Exactly how I teach them to jump, like us if it’s fun and easy for our first experience of a new task, and we feel we are good at it we will want to do it more. Confidence, fun and a reward to cement this is everything. x
This is absolutely great! I have a three year old thoroughbred and want to turn her into a jumper. This is a great way for them to figure out their own striding and footing before putting a rider on them. In addition to giving them confidence.
So you teach the horse that if you make a noise like a click then reward then the click will equal a reward which they want. So the will learn to increase the behaviour when they hear the click. So if everytime they touched a object you clicked and rewarded they would then increase the times they touch the object because they want more food. There are lots of things you need to be aware of as you don't want a horse that muggs your pockets for food so the first thing i teach is to stand in a neutral posture to recieve the food. I hope that helps
It's where it gets really high, multiple jumps and under the pressure of the clock where the problems will usually come back. Horses dislike real jumping for a reason. This is nice though. More people should realize it isn't that hard to teach horses things like this in freedom and there is no reason for force.
I only have horses for a short period, normally 6 weeks and my focus isn't just the jumping. its amazing how quickly they learn and how they enjoy it if kept under threshold of anixiety and rewarded. Thank you for your comment
