I am old enough to be your grandmother, and while I've set my hair in rollers probably half a million times throughout my life, I learned quite a few tips from your video--for example, not to press the ends hard and tight against the Velcro, which is exactly what I did all this years, thinking that more "grab" was better. Thank you!
@@lisamartin1758 For me, three main reasons: the shape of roller curls is different from that of ironed curls, and sometimes that's the look I'm after; my hair turns out way more voluminous after a roller-set; and I find using rollers and minimal-to-no heat more conducive to the health of my hair. I rarely need a deep conditioner or a "repairing mask"...because there's no damage to fix!
my hair only holds heatless curls, heat lasts five minutes at most. i also have PE at 7 in the morning when it’s super foggy so i need something heavy hold

@@tama3442 I'm sure you mean well, but I think that posting the above text is inappropriate in a place where a response is requested regarding this nice interesting instruction that has taken a lot of effort. I wish you great day !! 🌸
Wow. There are hundreds of velcro roller videos on UA-cam but the youtubers just do what works for them without letting you know much about it. This one really really makes sense. I never understood before why some people place the roller with the ends facing up while some do not in the horizontal section. Everything is clear now. Thank you!
As you said, understanding what I'm doing is much better than simply following a tutorial and not knowing why I don't achieve the same result. You're a great teacher!
I LOVE how clearly you break down and explain things in your videos, I’m pretty hopeless at styling my hair but with your videos I feel like they help me so much just because I understand the process so much better after watching them. Thank you!
I’ve recently just discovered velcro rollers and I love them! I use them on slightly damp hair as I’m trying to avoid heat and yellowing of my growing out gray hair. My hair is short to medium length. I got so much lasting body in my hair. Thank you for all the wonderful tips!
Lifesaving (or hair-saving) video. I legit thought velcro rollers were meant to be used on wet hair, and have slept in them many times! Thank you for educating us that desperately need it! 😁
I am a hairstylist myself of 30 years and I enjoy watching your videos. I love that you explain things. I talk to my clients like this and showed my clients how to use a velcro rollers. I have many sizes and show them.
This was so helpful! I’ve been watching videos all morning and feel like they were more “look how pretty I am” and less ACTUALLY showing me what to do and why. Seriously - this was EXACTLY what I needed. Thanks!
Kayley, could you please do a video on which shampoo/conditioner ingredients are bad for your hair and maybe give suggestions on which brands are good, also please include drugstore options?
This was super interesting, but I was wondering if you’d ever do a video on how to style hair for people who have androgenetic alopecia or other conditions that thin and miniaturise the hair? I’ve lost half of my hair over the last 10 years and trying to figure out how to style my hair whilst treating it gently, and not damaging it further, and what the best products and stuff are is impossible and none of the hair stylists I’ve tried seem to know what to suggest.
Have you tried the spray hair powders, such as Style Edit? They will disguise your scalp. They come in a few colors. Also, what about increasing your estrogen by incorporating more soy in your diet with tofu and soy milk. Not sure if that would work, but seems it might counteract the androgen.
@@Cherrysmith2809 yeah, I do use them sometimes, but they’re a pain on a daily basis and if anyone touches your hair, they get the stuff on their hands. I take anti androgen pills and coincidentally eat a lot of soy. Sadly, it’s slowed the rate, but not done anything to stop it.
I added folic acid and iron supplements. So sorry that you have this. Mine finally grew back. Hopefully yours will to. Watch your diet and eat healthy.
@@LydiaM I know this is old, but I have low estradiol that I suspect has caused some hair loss, and I thought you might want to know this: Soy contains phytoestrogens that are weaker than estradiol, so if you're eating a ton of it, those phytoestrogens may be suppressing your own estradiol production while giving less of an estrogenic effect than estradiol. Many other phytoestrogens that you're likely to encounter in food are weaker than estradiol as well. If you are worried about your estradiol level and are eating more soy than the average person, you could try decreasing your soy intake for a while and see if it makes any difference. The only caveat is that if your estradiol is significantly lower than it should be for reasons unrelated to phytoestrogen intake, the phytoestrogens could be helping by replacing what's not there, but it's also possible that they're still causing problems in that situation. (But I think if your level has been suppressed by your phytoestrogen intake, it may take some time after you stop eating the problem food for it to bounce back, so having some negative effects up front might not mean you'll contain to have them----I'm not sure about this part.) Consuming a diet with a lot of foods that contain significant numbers of phytoestrogens is definitely not bad (a lot of very healthy foods fall into that category), and some phytoestrogens are associated with a lower risk of certain cancers, but it's something to look into if you know you're eating a lot of those foods and you have a hormonal condition that may be aggravated by low estradiol.
the video I've been waiting for my ENTIRE life. This is the first time I understood what I needed to do to get my hair looking the way I wanted it to. I would really love more hair videos like this where you teach the principles behind techniques. thanks for this!!
This has to be the best video on using any kind of roller and how curling works. I've watched so many over the years and been so frustrated that I can't do it right but this video explains it so clearly using common sense. I am so glad I came across this and while I struggle with hair loss and fine hair I will try it on my hair to see if it can make my hair look more voluminous and stylish. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and insights!
I have rolled my hair for years and watched tons of hair tuts. This is by far the best educational video I've ever seen! Every detail was interesting, well demonstrated and useful . You have a new subscriber!

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it’s been two years since you released this video! I’m revisiting it today, but this CHANGED my hair game. Each aspect of my hair routine is from a different era of what I’ve learned from your videos, it’s wild. ❤❤
This is the best video I’ve seen on Velcro rollers. Thank you for breaking it down for people, like me, who have no idea what we are doing when it comes to our hair.
Well miss Kayley, you are a beautiful Lass. I'll explain why I LUV you're vid. I've had pixie cuts for well over half my life time. I'm 65 now. The scamdemic made me get real comfortable with cutting my own hair. Now that I'm retired I figure why pay salons big bucks to do a bad job with my hair when I can do it myself for free! :) I am growing my hair out but want some gentle loose curl framing my aging face. I just bought a set of velcro rollers & followed your tutorial...loving the new look for me. Thank you so much dear for making this vid. May many Blessings be yours.
I have just started to use Velcro rollers in the last few months and I never used a curling iron with them. I do have medium fine hair. I blow dry my hair and set it in the rollers while my hair is still hot from drying. Once all the rollers are in I blow my hair with the dryer on a low blow setting. I then let my hair cool while I do my makeup. When I take out the rollers it gives a volume straight look with the ends curled. I started to to this to save time and to try to use less heat on my hair, especially my ends that were braking from the iron use. I though this might help some people too.
Just recently decided I want to start styling my hair again instead of just a clip or a scrunchie in my hair. This video is very helpful especially since I grew up having my mom rolling my hair as a little girl. She went to cosmetology school long time ago. The advices that have been made helps with how she did it but still the basics is still there. By watching this reminded me that I do need a comb to section off the parts. When I would curl my hair with a curling iron I never understood how to get that certain kind of wave and curl I wanted. I’ve got my list of what else I need to start doing this on a given day. I wished I had came across your video first. I then would’ve rolled my hair differently. I started with dry hair and let it set for some time. I think I also would like to get some sponge rods as well.
wow i literally have had no idea how to curl my hair for 20 years and watching this one video I just learned literally everything I have been doing wrong lol feel like I just went to school!
I LOVE that you explain. Because some of us have a little bit of experience and we know, empirically, what does the thing we want to achieve. But you explain to us WHY. So that it makes sense, now, that it does not work when we do it almost-but-not-quite the same. As far as wishes if have. I am a huge fan of pinup style wet sets, which might be a bit far out of your wheelhouse. But I'd love your take on them. Your explanations (the on base, half base, off base was SUCH a lightbulb moment when it comes to wet sets), your suggestions for short/longer hair, your tricks to avoid frizz, your recommended tools, (okay maybe I just want to see you in polka dot pillow rollers. Sue me.) and your opinion on how damaging it is. Who knows, perhaps this could be a cool collab?!
You get more root lift & a longer lasting curl with rollers. I use foam because I wound a velcro one too tight & my hair got stuck in the velcro . Had to be cut out 😬
I had the same thought. I have used Velcro curlers many times and never pre-curled my hair. It seems redundant and time consuming. But to each his own.
@@loeschzone6876 Absolutely redundant a waste of time. the rollers will curl your hair plus you’re damaging your hair more by using heat on it before. makes no sense to me
I NEVER KNEW MOST OF THE RIGHT WAYS TO PUT ROLLERS! I basically learned from my grandmother and were talking about short no length hair. My hair is close to my butt. I thank you SO MUCH for all you do in helping all of us who do there hair incorrectly. 👏👏👏👏
I appreciate your time informing, explaining and demonstrating how to properly use velcro rollers. You have no idea how much I have struggled to style my textured hair. You are absolutely amazing!
Please keep making these type of videos. So informational. I neve see anything as in-depth and well-rounded in this category on Youtibe. You're it, girl!
I’ve never (thin, fine hair) had a problem with frizzy ends, but when my hair was mid-back length, I used perm end papers to help them not tangle. I also use a root lift spray, roll my hair, and hit it with the blow dryer for about 20-25 seconds. Start to finish is appx 20-30 minutes. I like Velcro rollers to give a blow-out look since I can’t do a decent blow-out (or wrangle a curling iron without burning my forehead, neck, ears lol). Great tips! Really practical information and tips.
I have used velcro rollers on and off for decades and I learned a lot from your video. Thanks for showing me how to keep my look modern while still getting the volume I want from the rollers. Great video!
I still have a set of these from the 90s. Tried them a few times, always became a tangled mess...I probably made every mistake you mentioned! I kept them for my daughters, but I think I’m going give them another go, following your excellent, thorough instructions. They might end up back in my hair arsenal! Thanks!!!
Same. I'm very guilty of using them to comb my ends and also rolling my very fine hair reeallly tight. Then getting frustrated with the tangles, frizz, and lack of volume at the crown. Oh, and as a child of the 90s, that first Velcro roller set was perfection before she ever took a brush to it. Lol
This is the first video I have seen of yours! I've been curling my hair and did casual work in salons when I was younger for years & can honestly say I got more fabulous helpful info & tips about curling my hair out of this video than all that experience combined 🤣
Thank you so much! I have hot rollers (not velcro rollers) but all the tips/tricks are super helpful to that as well! From your "curl anatomy" - I now know how to place the rollers on my head to get the look I want which is something other people miss in explaining, so thank you for going that extra mile in giving us those details.
My favorite way to use velcro rollers is this way: I'll wash my hair in the evening, put in leave in conditioner, let it get to a damp stage, add hair serum/oil, lightly spray with a conditioner water, then I'll put it in a loose higher ponytail. I prefer using those big scrunchies for this. Then with my fingers, I'll slide them into the crown area and sides to loosen those areas as well. Then depending on what size of curl I want, I'll either use 6 large rollers for a blow out look, 6 medium for a wavy look, then 8-9 small roller for bouncy curls. The medium is my favorite. I'll split my ponytail into the amount of sections required then roll up each section and clip them. It'll sort of look like a bun by the time you're done. I'll then again lightly spray with conditioner water, wrap my hair in a head scarf and go to bed. Because the curlers are on top of the head, they don't bother you while sleeping. Then, I'll do my makeup the next morning, take off the scarf, then gently unroll the curlers the same way I rolled them up. If needed, I'll either use my fingers or a wide tooth comb to set my part and smooth things out. Voila! Super easy overnight hairstyle that has worked every time for me. Tips: Don't twist your hair while unrolling. Just unroll it straight down and as long as your hair wasn't super wet when you went to bed, then it'll be dry hold it's shape. Then you can flip, scrunch, gently shake your hair to fit your style. And my hair is thick and down to my waist. As long as you don't twist your hair while unrolling, they won't tangle. These aren't the same as those plastic hot rollers where you can unravel them like that. Of course, every hair type is different and you may get different results. But for me, this is the easiest and least damaging way to get perfect hair.
@@zeehuss7275 Hi! I don't see why you shouldn't be able to. I have tried the same method with plastic smooth rollers and still got the same results. I have also not even used rollers at all and just wrapped each section my hair around three fingers then rolled under in the same way (this is actually the method I've been using more since I wrote this comment). You might have to try it a few times to find which roller size is more flattering for your hair. And you might have to wear a hair net or scarf to keep the rollers from moving around. You could probably even add a lightweight mousse to your hair before rolling if you need that extra hold. Just depends on your hair :). Hope it works out!
Thanks@@CaliGurl254 One more question.. did you find velcro rollers damaging to your hair? as some people in comment section are saying they pull out the hair and cause split ends..
@@zeehuss7275 in my own experience, they were only damaging if I tried to yank them out or tried twisting them while unrolling. If I gently unrolled them, the same way I rolled them up, they came out with no problems and no damage. The biggest problem I have with them is that I feel they make my hair more frizzy as opposed to using smooth rollers or the finger rolling method I mentioned.
Withing first like 2min, I had shamefully realized I made EVERY mistake w/my velcro rollers! No wonder i hated em! Lol! Thk u sooo much for this! Life & Hair Saving!!!
Jam-packed! LOVE these hair technique videos. More please! Great to see you, medium hair, and your sister, long hair. Would also love to see a shorter hair pal join to share any differences in placement, technique, etc. Thank you! This will be on repeat for sure. The content here is amazing and so comprehensive!
Thanks for a great video! I have waist-length thick hair that I damp-set on 2-inch velcro rollers (I don't use heat to dry so it takes several hours). I'll add that to prevent tangles it really helps to start at the very end when you roll up. Resist the temptation to start in the middle and wrap the ends around before continuing to roll to the scalp. I've gotten some terrible snarls that way! I also use a clip to hold the strands together about halfway up as I'm rolling and get a smoother roll that way without a bunch of flyaways. 2-inch rollers don't give me much curl, but they do a GREAT job of eliminating frizz and make it smooth and bouncy.
WOW!! THANK YOU x 10000! I bought velcro rollers maybe 5 years ago and then threw them away because I didn't know what the heck I was doing and couldn't get it to look decent. So excited to try it again!
🩷Thank you, this was the best tutorial as Im really new to ANY type of roller & my first set was these velcro ones. My first attempt was a DISASTER & they've sat in my closet since!😄
I remember using velcro rollers about 20 years ago (I'm 42 now). And we used them to get curls without heat. My hair was shoulder length and I would put them in my damp hair and let them air dry for about 2 hours. I would do this at night, making my curls last about 2-3 days. My hair curled really well, as I do have natural wavy/curly hair. Just wondered what the benefit is to curling the hair while using a non heat method is? I don't have my rollers anymore, don't really miss them. But nice to see them making a comeback.
I recently tried a new treatment which gave my hair SO much body, and so SMOOTH!! I'd been thinking I needed the old brush rollers, and wondering if they were still in existance!! I think I'll try these!! (Treatment?? Here: 1:2 ration coconut oil-I warm it up a bit, and aloe vera gel. Apply to roots and ends. Leave on under shower cap for 30 min. Wash, condition as normal. I also follow up with 3 tbsps apple cider vinegar in 16 oz warm water. Leave on a minute or so, and final rinse. YOU WON"T BELIEVE IT!!!) (BTW, this video comes up under my husband. I am a 60+ y.o. woman) ALL the treatment/products I've ever used, and there have been hundreds, can't compare to this.
Remember the wire type with the brush bristles coming out? You used a plastic pick to hold them. My grandma rolled her hair in these and wrapped a headscarf over them for the entire day. Back then, they'd set their hair once a week! They'd backcomb the heck out of it and spray it with a hairspray that was more like shellac! It'd stay all week!
this was by far the most useful video i've ever seen on this topic, so clear and detailed. Question: could you use the velcro rollers without using the curling iron? would that still work? I prefer to use heatless options
Love your video! I have been using Velcro rollers for years and the I have a tip for you. I like healthy hair, so instead of using heat I roll my curlers on damp to wet hair and get a very long lasting curl! The 2nd day is best for me! Give it a try and experiment! Thank you for sharing!
This was so great. Thank you! I just recently chopped my VERY long hair into a slightly longer length than yours but with MANY layers and no bangs. My stylist used like 9 different round brushes to create and set the style he did the day I chopped it and I just don’t have the need to buy the brushes to create it but I do have plenty rollers. My first go with them was excellent. I had the exact lift and volume I wanted but I made the mistake of not doing anything to the bottom length of my hair and only rolled the layered area, which is from the front to the apex essentially. What it left me with, was beautiful volume and a lot of bounce but because my length was left straight it looked like I had a mullet. I panicked because I didn’t have time to play around! Lol I ended up getting out my wand and curing the length and added some curls to the layers to blend it but it didn’t work that well to leave my hair down for the evening, I ended up in a half up half down situation that looked lovely but I’ve been kinda bummed with the entire cut since (for about a week now) this and not really motivated to try again because I convinced myself I gave myself a mullet haha. This video was just want I needed. The science behind the roller and a few options to get the most out of them. Thank you for taking your time to share with everyone, you’ve just gained a curious and thankful follower. Xo ❤️
I still use Velcro rollers after many, many years. Also use a curling iron on each section right before rolling. Thanks for the tips on frizzy ends. That sometimes happens to my hair. Love your video.
What products did you use right before putting rollers in? Some kind of spray oil? 1st time watching you. You are amazing!!! So kind!! I just bought a set of rollers today. They were hard to find. Thank you Walgreens. Please let me know what the names of the products. Thanks!!!

I love these hair master classes!! The more info the better! SO interesting!! Would love to see some videos on hair treatments/masks/etc. Since you use so much heat on your hair (like me lol), would love to learn more about what you use to maintain healthy hair! And what can be done at home!
This was a very good video - so much information & helpful. Despite it being a longer youtube video - I sat and actually watched the full thing, no skipping ahead, entertaining throughout! I like that you broke down the reasons why you do certain things and the outcome you get from them. I will remember all these tips on my next roller adventure!
Thank you, this is brilliant. I’m a disaster with hair. These tips are a game changer. I have wavy frizzy hair, so I did a quick semi dry with styling lotion, then sectioned my hair (OMG brilliant) and used my curling hair dryer thingy to heat the hair and give it a bit more drying. Popped the curl in, making sure not to drag the ends thru the Velcro (again, brilliant, so guilty of that…) and I’m now letting it dry. I have a full set of neat and tidy rollers in my hair. I’m now off to get my outfit ready, will give it a bit of heat diffuser dryer time again, and do makeup while it cools off. LOVE this tutorial. And I was able to customize the curl patter because in understand the “base.” Fab. Really. ❤🙏
Thank you for the information! You always find a way to make the information easy to understand. Too its helpful that you have long and short hair examples. Love your channel and hair styles!
When using heat protectant, how long after it dries do you have for it to still adequately protect your hair from the heat? It takes me a long time to heat style my hair (or I get distracted 😂) and if I put it all over from the beginning it could be up to an hour before I hit the last section!
I searched a whole lot for how to do my hair in rollers (I have velcro ones), but they really didn't explain anything besides showing the action of applying them... The fact that you explained the technical nerdy curl part of how and why they form using velcros is a BLESSING because now I know the logic behind it... THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤️❤️❤️😵
Used them for years, even though I was very gentle with them, clumps of hair used to stick to them, finally realized why my hair had thinned out over the years, NEVER AGAIN.
Okay dumb question… why do you use the iron and then the curlers? Just for the heat? I almost wonder why not just use a larger heat curler at that point to just do it once…. I’m sure I’m missing something…
I am old enough to be your grandmother, and while I've set my hair in rollers probably half a million times throughout my life, I learned quite a few tips from your video--for example, not to press the ends hard and tight against the Velcro, which is exactly what I did all this years, thinking that more "grab" was better. Thank you!
I dont get it if you gonna curl it why don't you just curl it with iron
@@lisamartin1758 For me, three main reasons: the shape of roller curls is different from that of ironed curls, and sometimes that's the look I'm after; my hair turns out way more voluminous after a roller-set; and I find using rollers and minimal-to-no heat more conducive to the health of my hair. I rarely need a deep conditioner or a "repairing mask"...because there's no damage to fix!

For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of GOD, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Romans 10:9
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
JESUS CHRIST can come anytime!

This was the ONLY in depth video on rollers I could find on the internet & Ive appreciated it so much
Wow. There are hundreds of velcro roller videos on UA-cam but the youtubers just do what works for them without letting you know much about it. This one really really makes sense. I never understood before why some people place the roller with the ends facing up while some do not in the horizontal section. Everything is clear now. Thank you!
Do I have hair rollers? No
Will I ever get them? Probably not.
But do I click on EVERY Kayley Melissa video as soon as I see it? Yes, of course
If you want to get some go to the dollar tree!! they usually have them!
Me too! I’ve never seen hair done this way. I thought it always had to be wet to roll.
I am a hairstylist myself of 30 years and I enjoy watching your videos. I love that you explain things. I talk to my clients like this and showed my clients how to use a velcro rollers. I have many sizes and show them.
That was like a masterclass in velcro rollers.
As the daughter of an "old fashioned" hairdresser I have done this for years but recently got a bit lazy! You've inspired me Kayley! Thank you.
My doctor checked my thyroid levels and they were normal. He suggested supplemental B vitamins so I’m trying that now. Hoping it helps.
(But I think if your level has been suppressed by your phytoestrogen intake, it may take some time after you stop eating the problem food for it to bounce back, so having some negative effects up front might not mean you'll contain to have them----I'm not sure about this part.)
Consuming a diet with a lot of foods that contain significant numbers of phytoestrogens is definitely not bad (a lot of very healthy foods fall into that category), and some phytoestrogens are associated with a lower risk of certain cancers, but it's something to look into if you know you're eating a lot of those foods and you have a hormonal condition that may be aggravated by low estradiol.
the video I've been waiting for my ENTIRE life.

Oh my goodness!!!!!
This video is exactly what I needed!!
You answered all my questions and did step by step.
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!!!!
I finally feel confident in trying the rollers again!!!
That first roller set gave me real 90s vibes, like Meg Ryan. Absolutely loved it 🥰😍
Yeah more like Mrs Goldberg as well.
Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it’s been two years since you released this video! I’m revisiting it today, but this CHANGED my hair game. Each aspect of my hair routine is from a different era of what I’ve learned from your videos, it’s wild. ❤❤
I tend to use pincurls on the bottom layers when I do roller sets.
This is a better lesson in velcro rollers than I got in my hairdressing course 😂
This is the best video I’ve seen on Velcro rollers. Thank you for breaking it down for people, like me, who have no idea what we are doing when it comes to our hair.
I've been doing this since I was a kid, I LOVE THEM. So glad everyone's catching on
Well miss Kayley, you are a beautiful Lass.
I think I also would like to get some sponge rods as well.
wow i literally have had no idea how to curl my hair for 20 years and watching this one video I just learned literally everything I have been doing wrong lol
feel like I just went to school!
I never heard of using a curling iron on the hair first I mean do you need the rollers if you’re gonna curl your hair with a curling iron?
You get more root lift & a longer lasting curl with rollers. I use foam because I wound a velcro one too tight & my hair got stuck in the velcro . Had to be cut out 😬
@@sarahholland2600 oof that sucks sorry girl!! whats your hair type, btw?
I had the same thought. I have used Velcro curlers many times and never pre-curled my hair. It seems redundant and time consuming. But to each his own.
@@loeschzone6876 Absolutely redundant a waste of time. the rollers will curl your hair plus you’re damaging your hair more by using heat on it before. makes no sense to me
I’m a hairstylist, this is redundant. The only time I’d do this is for a wedding updo.
Thank you so much!!! i never know how to do my hair and my mom never taught me
Please keep making these type of videos. So informational. I neve see anything as in-depth and well-rounded in this category on Youtibe. You're it, girl!

This has been SO helpful. Can't wait to try my first set of rollers. I was intimidated but now after this video, I'm excited.
Wow great job you two. I have never seen an in-depth lesson about hair rollers. You're a great teacher I was interested the entire way.
I feel like a pro after watching this video. Your meticulous coverage of everything rollers was top notch, thank you!
Lol
This is literally the most informative hair tutorial I have ever seen! Thank you so much!!
This is the first video I have seen of yours! I've been curling my hair and did casual work in salons when I was younger for years & can honestly say I got more fabulous helpful info & tips about curling my hair out of this video than all that experience combined 🤣
I am so grateful that is level of education is available for free online. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I have hot rollers (not velcro rollers) but all the tips/tricks are super helpful to that as well! From your "curl anatomy" - I now know how to place the rollers on my head to get the look I want which is something other people miss in explaining, so thank you for going that extra mile in giving us those details.
finally i found a video that went technical enough for me to understand how to be better, THANK YOU
My favorite way to use velcro rollers is this way:
I'll wash my hair in the evening, put in leave in conditioner, let it get to a damp stage, add hair serum/oil, lightly spray with a conditioner water, then I'll put it in a loose higher ponytail.
Tips:
Don't twist your hair while unrolling.
Hi Heather, Can you achieve the same results with sponge rollers, as I'm afraid velcro rollers wil pull my hair out ..
Thank you @@CaliGurl254 I'll definitely try the finger rolling method you mentioned. 💕
Withing first like 2min, I had shamefully realized I made EVERY mistake w/my velcro rollers! No wonder i hated em! Lol! Thk u sooo much for this! Life & Hair Saving!!!
First 10 minutes but same 😅
I have curly hair that I never wear straight or style in any manner that isn't my natural texture, but I still watched this entire video.
SAME 😂😂😂
SAME!!
me 4!
WOW!! THANK YOU x 10000! I bought velcro rollers maybe 5 years ago and then threw them away because I didn't know what the heck I was doing and couldn't get it to look decent. So excited to try it again!
I love the nerdy content! I love hair as an art to express myself through and learning about the science thats behind them is so much fun.
Yes! This Velcro set brings back memories of supermodels in the 90s. I too was wondering about how to use the roller for heatless (or low heat) styles
I am 71 and you have taught me soooo much for my thin hair to have more curl and volume. Thank you sooo much!
YOU WON"T BELIEVE IT!!!)
(BTW, this video comes up under my husband. I am a 60+ y.o. woman) ALL the treatment/products I've ever used, and there have been hundreds, can't compare to this.
I do this once/week
My grandma uses velcro rollers every week since I can remember. I always thought they were ancient hairdresser technology 😂
My mom still has hers from the 70's.
Except they didn’t use a curling iron on their hair first
I am still using my Velcro rollers. I’m not going to say how many years. on dry. Also use a curling iron before using the roller.
@MimiDidi those suckers were painful when my cousin and I played with our grandmother's rollers lol
Absolutely loved this video! Rollers are so confusing to me. I came into the video with so many questions and you answered all of them!
this was by far the most useful video i've ever seen on this topic, so clear and detailed. Question: could you use the velcro rollers without using the curling iron? would that still work? I prefer to use heatless options
^^
Get your hair almost dry naturally, then put rollers in. Then go over all rollers with a blow dryer. Works for me.
Love your video! I have been using Velcro rollers for years and the I have a tip for you. I like healthy hair, so instead of using heat I roll my curlers on damp to wet hair and get a very long lasting curl! The 2nd day is best for me! Give it a try and experiment! Thank you for sharing!
It’s like you read my freaking mind! I just bought some rollers last week and each time I’ve tried using them has been a fail 😅 thank youuuu!
Lol
I ended up getting out my wand and curing the length and added some curls to the layers to blend it but it didn’t work that well to leave my hair down for the evening, I ended up in a half up half down situation that looked lovely but I’ve been kinda bummed with the entire cut since (for about a week now) this and not really motivated to try again because I convinced myself I gave myself a mullet haha.
I love that you did a long hair example at the end!! Thank you!!
Girl you really rocked a Meredith Gray hairstyle here !!!! Love that
What products did you use right before putting rollers in? Some kind of spray oil? 1st time watching you. You are amazing!!! So kind!! I just bought a set of rollers today. They were hard to find. Thank you Walgreens. Please let me know what the names of the products. Thanks!!!
I loved this, never too much information, never! Please can you do a video on how to get Fergie's waves from Big Girls Don't Cry because i NEED TO KNOW
The brushing your ends with the velcro roller & how it can make it look frizzy is MINDBLOWING!!!
THANK YOU SSSSOOOO MUCH FOR THAT BIT OF KNOWLEDGE!!! 💗💗💗
Ok, but that second look was something I wanted how to do for ages. Thank you, Kayley!
What a thorough and informative video. I actually feel excited to use the Velcro rollers I bought a year ago. Hurray, and thank you for your extensive work!
i absolutely loved how educational this was! i’ve been starting to use more velcro rollers recently but it never came out the way i want it to but this video explained SOOO much! loved it. thank you so much!!!
As someone who goes down a rabbit whole of research when I’m learning something, i LOVE very little tip and trick you gave. So helpful and thorough
Loved this. Can we please get a Flexi rod guide?
Time stamps are brilliant. Thank you. I know a lot about rolling hair, have done for 33yrs, with Swisse rollers... new to velcro. So glad you were considerate. 😉🥰
I love these hair master classes!! The more info the better! SO interesting!! Would love to see some videos on hair treatments/masks/etc. Since you use so much heat on your hair (like me lol), would love to learn more about what you use to maintain healthy hair! And what can be done at home!
This is the most helpful roller video ive seen thank you so much!! the unicorn horn method to get more volume is a game changer!
I've always been so daunted by curling my hair in any way at all, this video has made it so much more approachable. Thank you for the info and advice!
THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤️❤️❤️😵
I really enjoyed the deep dive as always. It really helps the troubleshooting and the understanding. Thank you so much :)
Is it possible to do this same technique without using ANY heat at all? Will I have to leave in for longer or do you have any tips for no heat use?
Used them for years, even though I was very gentle with them, clumps of hair used to stick to them, finally realized why my hair had thinned out over the years, NEVER AGAIN.
This was the BEST tutorial I’ve ever watched on hair. Kudos!
THIS is the video I've always needed! I love velcro rollers but I fail so hard everytime!
Okay dumb question… why do you use the iron and then the curlers? Just for the heat? I almost wonder why not just use a larger heat curler at that point to just do it once…. I’m sure I’m missing something…
Would love a Kayley and Brad Mondo collab.
I'm blow-dryer impaired with long hair. Trying these for the first time with your helpful tutorial.
So very helpful! I love all the hair knowledge you provide us with!
