6 months ago we moved onto our 6 acres of abandoned land here in Ireland. Starting our off grid homestead has not been easy. Join us as we show you everything we've built so far as we turn this abandoned land into the homestead of our self-sufficiency dreams. And we'll share with you some of the emotional highs and lows of our journey so far.
We still have a TON to do, but through the mistakes, challenges and hardships we're learning and growing as we go.

Ducks and geese will take care of the slugs. Definitely invest in a small flock. Great eggs too!
You probably have heard this, but in case you haven't, crushed egg shells spread around the base of your plants discourages slugs, it can kill them.
@@markgardner9107 or pine needles
Yes to slugs, it is like walking on broken glass😊
or powderd glass
Looking forward to seeing your progress over the next 13months ….. Totally RAW AND HONEST VLOGS !!! Nothing been staged for the camera and telling us exactly how it’s been. Just make each other laugh every day and I know that you will turn this adventure into something TRULY SPECTACULAR ❤❤
Thanks a mil!
Ireland's version of 'Escape to the Chateau', and a million times better. 😊
Yes sirrr
There was a channel called Mossy Bottom who struggled with the Irish weather, soil and local microclimate. He came up with some ingenious ways of working the land in order to make his small holding function efficiently. You might get some good ideas from his old videos hete on YT. Good luck m'dears. Xx🎉
Thanks - we enjoyed some Mossy Bottom content before he left. He did great things on his little slice of heaven. Thanks for following along
I really would consider terracing the land closest to the house ..it’s how they grow in Nepal and it is so much less work after you terrace
I was thinking that terrace farming could work well
Great permaculture idea!
Thx it was very nice whatching everything uve done so far. Yr garden is beautiful and the eggs as well.😊
You need to purchase a tractor with a forklift attachment on the front and a digger bucket on the back to dig drains with etc. It will make your life so much easier.
And maybe a quad bike so they can get up to the big hill with more stuff
Definitely some form of 4 wheel drive to cart things around. 💎
At least a motorised wheelbarrow . 😊
Old tractor with a slasher on 3point linkage 👍. Sheep?
A tractor a must even small with power having an enjoyable time
This has been a tonic refreshing and greatly encouraging. After a mild stroke your authentic video has lifted my spirit incredibly. A fan who will delight in your future renovations. Keep on keeping on a brilliant insight to a lovely family. ❤
Thanks a mil for your kind words. We wish you a speedy recovery. 🙏 ❤️
Nobody said it would be easy … but bloody hell that’s been hard work. Well done you 👏 👏👏
No rest for the wicked! Thanks for following along
Really enjoyed this guys, well done and we’re excited to see how you get on! From fellow homesteading “newbies” (and Newby’s 😉) in Portugal!!
Hey folks, thanks for following along. We hadn't come across your channel before - you have a load of content! I see a binge watching catch up in our future.
Never had the guts too do what you are doing, good luck to you both,
Never say never! Thanks for following along
Also crushed egg shells is great for tomatoes to prevent black spot, just crush fi ei i blended when dry and spread around plants
Thank you
Glad to see you guys using PPE! You never know what you are going to dust up in areas when renovating! Especially with dried rat/mouse feces and other stuff! Love this stuff.
Watching from Canada. The weather in Ireland is much like that in the province of Newfoundland and Labadour. You are doing an amazing job.
Well done Folks! A very brave move you've made! Now! Onwards and upwards we're all enjoying this and rooting for you! ❤ XXX
Yeah, literally upwards!
Hello Cori and Kayvan! Watching from USA. Just found your channel and I think I am going to love it! Congratulations to all of you! I applaud your bravery and strength on forging a whole new life in a new country! I can't imagine the energy it took you guys to do everything you have done! God Bless you!! ❤🤗✨
Where in the US are you ? Thanks for the lovely comment and for following along
Hello from south Texas of the south coast love the video and your outlook on your new life ,it takes a lot of work I know this as I live on a small 30 acre horse farm mostly just hay fields looking forward to your next video
Watching your new life start❤ we are in North Dakota, USA
💖 Bless you, dear Dandelion. 💛❤🩹💖 That is the dearest name for a little sheep angel.
Wonderful adventure you have embarked on. You will never regret it as it is a life changing real event. I did it 35 years ago with no mobile phone, no internet, no sky tv. Everyday i thank the powersthat be i did it. I am 70 now. Enjoy life. S H
HI Simon, thanks for following along. That's a pretty bold move!
In this era of internet and global communication, we can never really jump into the unknown, so you were the real adventurer.
Thanks for following along.
Just found your channel that came up in my feed. Im enjoying watching your new experiences in making this new place your home. Just a bit of advice on slugs... here in the states we use beer to catch and kill them. You need a shallow pan, such as a pie pan. You need beer, no specific kind, the cheapest will work. Pour about an inch of beer in the pan and set them around anything you want to keep the slugs away from. They crawl in and overdose on alcohol and drown. Empty and repeat as necessary. It works very well for me. I hope this will help! ❤
Hi, we have had a great success with the beer traps. They worked better than I could have hoped for. The only problem at the scale we are talking about here, is keeping the beer topped up adds up to a not insignificant investment! Need to start our own brewing operation!
Grow potatoes in sacks, place anywhere and easy to harvest, the plastic weave sacks are the best
That barn is exciting…potential for sure
Could you get a quad bike with trailer to tackle the hill and your land ,it would be worth every penny if it does the job
Welcome again to Ireland - you will no doubt have learned by now, that timelines in Ireland are very flexible - 8 weeks is in Irish terms is pretty close to 4 weeks, so it is yet another case of "Sure, It'll be grand" 😉
Learning that fast - to be sure!
Wishing you welcome and all the best with your work il b watching your progress 😊
Thank a mil! Appreciate you following along
Ducks love slugs! Putting old copper pipes around edges of beds and at the bottom of the greenhouse door keeps them out. Sew carrots 2nd week in May.
Just discovered you guys .. so excited for u all and can’t wait to watch ur progress… 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🥰
Thank you!
Well done its been a harsh summer
Hoping for a mild winter!
oh, food-grade diatomaceous earth is good, spread around the slug-besieged crops. It desiccates the slugs i think.
We have some and use it in the chicken coop to control mites. It is such a wet climate here in IRL, it generally doesn't last long enough around the plants to make it worth while, it just gets washed away. When it does remain, it is effective for sure.
Great adventure. It is so nice to hear from KAYVAN when given a rare chance to speak. You really need a 4x4 mule or tractor to move stuff up and down your steep hills. Backpacking your needs only goes so far with heavy materiel and changing weather. Good luck and have fun in your resettlement.
ATV or Side by Side...see if you can get a Sponsor, (forget what they're called..🤦♀️😂)❤
He is a man of few words. You can see that he’s happy, though.
Thanks for putting this together. I know it's a ton of work to do this type of compilation. Really fun to watch again, but also get excited for the possibilities that are to come for you all!! Enjoy the rest of your summer. Looking forward to seeing the progress. Stay safe!!
Thanks for following along
Get a medium size 4wd tractor and a brush cutter, plus a link box to do the hauling
Welcome to Ireland !!! Best of luck going forward !!!!
Thanks a mil! 💚
I like you two. You are genuine and I will be following your journey
Thanks for following along
Thanks for giving me another brand new channel to binge watch. 😊
When you need a hand just ask you are in Ireland and people here do not mind at all guys to lend a hand when needed best of luck your place will be sorted and looks brilliant thanks
Great progress! I really enjoy watching you guys 😊 it's lovely to hear that your daughter had such a good start there and found friends easily 💓
Thanks a mil
Great that you got the grant! Also be great to hear more from Kaven both in him trying to speak and also would have like more footage on his hauling stuff and creating the garden.
So pleased to have just found you, this is second video I'm watching.
You are really interesting and refreshing. Looking forward to watching your progress xx
Off grid in IRELAND
Heaven
My heaven
Soooo beautiful
You are doing well, I’m from the south of England originally!. Lived here for 50 years, I’ve travelled the world.Ireland is the best place in the world, you won’t get better people ❤️❤️
I do feel that I'm gonna enjoy this channel of yours...
Go on UA-cam about your slugs, 2 strips of copper wire not touching around either the inside or out side under a wee wood overhang to prevent water linking the wires, with a 9 volt battery attacked , the battery can be pot in a plastic sandwich container. When the slug crosses the wires…. Zap! I have mine on my allotment raised boxes, lasts all summer.
If you have slug eggs in the dirt already an old can filled with beer will attract all the slugs, empty frequency… don’t drink said beer!
When your funds can allow it an old Quad bike would be a great help for all the lugging, get some safety pointers from the locals who have them.
Lovely spot.
Nice suggestions - thank you!
If you have problems with slugs you should consider getting some ducks or geese, they love earing slugs and snails. Indian running ducks should be especially fond of slugs, and they are less scary than geese 😉
Thanks for the suggestion.
So glad we discovered your channel. We live in the US. Looking so forward to following you on your trek. Ireland is so beautiful! You two are so enjoyable to see together
Greetings from Vancouver, Canada! I just started watching you today. I subscribed after the first video that I watched. I've watched all four now. I can see why you've already attracted 20K subscribers! It's fun, I admire your hard work and perseverance and how you tackle challenges, you two make a great team, I love the baking and planting and clearing and making of things. Very entertaining. I can almost smell that fresh air, the newly dug dirt and the fresh baked bread! Looking forward to more!
Hey there, we love Vancouver! We drove through The Rockies to spend some time in Vancouver then over to Vancouver Island for a week. Cori and family are from Saskatchewan.
Literally just hit 20k as you were typing your comment. WOOT! Thanks for being there.
Appreciate your kind words and for following along.
Yay!! So happy you got the grant!🥳🥳 I've seen gardeners use either planks of wood or cardboard placed between the rows of veggies to control slugs. You wet the underside and lay them down, the next day when you pick them up, the slugs are attached to the underside. 💕💕
I dont get one thing, l know you film only a minute part of the work you do but my question is; why is it always your sweet husband doing the heavy work?. I hope it is not the reality....... you both have a beautiful smile and are very watchable, but for the moment it is very patchy, and it is a pity because this is the most interesting part. But l sub the same hoping there will be more than a told story and more action from both of you ❤❤❤
@@raffaellavitiello1762 If this was my hubby and I, he would be doing the heavy lifting, as I have a back injury and could not lift that weight, never mind up that steep hill. Perhaps he doesn't want her to get hurt? She also may be working on her own project that they will talk about in another video. Don't forget, this is just a catch-up video on what they've been up to over several months, there is only so much you can fit in. They also talked about their child needing to be driven to school which didn't seem close. Let's say it's an hour round trip. That's 2 hours just driving. Then while you're there, might as well buy groceries and do laundry, run errands etc. This encapsulated video of several months show a fraction of their lives...Hope that helps💕💕
@@raffaellavitiello1762😊
@@raffaellavitiello1762Ah it's ridiculous altogether. How are they ever going to homestead if she doesnt get off her ass.
@@Parmesitowow nasty that comment. If I were you I wasn’t so sure she doesn’t do anything. She’s doing other things that you’re not seeing on video. We only see a glimpse of their life so your comment is not only unfair but biased and aggressive. It’s very sad that some people have nothing else to do online but criticising others and bring naiv by thinking you know it all.
Hi guys, congratulations on obtaining the grant, now the hard work starts but I know you both have the energy and the will power to get everything done, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
The hardwork hasn't ever stopped :D Appreciate it, thanks Les!
I just love you guys .... and l hope you will be happy in our lovely green Isle. ❤
Now the fun begins trying to find trades and get them to actually show up when they say they will. My advice is to use local knowledge and your nice neighbour to get personal recommendations for your electrician, builder, plumber aso. This country runs on who you know, as much as what you know. I wish you the best of luck, and congrats on getting the grant! From what I've heard many councils will give you a little leaway if you're a few weeks over the 13 month mark they will be ok if you tell them, but check this out anyway. Hopefully you can get all the work done in time. Welcome to Ireland 😊
Thank you for the warm welcome, and words of advice. Appreciate you following along
Welcome to Ireland, I'd agree re finding electrician plumber etc especially with 13 month time limit, you really do have to get to know these people early because there aren't enough of them & are all under pressure especially since this grant was introduced.
get ducks for slugs. Let them loose in the vegetable patch and they will tidy them up for you, fertilize the garden, and not scratch it up like chickens would. Good luck to you, you are very impressive.
Thanks for the kind words. Ducks are a serious consideration for sure!
Kayvan turned 40 and looks gorgeous 🥰
Congratulations on the grant guys 😊
Honestly. I believe you found a gem. With some work, you will create an oasis! It's going to be fantastic. Beautiful. ❤❤
Hello from Oz I was just about to sleep then I spotted your on line so now I'm watching lol love from Blue Mountains Australia 🇦🇺 ❤
Thanks for following along
Wash out yer egg shells..put in oven to dry..only takes few mins..note..they burn quickly. Break up when cool and keep in waterproof box. Scatter around yer vegs. Keeps slugs from moving around. Got that tip from a great gardener...it works for us. Also saucers of beer good for slugs too.
The beer is unbelievable. Serious game changer - although clean up is 'orrible! Thanks for following along
Beer traps are the business I can't stand slug pellets being used. Another use for the egg shells is to feed them to the hens, only found out about that after seeing my friend fed her hens the shells.
you two need to get an affiliation relationship going with Kuboda or John Deer! Their 4 wheeled track buggies should be able to tackle that hill. No? Thank God for your youth and for your determination. May He continue to bless you in this adventure.
Any machinery by those folks would be dreamy!
In time, you might want a summer shack (with a wide porch) on the top of Hilary. It would be lovely and make early morning puttering more fun; popping out of bed and wandering the garden barefoot, gazing at your views. (Then your land would be an estate! with a summerish home and a winterish home.) 😊 Maybe leveling the field closer to the house will become more possible in time. Oh, it was the lack of light wasn't it. Maybe over time you can find more shade loving crops and/or light magnifiers.
Because ducks can see well at night, they don't always naturally herd themselves into a pen at night but can be fine to 6.6 degrees Celsius. I think that one female duck, raised with the chicken flock would probably follow them into the pen.
Glad your on your journey to renovate. 😊😊
So are we!
Wow what a place and such a lot of work totally addicted to watching you lovely people hope it all goes well
Thanks a mil!
New here from Washington State USA..we are doing the same here.. Sold everything moved far away onto acreage off grid..i love your cottage !

Well done guys
Thanks a mil!
Lovely that you got the grant ! Many parts of Ireland do honestly require young families & renewal & renovation !!
Thanks a mil!
Well done guys!, you's are so hard working and brave!. Keep going n never give up!. Welcome to the Emerald Isle.
Thanks a mil!
Amazing, so happy for you that you got your grant for renovations, love the chickens and your first eggs, now veggies from your veggie patch. It's great that your daughter has settled so well and has made friends. Congratulations on your success so far!!! ♥
Thanks a mil
You're such a lovely family. Congrats on the grant!
Left Ireland 8 years ago to come to London feel the pull to go back, you are very brave to take all that on,Kerrs pink are great Irish potatoes, look forward to another video
Appreciate the recommendation. Thanks for following along.
Binging the lot tonight and can’t tell you how envious I am of this. So good your daughter settled immediately and found friends (always a worry at that age). The water is such a big thing. I live in a hard water area in UK but when drawing water from our wells in Ireland, it’s like nectar, I immediately feel the benefit in hair, nails and teeth (sounds odd, but it’s true). You’re living my dream, best I can do is to come along for the journey and watch it progress. Good Luck! Erin go Bragh ✊☘️✊
We know exactly what you mean about the difference - nectar indeed! Thanks for following along. Erin go Bragh
something I learned the hard way since none of the books I read on about keeping chickens . chickens attract predators and rodents like rats arrgh one good hint is get a metal barrel with a lid and make sure you hide the chicken food everynight in that metal barrell ( plastic will not work because rats will eat their way through plastic... also bungee cord that lid securely on some animals can get the lid off if teh lid is not secure. HINt 2 for predators like hawks if you let the chickens free range ( they love to free range I usually only let them free range If I am going to be out and about with them now ) ... alos make some crow decoys to stick in the ground ... you can buy them or make them out of black plastic bags and wire hangers lots of tutorials on youtube or paint some pink flamingos black ( I bought some at the dollars store for a 1.25) you need at least 5 or more and move them around from day to day to make it looks like their is a murder of crows hanging around your property ... hawks hate crows because crow will gang up on one hawk and attack it . Also good ide to invest in a chicken health book
I have heard exactly what you say about them going through plastic. Just got a galvanised steel bin for the chick feed - was getting tired of cleaning up all the feed on the floor from the rodents chewing through the plastic bags.
Thanks for following along.
Love that fawlty towers reference .. "Basil!!" 😊
Great garden. Your hard work is paying off.😊
Thank you! Enjoying the daily harvest very much.
Wishing you super times ahead. Just think where you will be in 13 months.
Thanks a mil
I look forward to seeing all your progress!!! For my hauling needs, on my land, I have two, four wheel yard carts. They make things so much easier!
I was wondering if any quads could manage steep muddy hills. They could at least drive up To the steepest part and then the walking/hauling would be shorter.
Fair play to ye....good luck on your journey and welcome to Ireland!!!
Thanks a mil!
Wow what an amazing place looking forward to watching your progress. We did something similar moved over 18 months ago and love it ,good luck with it all 😊
Thanks a mil! Hope everything is going good with your move. Thanks for following along

You will be so grateful you bought this property when all is said and done. The ceiling in the cottage is beautiful
We are already eternally grateful for the privilege of being its custodian. Thanks for following along
May you have only good days 😊. Congratulations 🏡
Looks like you’re off to a great start! Keep up the good work.
TY!
🇨🇦My second video. I am glad you got a drilled well in, I was worried how you would get potable water and electrics was a bonus. I admire your spirit, determination and energy!!
Thanks for the good vibes
Great presentation format ! Don’t doubt the challenges and application needed to overcome them! Best of luck👍
Love the update and the highs and lows. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
Congratulations on the hard work you've already done ! Fingers crossed for the next steps!
Thanks for following along
Sounds fabulous what u are doing - cant wait to see the renovations
Thanks a mil!
Just found your channel. Love how you did this video to catch us first timers up to date ❤
Cori is a great producer, always impressed by the content she comes up with. Thanks for following along
Best of luck to you both! There will be days when you wish you had never started this project, but persevere, it WILL be worth it. Wife and I are just about ready to move into our own restored cottage in North County Leitrim. It has been unbelievably hard going trying to preserve random rubble and stone walls whilst incorporating the latest in heat saving technology - and expensive. We didn't avail of the vacant/derelict grant as we thought it too bureaucratic and noticed estimates from all trades loading their prices when we mentioned we might be going for it - be careful. One grant that we did get and is available to you also is the drilling of a private well. You get that from your local Council and here in Leitrim they were very helpful. It is definitely worth it.
Keep going. Keep smiling. Scream/shout/cry when it all gets too much - tomorrow is another day!!!
Great summary of the reality of taking on these projects.... thanks for following along
Well done guys on getting your grant! I’m so glad you feel settled. We moved from Australia and it’s the best decision we ever made for our family. I’m looking forward to following along on your journey.
As a novice bed Gardner, I, too, tried to grow asparagus with crowns. I didn't know how to spread out the roots, etc. but there is still hope, Have "feathers" off and on in a box bed in south Texas by the swimming pool duh
What a lovely property you have found! Thank you for sharing it with us. It looks like a lovely place!
Thanks for following along!
Congratulations guys ❤ Amazing content! Keep going, we enjoy watching you 🤗
Thanks a mil!
Happy to see your progress. Inspired of your hard work. I wish we can have also a family farm like yours. 🥰
Follow your heart
So fun to watch! Don't let the bad times get you down. 😊
Thanks a mil!
Congratulations!! Really enjoy your adventures-I’m living vicariously 😊Blessings!
Thank you!
Cory's slug bait works great. a quad 4 wheel drive with a rack on the back to haul small loads up your hill. then weld a basket on the front of the quad that will fit 2 five gallon buckets side by side. we use this on our farm daily. its a back saver.
Congratulations on getting the grant, such great news. Thank you for sharing guys, it's a lot more to do. Impressed by how much you've done already, and all of the enthusiasm and energy. ❤
Thanks for the kind words and following along
It's a joy watching you two in your endeavours .
Thanks a mil! Appreciate you following along
Just found your channel today! I must say you are fantastic! Love your sense of humor and determination to make this monumental decision to homestead off grid work! From Ontario, Canada I wish you all the best and look forward to following along on your journey. God Bless!!
