Doesn't this just create all the front curls to go one way and all the back curls to go the other way, though? I can imagine it looking a bit odd where the two come together...

I agree and it reminds me of some historical hair videos where they were trying to imitate that medieval woven ribbon hairstyle and they basically did this same style with a very long ribbon instead of robe tie!
Thank you so, so much. This is a complete game changer for me. Struggled to curl my hair effectively for YEARS. I own every curling appliance and product out there. Styist once described my hair as "aggressively straight" because it refuses to hold a curl for more than 10 mins no matter what. Have tried everything under the sun - then this! No product, no heat and I've had beautiful curls that held for 8 hours. Nothing short of a miracle!!! Absolute legend 🧡
My hair is very fine and when I do overnight curls it usually comes out frizzy and not defined. But this was perfect! It actually looked like hers did!
Best. Method. Ever. I do my hair every 3 days now because it lasts so long! I'm naturally wavy, so I use 2 satin scarves tied together to prevent frizz. I will probably never go back to curling with an iron everyday because this gives me so much more volume, even on day 2 and 3 hair. Thank you for this!
@@la-zx7iw I sleep on a satin pillowcase. I just pull my hair up over my head, no hair tie, just up. It isn't picture perfect day 2 or 3, but it still has nice texture and form.
@@jenniferrock2 I let it air dry probably 90% at least and then wrap it making sure it is as smooth across the scarves as possible. If I wrap it again without washing it, I just wrap it dry. I have a 2B/2C S wave naturally. If you are actually curly, like a 3A or more, I would say blow dry it as smooth as possible and then wrap it dry and don't get it wet at all.
This worked so well! My hair is really straight and can't hold a curl. I tried this and it was amazing! It stayed in for many hours, about a day which is a lot for my hair. I've done this 6 or 7 times and every time was great.
@@alliedesjardins5711 I have straight hair and for the life of me, heated curls don't last long and it's super frizzy. These worked perfectly. Keep it on overnight for a minimum of 8 hrs I would say on dry hair.
This is literally the best heatless hair curling tutorial out there!!! It’s so easy, so comfortable, and doesn’t have that “heatless” curled look (some of the curls looking wonky, frizziness, certain parts not being curled at all, etc. anyone who’s tried other tutorials knows what I mean) and it’s so reliable!!! I always know the result that I’m going to get and it’s always so uniform and lovely, not to mention you can customize how big the curls are to get different looks!!! This is one of the few methods I’ve tried that still looks good on shorter hair as well. Your method in particular I found I like a lot better than the original one-way wrap. Thank you!!! ♥️
Thanks so much for the positive feedback, I’m pleased you enjoy this method so much! I also agree, I always found the one-way wrap to create some frizz and also a 70’s vibe. This way creates a lot of volume, shape & texture!
I did it yesterday night and I can say it works! None of the other techniques worked before. I’ve natural curly hair but frizzy and this technique is perfect to get really nice looking hair 😍 thanks a lot!
I don't often come back to leave comments/reviews, but I have done this style a handful of times now and every time it has come out gorgeous. And it is so easy! Finally, a heatless curl style that works!
Just a little too for anyone wanting to do this: If you want them to stay longer like a lot longer do this after you shower your hair or you make your hair wet/damp. Since it's wet and will dry in this shape it stays like that super long. I usually do my hair similar to that and with the water it stays for days, no joke. It can stay for like three four days.
I scrunch my hair with some volumizing moose (just washed damp hair) and pull different sections up with little hair clips. I mist it with a setting spray and sleep on it. Saves me at least 20 minutes in the morning.
I just do two rope braids with my hair, no robe belt etc, with damp hair and it comes out like this and lasts for a good four days. I have naturally wavy hair/ some ringlets, so for me holds without spray for days even with me combing it out a bit each day.
try parting your hair in the middle when you set it and the next morning when you take out the ribbon then part it on the side you should get more lift that way . thanks for sharing.
This tutorial is SO good!! Took me awhile to figure out the technique as I was never a French braider. However, managed to do it and it looks incredible!! My attempt wasn't as tight but still looks amazing. And it's held the curl all day. Brilliant. 🙌
I LOVE THIS!! I bought black silk and chiffon scarves to wrap my hair and having it wrapped up is a super cute daytime look by itself!! Then you can take it out and have fabulous evening curls!! ☺️
This is literally the first heatless curls tutorial that I could easily follow and had great results. My hair is super fine and has quite a bit of wave of its own and I'm a very wild sleeper so usually when I try stuff like this it ends up a frizzy mess and gets unraveled half way through the night but this worked beautifully, thank you! :) I'm definitely gonna do this more often
I couldn't be happier with the result. Thank you for this video! I'm mid-30's and love the look of my hair curly, but I've never owned a curling iron. I'm too afraid to burn myself or damage my hair with heat (especially now in my 30's as my hair is no longer as thick as it used to be, and I don't want to lose any!). My thoughts/lessons learned: I did this method with my hair damp (using a bottle sprayer to keep it damp as I worked). I found that damp hair was easier to manage. My hair is about 3" longer than shoulder length, so not nearly as long as Shonagh's. I wasn't able to get the robe tails to do what hers did, but I found my own way to secure them. I want to get one of those silk night caps to wear over this next time for sleeping on it. I also do want to get small elastics to tie off the tails (I used my normal hair ties and that wasn't ideal). For my hair, I wanted pretty tight curls, so I opted to do way smaller sections at a time and that worked really well. Be careful to do the same size sections on both the left and right of your head, otherwise you might be able to notice a difference in curl size when it's let loose. I made the (slight) mistake of spraying hairspray on it for hold, and definitely overdid it so that weighed down my volume a little and made it feel (IMO) just a little crunchy-looking. I would like to try this with some sort of leave-in next time instead. If you do opt for hairspray, go slow with application and just do it lightly. Overall, 100% impressed and felt so glam with this for an event I just attended. :)
This is the best video ever. I have literally the flattest hair that doesnt hold a curl. Even tongs it drops out. I put my unwashed hair like this for an hour this morning just to see what happened and my hair had body and a messy wave all day. Just fresh washed and dried my hair and have done it again. I am so excited for the morning!
Beth Marshall but this other way to do it you like roll it into to buns on the side of your head with tight pantyhose over your head this way is wayyy better
This is brilliant, thank you so much! It turned out so good I couldn’t believe it! I did mine with a folded bandana instead of a robe tie and it looked super stylish that way. Great way to have a cute updo with a hair scarf or a bandana for the day and then the soft curls for the evening! My new go to for sure! ❤️❤️
I have the same problem! I think it has to do with hair texture. My hair is super fine and frizzy. I cannot just use a finger to section my hair. Maybe section it first?
This tutorial is AMAZAZING!!! I don't kno why, but doing it like a braid(with multidirectional wrapping) never even occurred to me, you're a GENIUS!!! Thank you SO MUCH, for making my favorite Beatles method, just that little bit more awesome!!!!👍 😁👌
I've tried this method and it's definitely the best I've tried. It even stays in all day. I had trouble holding both pieces of hair in my hands at once so I put one half in my mouth while I do the back piece of hair 😄 oh ya and it helps to pull the hair really tight if you want defined curls. Thank you! Best tutorial I've found so far
I love the joyfullness in your creation there! I'm going to give this a go and would love to see my fifteen yo grandaughter try this! She has the most beautiful golden thick hair, she completely has a natural Southern California vibe! You are just so beautiful!
AMAZING tutorial. Perfect amd easy to understand 👌 the amount of time you put into each instruction was amazing. As a hairdresser I was really impressed how detailed you were with each step and I love how it turned out. I'm a little late to this trend but trying it tonight for the first time thanks to this video!! You rock!
Thanks for the positive feedback!! I’m sure you’ll love the results, just make sure it’s completely dry before removing 🤗 let me know how it turns out!
Thank you so much Shonagh - I’ve just watched 2 other demos & they were confusing & didn’t turn out quite like yours did. You’re so patient & have a very calming voice so thank you for taking the time to slowly guide us through this process. I’m off now to shower & follow your instructions afterwards. Every blessing to you 🙏🏼🌈🥰
So I tried this for the first time last night. My hair is naturally curly (2b/c) and long. Turned out beautifully! They look like they’ve been done with a curler and are much neater than if I had left them to air dry. Thanks Shonagh! 😊
I am floored! I tried this last night, even had a dream that it was a total flop, then woke up and took it out to find it worked SO well. Not sure I’ll ever use heat to curl my hair again.
I watched the entire video when I have natural curly hair.my youngest daughter has very thick straight hair and is always looking for ways to make her hair wavy or curly without heat to not damage it,so thank you it looks gorgeous!
I must be the only person in the world who doesn't have a dressing gown! I wonder if they will start selling dressing gown belts all by themselves haha. Your hair's so beautiful. :)
I was going to try a scarf too but I was afraid it would be too soft and make very small tight curls. But I will try it one day. As I have curly hair I find when I try to make big waves the curls tend to keep sneaking back.
56 year old woman here with long hair for the first time ever - finding curling tong/wands so hard to do… came across your video and did this last night as I have a wedding next week & OMG can’t get over it with my Winnie the Pooh dressing gown robe - I loved going to bed like that! Not sure I’m ready for the reverse tutorial as it is tricky to get used to but with practice I think should be good. So pleased to have found your channel!! Thank youuu
Well! This is easily the best robe tie tutorial on UA-cam! Absolutely perfect! Thank you for sharing your improved technique girly! You look gorgeous 😍
I've just tried this for the first time and I'm super excited about the results! I have shoulder length hair and they came out so beautiful with this technique. I used a scarf and it worked perfectly. I still need to perfect the curls so they go all the way up to my crown. I washed my hair and then dried everything around my head with my blow dryer (so I don't catch a cold😏). The rest of my hair I left the way it was so when I started this technique, 1/2 to 2/3 of my hair was damp. I am tempted to say it curls better with the damp hair. My hair gets frizzy easily, especially with heatless curling techniques, but with this one, there is hardly any frizz. So, thank you SO MUCH for showing us! You explained it very well and it's easy to do.
You’re most welcome! Thanks for sharing your positive experience with the technique! My hair looked dry but was cool to the touch, so I know it wasn’t 100% dry - damp hair definitely works best! As I have quite a bit of hair I need to make sure it’s not too damp or it’ll still be like it when I wake up.
Great to know it works on shoulder-length hair. As mine is shoulder length, I've just wrapped mine for sleeping in tonight. Excited to see how it works on my new hair length. I've also used this technique once before when my hair was longer.
ah you have lots of specific details that helped me! i've never seen this done in a criss cross way; just did it! i already know it will turn out great. xxx
Deniz Karagüllü my hair is medium, not thick or thin, but curls stay well in my hair. the curls loosen over the day, but i’d say it’s good for one day if you do it with dry hair, but if you do it with wet hair, i’d say you could get 2 days out of it, which is ideal for me bc i wash my hair every other day. if you dampen your hair, you can get one good day out of it for sure as long as you do it tight
The results are amazing! I've done it myself several times, some smaller, some larger sections and the results are great every time. One tip though, when I sprayed my hair with a stay in conditioner before wrapping, the hair moved much more freely when taken down, and less frizz. I'm sure that would differ for each person, depending on hair type.
Thank you Shonagh, I am interested in natural, non-toxic beauty, and this is perfect! Your presentation and explanation is very clear, and the results are gooooorgeous! And it's cute as twisted French braids, too. I'll look for a ribbon just the right size for that as an alternative hairstyle.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, you saved me so much time in the mornings! I have been doing this for about a month, and I absolutely love it! I have gotten so many compliments on my curls, they can’t believe I only used a robe tie.
Am I the only one that thinks this looks like a style all on its own ?? Brilliant for night time, but those curls at the end are amazing ! The hairs beautiful ! And sooo easy !! Omg I've had to edit this umpteen times....soooo super impressed ☺️ thankyou
This is old school and I always wondered how it was done! I see old movies from the 1800’s with girls going to bed with rags tied in their head so this is awesome! Thank you 😍
Little bit of advice that helps me when I do this: (I don't know if this works on all hair types but personally mine ended up fine) When you take them off of the robe, if they still aren't separating properly and all look a little clumpy, you can use a hairbrush and brush it out. Within 5-10 minutes the curls will have found their way back but the hair will look a little more cohesive. Hope this helps :)
I did this for the first time yesterday with bandanas tied together, but I’m redoing it today with the robe tie from a satin robe to see if it helps with frizziness. I’m hair-challenged and if I can do this, anyone can. So beautiful!
Thankyou so much for this tutorial! I first watched it, then had a go following along with you by watching it again last night, and found I could do it fairly easily. I woke up this morning with beautiful waves/curls, this worked very well on my hair which is just past my shoulders!
I’ve tried so many ways of curling hair with no heat and they never work, I tried this and I just took it out. It works so well and I love how it looks! Thank you! 💕
This has been my number 1 curling method for years. I have very slippery straight hair and with other curling methods my curls just fall out straight away. With this method I can even get second-day curls, even with only using water and no setting lotion or other products.
I love this technique! I've been searching for a way to curl my hair without product and heat and it will be perfect! I can't wait to try it, thank you so much! I love how well you describe how to do it too!🤗🌹
That is by far the best headless curl method and results I've ever seem, I'm definitelyi going to try this , I've got wavyish hair, I've always had trouble curling my hair and getting them to not be frizzy the very few times I've managed to get even get a curl even when it's been done professionally....., but this looks amazing and with no products too thank you so much for sharing this amazing technique, all the best Mary in Australia 🌷

I’ve been doing this for a couple months now and there’s been a massive improvement in my hair. One side of my hair used to be curly and the other was always straight. Now my hair looks healthier and I’ve been getting compliments when I go out.
Your hair is beautiful. I love that you didn’t use any product. I’m going to try that on my long blond hair. Thanks for sharing. You have a lovely smile.

Awesome!! Thanks for sharing!!!
How long did the curls last?
I also have naturally curly hair and struggle a lot with frizz so I'm intrigued. Did you blow out your curls first?
I don't often come back to leave comments/reviews, but I have done this style a handful of times now and every time it has come out gorgeous. And it is so easy! Finally, a heatless curl style that works!
Just a little too for anyone wanting to do this:
If you want them to stay longer like a lot longer do this after you shower your hair or you make your hair wet/damp. Since it's wet and will dry in this shape it stays like that super long. I usually do my hair similar to that and with the water it stays for days, no joke. It can stay for like three four days.
Thank you, that was my question, as this didnt stay long for me.
Wow, I tried in wet hair and wow, it said super long until my next washing😆😆
I scrunch my hair with some volumizing moose (just washed damp hair) and pull different sections up with little hair clips. I mist it with a setting spray and sleep on it. Saves me at least 20 minutes in the morning.
I usually do it on damp hair too, my hair can hold a curl but they last so long that way!!
Me n my natural curly hair: yes let’s learn how to curl hair
Haha same.
Same! But I find styled curls much neater than my natural curls
Ruby yes and if you brush them out they look like a lions mane 🦁
Ruby I was told by someone with curly hair, she curls to get the hair to curl like she wants.
I have curly hair but it's fuzzy and I can't tame it..
My hair is 30" long...... this is a game changer.... this method held my curls all day with no product. THANK YOU!!
Not even hairspray? I need to try this omg
Thiss!! My hair is 34" long and is obviously WAY too long for any kind of curling iron so I'm so glad that I found this!
@@jessa6518 lol my hair is only 11"long
What is 30”? Like cm? Sorry Im not from America and I don’t know, I do in cm😅
@@larasporre3224 no hairspray unless I'm going to an event!
I love that sincere smile on your face when you'r surprised with the result))
Yeah, I loved it! It still happens every time
I take it out 😅
I couldn't be happier with the result. Thank you for this video! I'm mid-30's and love the look of my hair curly, but I've never owned a curling iron. I'm too afraid to burn myself or damage my hair with heat (especially now in my 30's as my hair is no longer as thick as it used to be, and I don't want to lose any!). My thoughts/lessons learned:
I did this method with my hair damp (using a bottle sprayer to keep it damp as I worked).
This looks so much more manageable to sleep on too
I’m trying to sleep with it right now and TRUST ME IT’S NOT AHAHAH
@@bethanygrace266 🤣🤣🤣
Beth Marshall but this other way to do it you like roll it into to buns on the side of your head with tight pantyhose over your head this way is wayyy better
yes its pretty comfortable especially if the bath robe is soft
This is what I'm wondering, is it worth doing it for a side sleeper or will I be too annoyed and take it out???
I just tried this and I’m BLOWN AWAY!!! Absolutely beautiful curls, gorgeous 🥰. You did a wonderful job explaining the steps, thank you 😊
This is brilliant, thank you so much!
It turned out so good I couldn’t believe it! I did mine with a folded bandana instead of a robe tie and it looked super stylish that way. Great way to have a cute updo with a hair scarf or a bandana for the day and then the soft curls for the evening! My new go to for sure! ❤️❤️
Thats so smart actually
i read that as “folded BANANA” at first and was deeply confused 😂
"This is a simple technique" me 4 hours later about ready to rip my hair out, I give up.
You look gorgeous BTW 😍
😂😂😂😂
I have the same problem! I think it has to do with hair texture. My hair is super fine and frizzy. I cannot just use a finger to section my hair. Maybe section it first?
Look up how to do a French braid then repeat using the robe as the third strand
i really started crying after one try
Fine hair is slow slippery while doing this. You've gotta have like 6 hands to keep hold of it.
You’re most welcome, Manda!!! 😁
Your hair is so beautiful straight and wavy 🥺 The honey color and the shine!!
Great to hear it worked well for you! It’s a nice way to tame natural curls isn’t it!
Hello Michelle, did you do it on dry or damp hair please ? And which product did you put before wrapping ?
You can even wear this as a hairstyle during the day. It's cute
Absolutely! Use a neck scarf or ribbon and you’re well away!
yesss a bandana would look cute
I was thinking the same :D!
This turned out amazing. Love the curls it gives 🥰
Thank yooooou!
I am floored! I tried this last night, even had a dream that it was a total flop, then woke up and took it out to find it worked SO well. Not sure I’ll ever use heat to curl my hair again.
Haha, ahh, amazing Emily!! It really is a game-changer!
i had the same issue somehow! I just cut a silk scarf to make it happen haha
@effyturner did the scarf work??
@@elisabeth530 Yes it did! Its more wearable, and less bulky too!
I was going to try a scarf too but I was afraid it would be too soft and make very small tight curls. But I will try it one day. As I have curly hair I find when I try to make big waves the curls tend to keep sneaking back.
i just tie two knee high socks together to make a long rope and it works really well!
Thank you so much for this video!! I tried this tonight and FINALLY got the waves I have always wanted at the age of 40. Life changing!
Thank youuu
I would just wear it like that while it's still wrapped up, cute summer look
Absolutely! Try it with a ribbon!
Love this look on you....I love how excited you got when you were taking your hair out of the rope! ♥️
I just tried this with damp hair. It was super easy and after just two hours, I have the best curls I’ve had in my life! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Thanks so much!
Where do you get the wrap to wrap your hair with?
@@nicoleyap6070 I used the tie to a bath robe. I’m sure you could also use a scarf or something similar.
Thank you for not speeding up the video like the other ones I have seen do. This helps a lot.
You’re welcome! I know it’s not an easy technique to grasp for everyone so I didn’t want to speed it up unnecessarily.
Well! This is easily the best robe tie tutorial on UA-cam! Absolutely perfect! Thank you for sharing your improved technique girly! You look gorgeous 😍
Thanks so much, Meredith! So pleased you loved it!
I've also used this technique once before when my hair was longer.
ah you have lots of specific details that helped me! i've never seen this done in a criss cross way; just did it! i already know it will turn out great. xxx
How did it turn out?!
Shaelyn R it was so pretty!!! it worked great 😊 super bouncy curls. it lasts longer with hair a little bit dampened!
@@natalieholding649 how much did it last and do you have thicker hair or thinner hair
@@natalieholding649 ok thank you so much
The most clear easy to follow instructions I have seen, and the simplest method delivered by a sweet attractive young woman.
This is the BEST result I've ever seen in this kind of video!! I definitely gonna try.
Thanks so much!!!
This is so helpful! The way you explained how to maneuver the hair was very clear and easy to understand!
By far the best tutorial on how to do this. Your curls / waves came out amazing!
Thank you so much!! Glad you liked it.
I wouldn’t mind going out with my hair wrapped up like this. It would keep my black hair cooler in Florida heat & sun!! 😁
You could definitely do something cute with a scarf or something
omg yes wrap a bandana around it and then bam
Thank you so much for this tutorial, you saved me so much time in the mornings! I have been doing this for about a month, and I absolutely love it! I have gotten so many compliments on my curls, they can’t believe I only used a robe tie.
I love how excited you are by the outcome! Thanks for this. Looks great
Am I the only one that thinks this looks like a style all on its own ?? Brilliant for night time, but those curls at the end are amazing ! The hairs beautiful ! And sooo easy !! Omg I've had to edit this umpteen times....soooo super impressed ☺️ thankyou
Haha, thanks Karen! You’re not alone, LOADS of people are loving the wrap as a style on its own 😄
So pleased you loved it!
no:) I've a long silver scarf I'm eyeing for this...;)
This is old school and I always wondered how it was done!
I thought you said bananas😂
Thankyou so much for this tutorial! I first watched it, then had a go following along with you by watching it again last night, and found I could do it fairly easily. I woke up this morning with beautiful waves/curls, this worked very well on my hair which is just past my shoulders!
Your tutorials are sooo good. Queen of heatless curls 👸🏽💁🏽♀️

Yay, so pleased it worked out so well for you, Emily! ☺️

Just watched again so I can do it tonight. It is absolutely mesmerizing how your fine thin hair (like I have) is transformed into glistening voluminous hair. I have been wanting a good way to protect my hair at night and this will do the trick and also have a great end result in the morning. Win win! You are amazing and a blessing to so many. ❤❤❤❤❤

As a new mom, I definitely don’t have time to do my hair in the morning-EVER. This is SO NICE, because I can do it after my daughter has gone to sleep and I have a few minutes before I head to bed myself! Life saver! 🥰
This is why I'm hear, if only u could somehow do makeup before bed hahaha
By following my side parting, the back of my hair was mostly straight. Tried again with middle parting, had a better result. Comfortable to sleep in.
Great tip! Thanks.
Were you able to move the curls back to your side part after you took them out?
I was wondering about this. She said curls to the root, but the back of her head was too far away from the twist to get any curl.
Thank you so much for sharing this, I’ve looked for so many videos, and they all use product and heat which damages the hair, it takes ages to do and who has time for that.
