We take a look behind the scenes at Trek's USA factory. As one of the only major brands still making carbon fiber frames in the USA, this was an incredible opportunity to find out just how carbon fiber is transformed from big rolls of fiber into finished bikes like the Madone.
Also, the factory is home to Trek's paintshop, where many all of their Project One bikes are painted up.

Mine Trek Domane has a sticker on it "made in Taiwan", which I guess is another town in Wisconsin.
hahahaha
Lee Hargreaves as a Wisconsin resident I can confirm Taiwan is indeed a town
It is! XD I live here
my 2012 madone has " designed in waterloo wisconsin " displayed on the chain stay . Where it was actually made is not stated but I would bet Taiwan and maybe on giant street . Regardless, I am very happy with my bike .
lane lon --> My 2011 Madone frame was made in WI by the engineers, great one of a kind bike w/lots of soul. My Trek dealer said that program doesn't exist anymore.
For all those who asked below, the Lance Section of the museum is located in the Nurse's office by the first aid kit with all the other medical supplies.
Lmao
The bike at the end was a beauty.
My wife and I toured the Trek factory back in 2014. We thorougly enjoyed the tour. We'll be going back in spring of 2018.
What about the barn, Tom? What about the barn?!
Yes, the barn. Where was it?
We demand a follow-up piece titled Back to the Barn. C'mon, man, you can't get our hopes up like that and then ride off on your shiny new bike without a trip to the barn.
It is a quotation from somewhere?

Nice work on the Project One Madone design!
just bought my first trek 7.2. love it!
What a treat, to be ale to see the inside of the Trek factory. I am amazed you guys had so much access to the Trek factory. I'm not sure if I missed it or maybe GCN has never done a walk through the Campagnolo factory but I would be delighted to see that video.
awesome video. love the color on the bike Tom
Well done.
Real flame 🔥 super cool paint job
This is absolutely amazing. Trek number one.
Cool... From the video it looks like the barn build bikes included the 850... Trek's first Rough Terrain bicycle. I got one when they first hit the catalog in 1983 and I still have it! There were no bicycle trails back then... I've had a lot of adventures with that bike including a 3,140 mile self-supported bicycle trip with front and rear panniers mounted on it. I still ride the bike and did so just 2 days ago. I've had a lot of bicycles over the years (have 5 now) and it is safe to say I've had my greatest adventures to date on a Trek 850 and a Trek 520.
My older best friend bought an 870 in the 80s with a special speckled paint job! He was hit by a car a month after he bought it. Trek only had 850s. So he bought an 850.
Those 850s and 870s where lugged and butted works of craftsmanship completely MADE in the 🇺🇸!!!
He said the 870 was absolutely better but the 850 is/was great. He still has the 850 in his garage.
R.I.P. USA manufacturing 😤😤😤
Would be nice to have a disclaimer that this is only a fraction of the bikes TREK builds. Most of their bikes are actually built by GIANT in China and Taiwan.
Project One mate! Says it all
All they do is design, don't manufacture anything, that's contracted out to lowest bidder.
and thank god for that. Minium wage workers in the USA dont produce any better products than minium wage workers in asia. In fact I think the asians do a better job. as long as the manufacturing methods and standards are set by someone with a clue its all good
@@mammutit It's complicated. Taiwan and Japan, yes (but as you say, if you watch the PinkBike videos, the Taiwanese shops are full of American and Japanese engineers to make sure it gets done right). China, India, Korea, Vietnam, Philippines, no. Malaysia, depends on the product. Just having had to deal with that having worked for a company that had manufacturing plants and machine shops in China and Wisconsin, we could tell which batches were from the Chinese shop on sight, and the US made parts were already pretty bad (but the US shop has 5 machinists and the Chinese shop had 50, the company is trying to outsource but can't find Chinese machinists who can make the parts to spec). Other than that, just comparing Japanese to Taiwanese Hondas, or Japanese to Malaysian, Chinese, or Philippine Shimano or Seiko parts there is a very obvious difference in fit and finish as well as precision. On the flip side, most HD parts are made in China, only assembly is done in the US, and the Chinese parts are better than the US parts, but HD never really made reliable motorcycles with a good F&F in the first place.
Florian Kneidl: You’re shitting me. I’m so sick of China.
Great job lasti really enjoyed this factory tour
This is awesome! Just got a Speed Concept earlier this year and it's been great!
Thats the first time I've literally exclaimed out loud at a youtube video- the unveling of your bike Tom, sweeeet!

It chanced a little bit when I visited it 22 years ago. I am jealous of your Project One Bike, even the colour scheme is fine.

Love my new Madone - Working at that facility would be my dream job!
Congrats Tom on the new bike!
What a souvenir, I'm jealous.
Nice tour. So Super so beautiful bike. Wishing wishing someday have one. In my dreams. hehehe. thank you TREK
Well done, Tom! Well presented, and nice ProjectONE too!
The look of pure joy at 10:57
what a classy job to be a bike frame crafter. thanks for the video
Great vid Lasty, nice bike too.
I rolled on Belarusian Smart, Russian Stels and German Cube. Now I have a Trek 920. I caught my beast. Just sit down and try. Trek immediately became my body. It is necessary to try. I could not choose the frame size from 3 sizes and 5 different Cube models, but when I was not trying on the Trek I drove 10 miles until I realized that I was already going. He's just like legs. You go, you go - it's just as simple, steady and familiar. It can not fall if you do not fall standing on his feet.
Hello Sir Tom, Good day...what a nice bike ever...i wish i have that brand of bike someday. More power to your Channel.
wow superb bikes
Lovely bike, Lasty. Enjoy!
The best looking Malone I've seen yet. Well done
An excellent video Tom!
Excellent video Tom. So that's where my Trek 1.2 alpha came from.
ivan yallop --> Doubt it, your 1.2 alpha is a rebranded Huffy.
My Marlin 8 has a made in Cambodia sticker on it. Lots of bikes in Cambodia. Very nice bike.
Tom, your bike is gorgeous!
great job on the paint Tom.
AWESOME SETUP FROM TREK BICYCLES FACTORY.
Nice one Lasty
As a huge Trek fan, this video is amazing. I know it's 6 years old but still cool to see. 👍🏼👍🏼
Amazing stuff
Great video, thanks.
Fan of all bikes.
Lasty has really gotten good on camera--and clearly enjoying it. Nice tour!
Super great show! I just ordered a TREK Emonda and I'm glad I did. Tom, u are the man!
Very nice looking bike!
Awesome man..
great video, love it.
That was freaking cool man. I want a souvenir too lol
Nice bike Tom, good job👍👏
That is one lovely looking bike
Enjoy your new Steed. Hopefully you stopped around in the area to sample the our local Grub and Brews....Cheers
I like the brick red highlights.
Very very very nice Madone
pretty nice souvenir
All of those bikes are beautiful and I dig that Trek accommodates their customers' frame-paint schemes, but that bike with fiber pipes in chrome lugs would be very cool as a daily driver. I'm thinking about how I'd want it painted--maybe metal-flake blue like my Sting-Ray back in the Sixties :)
Nice one Lasty!
Love your bike
Cool and calm i like the ride.
Great VDO. I like Trek bike.
Trek.. La mejor bicicleta del mundo
Madone is the best!! Great video
nice paint job.
Omg I want one of these bikes
Beautiful bike you spec'd

Tom, you are the best GCN presenter...
That was a sweet looking bike I'll give you guys that!
I'm so jealous right now!! And awesome paint job! I love it!
i wouldn't get so jealous, most likely only a loan bike until GCN feature some other brand for the crew to use
agree on the paint tho !
+altern8ive plus it has SRAM eTap on it!!
that.. i hadn't noticed ! :)
Daaang. That's a good looking bike lasty!
good information brother
The main trek plant is in the east and is shared with specialized and pinnacle etc
Tony Parkin --> It's called Giant.
Enjoy your new bike
Sweet Bike!!! Tom
Sorprendente 😎
Very nice
BOM TRABALHO!!!
That is a very nice Souvenir from Wisconsin. Better than a Brett Favre bobble-head.
OMG this bike is so sick .. that red and black version looks sooooo good. Jealous ! :D
Awesome & Thanks :)
Si cool suvenir man ah. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
O MY GOD..... THAT BIKE!!!!
Madone, Domane, Emonda, Same 6 letters. What's next, Meando? A badly handling touring bike. New range of 3 bikes that must be possessed. Dameon, Omen DA (Dura Ace only) and Daemon. How about a biodegradable bike called the Made On, followed by the date of manufacture. Totally disappears after 5 years.
lol
.
Probably one of their models would be called Damn EO someday
Or the one made without alcohol "No Mead."
Lol meando
That's a nice bike, Dam!
Trek is the best
