one other fun side note: the SM.91 and SM.92 are utter terrorists in AB, that the SM.91’s gigantic burst mass means you can win every head on and SM.92 has big guns and with the AB speed/climb/engine crutch fights like a regular fighter. I love these two freak planes so I had to try ‘em everywhere. :D
thank you for doing more of these low to upper mid tier vehicle reviews these are by far the most interesting and diverse BRs in the game and no one has in-depth, talked about or reviewed these vehicles within the last 7 years
I honestly prefer many elements of its predecessor, such as the visuals, better offensive armament, and better defensive turret, but this has better suspended armament and better flight performance. Hard to choose.
Great performance for a heavy prop, and very heavy firepower to take advantage of it. Custom loadouts also gave this thing a boost in the ground attack department, since it can carry everything together now. One of my best accomplishments in Air RB is actually managing to get a kill with this thing's tailgun!
I've even heard some people say this is the XP-50 of the italian tree, so i was looking foward to this review. I guess that really does compute lol, great review.

Slightly annoying fact. If the SM92 had the same min fuel load of the 91 it would be better than the 91 in every performance metric. Better climb, turn, top speed, everything. With an hour of fuel it climbs slightly worse and turns slightly worse because it is carrying an extra ~500lbs of fuel. Many props actually suffer with their min fuel loads truly being excessive and the 92 is one of the props that actually suffers the most. Interesting that you didn't mention that the engines can get knocked out if the props are hit by gunfire. I'm curious if they have fixed that since the last time I flew the 92.
Min fuel loads for mid-tier props is ... an issue ... and I've griped to the snail about it many times. The min fuel shouldn't be longer than the mission timer when spawning in .....
@@TimsVariety They could make it so that fighters with lets say more than 30 min of min fuel get a small airspawn like 500 meters above the spawn airfield with a medium speed, some planes really need it. Maybe I could get the 47N above 4 km with some of my teammates still being alive for once if it was a thing.
Honestly I still prefer the SM.91 over the 92. That rear turret that shoots directly backwards is funny, but not exactly useful. I have gotten atleast one SPAA kill with it and that's enough for me.
I like the 92 more since it got a waaay more workable bombload and a P-38 level of manouverability: you're not going to use the turret if you're always behind the enemy
@@bzorf5984 well I also prefer the way the sm.91 looks with the centered cockpit. The Sm.92 having the cockpit off to the side and guns in the center just feels awkward to aim, especially in SIM.
Little known fact : If you think about a plane in WT hard enough, like clench your nerves until your body starts shaking and *really* focus, a Tim's Variety review will manifest out of nowhere.
Tim I have found that anything 'prototype' 'experimental' or never actually made. Are the very best in the game, since they didn't test them, have no real stats or papers on them so they just make them crazy good.
For the SM.92 once you touch down for landing you should actually pull up your flaps. I will help you not tip forward as much when breaking and you will slow down faster.
Disappointed you didn't use the tailgun :( I would had liked to see how it worked. I kinda like this design. It's different. Personally makes me think of the Neucom R-201 Asterozoa.
My experience is not like this video at all, the lack of armor makes this thing drop out of the sky with a stiff breeze and the issue of the right prop dying seems to have moved to the tail where few bullets implode your controls out from you. The cannons are great but often you can't get a good lock on anyone because this thing has some severe G-forces in realistic doing anything while in Arcade the head ons just result in M.A.D. . The SM91 was enjoyable by comparison though frustrating at times too and the worry is that one plane will be nerfed instead of issues being fixed like extra fuel (because it just has to be 30% of what it could carry!). This thing also can't make it back kind of defeating the twin prop nature.. Its been real frustrating for me. People sometimes even single you out in the SM planes probably because of the strike-craft indicator.
I like the SM.91 and 92. I kind of like twin-boom and twin-fuselage aircraft, but the weird, bulbous and useless tailgun on the 92 is ugly, and the weird R2-D2 Turret on the 91 is kinda ugly too. The would look so much nicer if you could stow the turret on the 91 and if the stinger on the 92 just didn't exist.
In my opinion, the Beaufighter MkVlc does everything this plane wants to do, but way better, and at a much lower br to boot. I’m basing this off of the performance in Arcade, but yeah, I just don’t like this plane.
Thing with the bombs is you dont actually have to compromise. It gets custom loadouts, and you can take the 2 500s and the 6 100s at the same time.

I love doing these kind of oddball midtier vehicles, but sadly they get 1/4-1/3 the views as whatever the latest high-tier hotness is.

Sm.91 and 92 were my favorite planes going through the Italian tech tree. You can catch a lot of people off guard by the flight performance.

I did try a few times, but I wasn't able to get any targets inside the FOV. Made a legit effort before writing it off as "basically useless" ;-)

Has anyone ever gotten a kill with the AI rear gunner? I haven't even had it fire once when flying this plane.
I don't believe I've ever had it fire on its own even once. The FOV is just too narrow.
