The biggest thing to take away from this video is that most of the ppl reviewing them have these items gifted to them. They aren’t buying every single one of them and breaking the bank. It’s easier for them to recommend the items when they aren’t actually spending the coins.

this is the biggest thing that tiktokkers will ignore. most of these products are also more expensive than they should be BECAUSE of how much is sent to influencers for free

Exactly! And that’s why I don’t take reviews or recommendations seriously if they don’t state they bought it with their own money!

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm-neither hot nor cold-I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. (Revelation 3:15-18) you cannot live for this world and not try to stop sinning (being cold) and only believing in God(hot) without turning from sin or sinning and saying God will forgive you after or not read the Bible, pray, worship/obeying God. Which is being a lukewarm. If we are neither cold or hot, God will spit us out his mouth.

kpop took of in 2019, skincare took of in 2020 due to the pandemic and people being so indooors hence no need for makeup.
Skincare also mainly took over due to the rise in body positivity and the no makeup trend.
I think douyin skincare really set it of due to the viral douyin skincare that was going viral on tiktok in 2020 and the glass skin look which is from china but people will obviously say its korean...even though its chinese .

I think it goes even deeper than aesthetic; I think it's consumerism, influence culture and above all a *status symbol* to have these products just chillin on your dresser/vanity table or in tiktok videos. just like with food, we all eat with our eyes first, but I think part of it is that the influencers themselves are very conventionally attractive and that gives us a false sense of "if I buy these, I can be hot/pretty too" just like with Victoria's Secret. It's about status, desirability and likeability. It's hard to relate to these people anymore because many of us are having to choose between groceries or a phone or even a place to sleep and having these products makes people feel some sort of normalcy but I think that's a different topic for a different day. Welcome to my TedTalk.

that last part hit different. internalizing the fact that none of us are immune to influence or marketing helps fight against that draw toward consumerism for comfort. not only does it hurt the planet, but it hurts those who can't really afford it the most.

heavy on the idea of it being a status symbol! honestly i didn’t realize it until i saw that i was doing it to - i tended to put my more expensive items out front so they can be seen. but this is so much worse for influencers because their whole brand is to influence and make others believe their life is glamorous 😭

I think the self care thing mainly came from lockdown, I remember when selling there was a big boom in self care baskets & stuff because people couldn’t go out & buy it themselves. my issue with glow recipe is that their selling point is food stuff (like avocado, watermelon, etc) Your skin cannot extract food nutrients. Only your intestine can and that's only after your saliva, teeth, and stomach have broken the food down. Therefore, based on this premise, I don't think that they're worth the money. I have experience formulating skincare products and I gotta say, most of the products out there have little to no benefit for the skin. For example, the popular Mielle rosemary and peppermint hair oil contains cheap carrier oils that are not similar to the natural oil your hair produces. I have been making my own rosemary and peppermint oil which stimulates blood flow and directly contributes to hair growth. Rosemary oil is as efficient as minoxidil, a popular hair growth agent, and it's one of the few oils that dermatologists recommend for hair health and growth. Also; 10:53; Extracts have no scent, so the scent cannot come from the extract. The dew drops, contain a large amount of fragrance which is not good for the facial skin. I would recommend people to do their research and learn more about skincare because TONS of brands are literally deceiving us.

However, one thing that I've noticed is a prominent theme of either being "rich" or "aesthetic" when many of the products people slap on their faces don't work. I've seen probably hundreds of GURWMs and nighttime routines full of expensive, Sephora products that are completely useless and unnecessarily expensive. It's not even a routine for their skin, it's a routine to show off how much money they have to the public.

As someone who has sensitive and chapped lips, I can attest that the Clarins lip oil lives up to the hype. I've been using it for a while and it really made a difference on my lips. In my humble opinion, the Elasti Cream is DEFINITELY worth the hype. I got a small $22 bottle of it for Christmas last year and haven’t even gotten 1/2 through it (since I use it pretty sparingly). Sure, the bigger bottle is a little bit more on the pricey side of things for body cream but it’s worth it. As a woman who owns BOTH BR540 and Ariana Grande’s Cloud, I can honestly say that it reminds me more of Cloud than BR540. BR540 is a very woodsy, mature scent and Cloud is very much sweet and girly. Elasti Cream has a lot of sugary notes in it, and sugary notes always constitute for some people claiming it smells bad or like plastic. It’s all up to everyone’s personal preference on scents, and also their body chemistry- since no two scents will smell the same on different individuals. My favorite way to wear the Elasti Cream is to add it with my unscented aloe Vera gel for extra hydration. Then I go in with a few sprays of Cloud, Pink Sugar by Aquolina, the Elasti Cream’s matching perfume (Cheirosa ‘68). And sometimes, if I’m feeling especially crazy, I’ll layer on Island Vanilla by Pacifica. 😍 This combination of layers is POWERFUL and long lasting… I’ve literally had strangers and coworkers stop and ask me what I’m wearing because I smell so good!! 🤭 I only do this routine if I’m feeling feminine and cute, otherwise I’m breaking out the musk and earth notes. 😂

if you really want a product with hyaloronic acid, niacinamide, salicylic acid, and any of those other active ingredients The Ordinary has such great affordable serums. i have dry skin and use the hyaloronic acid serum and it’s SO GREAT for hydration, my sister is a diver and she uses it to help with the effect of chlorine and she also loves it! its more about ingredients than package with skin care and makeup

I try to only buy products that I absolutely love. I like to think of my home as a curation of me. Things that represent who I am, things I love, etc. I do this with beauty products a lot. I hate having clutter.

For the Glow dew drops, id recommend to use it if you have regular/dry skin. I used it and it was okay but would go for something cheaper. For my oily skin girls, it may not be a go to. I gave my cousin the dew drops and she said it mixed pretty badly with her foundation because of her oily skin. You don’t have to listen to me. Everyone has their own experiences💗

Gisou products in korea are 80,000₩ to 130,000₩ so like 70$-115$. If it's something amazing it's way too expensive... But honestly there's only so much you can add to a bottle of oil so even 30$ for the lip oil seems extreme honestly

in my experience of dealing with acne, the best thing you can do for your skin is go to dermatologist. I only buy 3 products consistently by her recommendation (plus make up remover and oven the counter treatments). they all can be bought in a pharmacy, price is reasonable and my skin cleared up pretty quickly. now we are working on post acne and uneven skin tone.
and keep in mind, that DIY treatments can make your skin worse, and natural ingredients can cause allergies

I love your personality, your editing style, and you are absolutely stunning! As a “mature” (old, late 30s) lady, I take my time with deciding on purchases. I filter through reviews and I weigh the opinions of content creators who bought the items themselves heavier than ones who were gifted the products for sure. When I saw SJD 68 on your thumbnail, I had to comment and say I went on a journey with that scent. I didn’t get the hype at first. It was off putting to me when I first sprayed it. I didn’t like it at all. Kinda like BBW In the Stars, I didn’t get it. However, it grew on me. My nose started to appreciate the notes and now I crave the scent. I use it once in a while to savor it and layer it with other body care fragrances. I only trust fragrance reviews that stress the importance of trying it first on your skin before you buy it because it is so wasteful and expensive to blind buy before testing out a perfume. Never buy into hype and make sure you really want and/or need a product before spending more than you have to. Also… it is true that the scent of SDJ body creams project like perfumes. They’re worth the money. I don’t get a ton of compliments when I wear a fragrance but whenever I have, it was mostly when I wore a Sol de Janeiro body cream and/or the mist layered with it or with another scent. The pricing is fair for the quality you get.

My skin is glowy and plum and people been asking me what i use.
Honestly with the rise of these skincares, the prices are high as well. I would suggest just buy luxury ones with just the same price or even little bit more( you get more and even more luxurious ingredients)
I use mostly chanel or dior with a bit of shiseido and cheap korean ones.
And i must say they do better job. And im more secure to know that my face with age better.
My mom has been using a lot of chanel or dior in her skincare and she has such a great skin until this day. So i know it works.
But we dont know how these influencer products are and how they will sit in the skin for years and years to come.

my unpopular opinion on the dew drops: I loved them so much they make your makeup go on super smoothly etc. BUT the pump would not pump out the last bit of product, and because it is a thick gel texture I couldn't shake it out either I probably lost like 1/6 of the product from this which I was not vey happy about.

I got a trial gisou kit that had the hair mask, oil, and perfume. The oil is nice but the bottle leaks even when standing up somehow, the perfume is just a plain slightly sweet powdery floral scent so if you really like than maybe get it. The hair mask was my favorite i have really fine hair and it was perfectly moisturizing but didnt weight my hair down. I'd probably never buy these at full price tho maybe the hair mask as a treat.

i have the rare beauty liquid and solid blush and the lip oil and i love all the products, they’re very pigmented, especially the liquid blush. i use the solid one when i’m rushing because it blends extremely well with the finger (i would recommend the liquid one more tho cause it gives you a fresher look).
my only criticism is that you need to blend the liquid blush quickly because otherwise it’ll stain your skin.
and the lip oil is for my taste too lightweight, i like to have a thick formula but that’s personal preference. i also got a light shade but i think i would like a darker one a lot more. only other thing is that over time, the oil builds up and the edges of your lips and it’ll look as though you applied lip liner (essentially its not a bad look, i would just like it to be even instead of it going to the edges)
