    That was the first time America got to see The Beatles, Feb 9, 1964. The whole world went crazy for The Beatles after that. The drumhead on Ringo's drum that says The Beatles, was drumhead number 2. There were 7 drumheads in all. The Ed Sullivan Show drumhead was sold at auction three years ago and it went for 2.2 million dollars. Even though The Beatles as a group broke up in 1970, they still earn millions of dollars each year. amazing. Please watch The Beatles Anthology DVD set.

    The Beatles were a one of phenomenon.. I don't think you will ever see a band who did so such much in 7yrs 1962 to 69. with such quality music. Remember the beatles were in their mid to late twenties when they broke up.. Totally amazing....

    It never ceases to amaze me how good they sounded even though they could not hear themselves because of all the screaming. Yet they still sang in tune and were able to stay together. That must have been extremely difficult when you think about it.

    Ringo Starr the drummer turn 80 years old in July. Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson did a song together 1983 Say Say Say would be a good one to react to.

    • @jerryb504
      @jerryb504 3 роки тому

      @lucy you probably know Ringo Starr was not the Beatles first drummer. It was Pete Best. Ringo has a distinct sound because he is left handed and learned drums playing a drum kit for right handed drummers.

    This was a time before computers, and I-phones. It was a new sound. That was considered long hair at the time. I was just finishing elementary school. You have to realize the equipment they used was never big enough to be louder than the crowds they played in front of. They said that could never hear themselves or each other. They just kept singing. A fun story Joe Walsh said he was at the Shea Stadium concert and unknown at the time his future wife was there as well. His future wife was there with her sister Barbara Bach who would become the wife of the drummer Ringo Starr. That made Joe who would later become the lead guitarist for The Eagles, the brother-in-law of Ringo. You just can't make this stuff up. If you want to know how music came to where it is now you need to sample music from all there albums to get an idea of what they contributed. Remember no computers very few ways to make other than standard sounds. These four kids from England often invented ways to change their sound. Thanks for your reaction keep listening to the Beatles, you can't go wrong.

      Also at the Shea Stadium concert were a few other future famous women....Linda Eastman (who married Paul McCartney in 1969 and is the mother of all his children (except Bea), future famous actress Meryl Streep and Whoopi Goldberg. None of them were famous at the time of the Shea concert.

      @@alonsoquirosgranados7568 the crescendo is up there and equal to Beethoven’s 5th. A masterpiece of a musical score (they used 9 pianos to achieve that echoing end) brilliant!!!
      In 1967 I was 13 yrs old, I had a newspaper route, I used that money to buy Sargents peppers LP. I listened to A DAY IN A LIFE over and over again totally enthralled by its genius (my father was a musician so I heard music everyday) to me this was musical genius. I played it to my dad and he said he’d never heard a crescendo like that in his life.

    A kid when I heard of the Beatles. Saw them on Ed Sullivan. A neighbor kid told me of their first LP, album. Purchased the album and many other Beatles albums. The first great rock/pop band to hit it big in America of the British invasion bands because of their Ed Sullivan appearances. Another George Martin produced band, Gerry and the Pacemakers from England, not as good but with some great songs.

    Frankly, it is difficult to evaluate the quality of this song through all of the screaming (1964). They couldn't hear each other and are a bit off-key. They were also nervous AF. 73 million people tuned in, myself included. Despite the terrible sound and screaming, we knew something had finally come that we were waiting for. Sure they had a pop sound here but before the year was up they would put out several albums of quality material (almost entirely written by them) and then here comes 'A Hard Day's Night'. It was stunning that they became so sophisticated so quickly considering they were on the road practically every day. When did they have time to write such great songs? And they never looked back. They stayed at the top of their game for their entire all too short career. Not bad for a group of guys who had no idea how to read or write music.

    You should do a side by side of the rehearsal for the show and the live version, they are spot on; you do not see that in most bands. I watched them live that night in 1964. BTW there is one more world famous singer on that night and he was near 18 at the time. Davy Jones sang I'll do anything from Oliver, he was the Artful Dodger. ua-cam.com/video/9hSYLLdKQx8/v-deo.html
