@@karenklucas923 I wouldn't train the ponies to work together. They have narrow tracks that two ponies wouldn't fit. Besides the cart wouldn't be that big or heavy.
Just what I came on to say - those ponies would make short work of shifting the material. You’d still have to shovel and bag but…..🤷thought ….could you buy palletised bags of compost - marginally more expensive but save a lot of time and effort!
My recommendation for self-sufficiency with low effort, think about fruit and nut trees, rather than building out a bigger veg bed. Trees need a bit longer anyway, so the earlier you plant them, the better. And they will provide lots of food, which you can, but don't have to preserve for it to last through the winter. Just a thought. Plant once, and focus on the renovations while the trees mature and fruit.
My thoughts are, you use veges pretty much every day with most meals, you eat fruit far less. Absolutely plant fruit trees asap, but I do think veges are a priority to plant, as you'll use them daily
The fact that you use the veges every day makes me think that you really need to set up some raised garden beds close to home so it’s like a pantry outside your kitchen. You’ll work it out.
Truth! We are really looking forward to planting fruit and nut trees. It is another project which needs time, energy and money to do so though. We do want to get them into the ground asap so they can become established and provide bounty.
I was crying laughing at your dumpster pipe experience. My daughter and I decided we would have either cut the pipe in smaller pieces and/or tied it together. However your method was soooooo much more entertaining. 😂
i havent read all comments, but as a horse/pony owner of many years, Id like you to know that you probably need a run of electric line just above the ponies knee height otherwise they willearn very quickly especially when their thick winter coats are in or if they have rugs on, they will slip straight under that single strand. I have had some ponies which have required 3 strands set at 30cm apart to contain them safely ❤ Wishing you happy times with your horsey companions ❤ 🐎🐎
Happy 100th birthday Jean from here in Canada and congratulations on the milestone. I understand why you enjoy following your granddaughter and her family on this journey. i love this channel too.
1st...HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEAN! I really wish I could give you all the knowledge my grandfather gave me about making jobs easier. Next time you have something akward to put into the dumpster, cut it into manageable pieces. Cutting the white plastic piping into pieces as tall as you would make the job easier.
I have 2.25 acres and not off grid. I do work nights and getting up at 3 pm and dark by 6, I invested in Solar lights in areas I don't have AC power, and areas I do, I have installed high powered flood lights. It does let me get things done once it get dark in the winter. I even installed light a light bar on my tractor. Amazon has some really good deals.
Hi guy's!! All those little sprouts under the tarp are great for your chickens 😊😊 They love any fresh sprouting seeds alongside any grains and feed you may give them, also they with turn over and peck out any grubs and pests that will have wiggled their way down in the soil to over winter. Best of luck with everything, especially the Garlic ❤
Guys! Give yourselves a huge pat on the back. You accomplish so much with so little. You literally will have your blood, sweat and tears in your home. Be proud, you all deserve it.
I came here for the renovations but it’s the innuendos and tomfoolery which keeps me here! Loving your videos, the volume of work you have on is incredible but you do it all with a smile and laughing which makes it so enjoyable to watch. Thanks for sharing 🤍
Happy birthday to your lovely Nana Jean. 100 years old just wonderful. 🎉🎉🎉❤love seeing you all chip in and getting the stuff done. I love your cottage and garden and ponies
Great progress, and I thought you took time to enjoy your life around making your ongoing struggles a marathon rather than a race. There must a lot of vampires to merit all the garlic . Happy Birthday Jean 🎉. It's easy to see where Cori and her daughter get their good looks from. You all seem to keep pace with your hard work made possible with your smiles. Thanks for sharing your weekly life's experiences turning the " Can Do" attitude into "Counted It Done" .Peace and Prayers 👍🙏
Love your blue, green & black top & Kvans matching blue jacket coloured coordinated clothes combination really makes your video pop! Also, it really makes me giggle when you are talking to Kvan & he looks fed up & just keeps silent & walks away from you, not acknowledging & ignoring you when planting the garlic. I just realised in most of your videos, there is always a scene where Kvan is doing this sort of thing.
Happy birthday Jean on your 100 birthday you should be so proud of your granddaughter and her hubby they are doing a fantastic job in beautiful Ireland 💚👍🤗
We had 2 Shetland ponies when we lived in our last house here in Wales, the fields were next to a main road and we had the R S P C A visit us 2 times in 6 months as a know it all thought they were not being looked after. They have to visit the chap said i could see on the last visit how well kept they were but there has been another call so i have to check. We had a year with no trouble then it started again and my daughter rehomed them as she was going to college.I think as people don't see you checking them and feeding hay etc and the farrier calling that they are just left on there own.
Happy Birthday Jean! May the next year be full of health, happiness, and no need to move the fridge! Lol! Congratulations on corraling the horses and planting the garlic. Those were two big jobs, not to mention moving all the compost! Well done!
Happy Birthday Jean!! Wishing you many more years of continued good health happiness laughter and love! You guys are doing great, and it truly is a family project.
Hola you 3 & Happy Birthday lovely Jean. Another great video, lots of progress with the Ponies, garlic & filling the skip. Oh, and shifting the compost. Have a good week, take care ❤
Great video guys, it doesn't matter what you're doing, be it garden or house construction. All I see is a loving family, so united to any goal. When your cottage is completed and all is done, you will still have an appeal for a huge following!. Keep going and best wishes. Adrian.

Happy belated Birthday Nan , I truly hope you had an amazing birthday and I pray you have many more years to share your love and knowledge with the ones dearest to you. 🎉 🎂🎊🎈😘
With you reduced garden space, I recommend that you only plant the things you eat a LOT of. Buy organic for the things you only eat a few times a year. I had to reduce mine due to a painful injury that incapacitated me for nearly a year. I planted potatoes, sweet potatoes tomatoes, peppers and lettuce, carrots, beetroot and beans.
Cannot wait for this ground work to start. You have done amazing growing all your produce and I totally agree you need to concentrate on the cottage for a while. Cannot wait to see your next vlog. Well done all 3 of you for working as a great team this week.

Love seeing your progress, although those metal rods in the ground sent me into a health and safety panic 😆 . Nicely camouflaged, it’d be very easy to lose an eye while bending over working on your new bed 😮. Either an upturned flower pot over the top or a hooked end would also provide a ‘handle’ of sorts to help pull it out the ground. Believe you me, I have lots of experience seeing accidents waiting to happen .. my OH latest attempt to cut his finger off a few weeks ago resulted in a trip to A&E and 10 stitches and nerve damage to his finger 🤦🏻♀️ x

Nope: garlic *needs* a sharp cold spell to trigger the proper division into separate cloves. It's amazingly hardy - I've watched deep frosts melt away and the little green shoots resume their progress. You made the new garden bed look easy all hands on deck! I laughed right along with you at the end, when you're that tired everything just makes you laugh even harder. Have a great week!

Another way to transport fairly sizeable amounts of stuff over a distance is to lay it on top of a sizeable sturdy tarp and drag!
With pony strength
Even build a small little saddle pack to load some sacks on the pony’s back, then lead them up the trail
100 years old? You don't look a day over 80 Jean! Hope you had a fabulous birthday 🎂 🎉

Very sensible to limit your growing to what you can manage. You don’t need any extra stress. Hope you didn’t get too battered with the latest storm.
Take care. Oh and just wondering if you can add on a super thanks bit so I can contribute to you as this is an easy way for me
Love seeing your progress, although those metal rods in the ground sent me into a health and safety panic 😆 .
We appreciate your concern, and thinking about it now, you are spot on. Upturned pot sounds like a winner. Have been fortunate to have avoided any serious damage over the years. A few minor flesh wounds from lack of thought in the moment.
Nerve damage ouch! Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Thanks. Living 10 mins from A&E has proved useful over the years 😮😆
It's lovely seeing how these old properties are getting a second chance by folks like you. Way better than the 9-5 grind. Congratulations.
Omg the men and length rounding up joke made me snort my tea 😂
My 63 year old knees cringe whenever you carry all those heavy bags…and Happy Birthday Jean!!!!

I don't really know how the terrain is laid but it would be nice if you could create a trolley system where you can just traffic the loads back and forth.
You need a powered wheel barrow on tracks. Brian
Agreed - it would ideally suit both the renovation and the garden work. 👍
Would love one, they are a serious investment we can't stretch to at the moment :(
A family working together to get a job done. Good to see. xx
I know it may not be within your budget atm but u could look into purchasing a motorised wheelbarrow which would serve you for all your gardening and construction purposes plus saving your backs from all that heavy lifting.
It is definitely on the shopping list for the future.
