, lots of smoke and would not start without the ether, I pulled the injectors and I am having them rebuilt, hopefully this will help it all around!
They always need heater plug even after 20 minutes stopped but with a good manifold heater no matter how cold they always start reliably
Thank you!
Looking to purchase a 04 Freightliner Classic XL l. The truck has C15, 475 Cat Engine. The truck has been sitting for 8 months, what problems should I look out for?
Toyota recommended a 5w30 premium fuel economy engine oil, but do you think 15k40 is better for winter as it is lower in viscosity ? thanks
15w40 is a higher viscosity
helpful video
Josh, just this morning 01/30/2020 i ran into an owner operator having trouble starting is truck. I asked him to crank the engine it was turning with good power, told him sound like the injectors where not supplying enough fuel to the engine he loosen the supply line to fuel pump cracked engine good supply and he changed both fuel filters, still didn't start. after a while he said to he remembers having this same problem. so he started to pull on the wire assembly from battery that leads to engine, and just like that it started right away, you think it might be a bad wire that leads to sensors to E.C.M. I'll stop there. thx
I just had my 6.0 2005 F-250 Diesel New head gaskets replaced. No new heads but every thing but not the turbo. That was just rebuilt. Runs good BUT hard to start every morning. Upsetting. They will not help me fix the problem. How do you get the compression air racial repaired?
My dad has a powerstroke 6.0 and he uses 15w-40 for his oil. I told him to switch to 5w-40 for easier starting but he’s stuck on 15w-40. Would you make the switch or stay with 15w-40? The lowest temps we see here is -12c but it’s usually around 0c. Thanks for your time and input
At those temps I’d favour 5W/40 for sure.
What would you consider be the issue on a diesel engine that starts cold in 1-2 cranks, but needs 20+ cranks when warm?
I know this is an old comment, but this may be some knowledge to a future reader.
Cold air is more condensed than warmer air, this means more air particles can be crammed together in a given area. This is due to them moving slower and taking up less room.
This means in cold environments you are having excess air in the cylinder when the atomized diesel goes to detonate. The air to fuel ratio is different with having more air than normal compared to warm temperatures.
So if you are having no issues in the cold, but having issues in warmer conditions I would start with a bigger air intake, and see if that allows for better mixture.
I could expand further but I’m not trying to write 10 page essay, that no one may read.
TLDR, it is starving for air.
Good Day. What gives an engine torque. some engines come with the same horse power but different torque settings. Detroit series 60 comes with 500 HP and 1650 torque. I wish that to be
500--1850
I have 2006 vw sharan 1.9tdi my engine doesn't start immediately the crancking seems normal but it takes like 4 to 5 seconds to start up even if the engine is hot.. i checked that battery it's good as new could be a starter failing! I am not good with mechanical problems.. but i did a computer diagnos and doesn't show me any kind of engine or sensor defect
I had a bad exhaust gas temp sensor go bad on my paccar mx13. Temps would get almost 1,000 degrees and not settle down. Replaced it got the power back and fuel mileage back as well 😎
Get rid of that Paccar
Thanks man,
This is why a 335 cummins I drove in the early 70s was sweat, it had a compression release you could spin that sucker even with a weak battery and fire it up quick when you released the handle.
hi. i have a c7.1 engine on a cat 323d2l excavator which does not start without spraying cold start into the air inlet. what could be the problem
I hard a hard start on my 1kzte. After I had my injectors serviced. One of the fuel lines of the pump was sweating a tiney bit. Couldn't tighten the connector anymore. Took the connector off, sprayed with carby cleaner. No longer sweating.
The coolant diverter valve on a mx Cat. Runs fine but light off and on.
Arthanza McGhee I have the same issue, put a new one on and it still does it. I was told by my mechanic that is in my wiring harness
As usual good informative video bud.
