    Got a kit from Mace for about $330 cash and then fitting including front main oil seal at Maxx performance for $200.
    Would recommend fitting yourself because something developed a rattle after they did the work and they made no effort to assist diagnosing the fault.
    Am pleased with the improved power and response. Worthwhile mod for the money.

    I welded one up from some scrap metal . Dual purpose holds the harmonic so you can remove the bolt then bolt a plate with a big bolt
    turn and remove easy as. Cost $35
    for a flat plate bearing/wheel puller
    to bolt on. I made it from a huge 100 mm × 10 mm thick washer from the back of my sons dead subwoofer welded three bolts with a piece of
    small square steel 45 mm to make
    hooks to go behind the three arms/spokes in the harmonic ballance
    I taped four bolt holes put the puller on the came off easy.
    Oh year I welded a bar about 400 mm it sits on or under the shasie
    rail to stop the harmonic ballance from turning . I use the handle to
    keep the timing mark lined up.

      @Bigg Bhudda There's a few listings on eBay for just the balancer and one for the kit but at a bit of a premium price compared to when I got it. Not sure what the go is, may be worth checking with Mace Engineering to see if they're getting them back in to save some money.

    Good video mate, just wanted to add sumthing, you should always put sum rtv sealant on the harmonic balancer around the key to stop leaks, also, while ur swapping it out is a good time to replace the crank seal, especially if ur going to get rid of the tool.
    Keep up the nice work

    Good to see you back mate! I think the end result will show that many incremental changes will defo add up at the track! I know you have hinted at putting a LSD in, if you do - go a ratio change as well. In my opinion, it’s the biggest single thing you can do to wake up the car (and is bum dyno approved!)

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  4 роки тому +1

      @Meatball Garage Hey Marc, thanks mate. Fingers crossed you’re right, even if not the car is feeling great for what it is.
      Yep will hopefully be going LSD very soon, and I did consider changing ratios while it was out but decided against it at this stage for a few reasons. The car unfortunately has to do some decent highway kms still whether I like it or not and aiming to keep this to mods that pretty well anyone can do confidently at home themselves. Sure gears would be doable too but starts pushing a little beyond beginner stuff perhaps? Working on anything to do with this diff and cradle setup is a real pain as it is!
      Not to mention a line had to be drawn somewhere unfortunately, the next stage for this car is already burning a hole in my pocket too!

    Can definitely vouch for the underdrive kit!
    Installed it on my fg manual and I noticed alot better response with the throttle. AC doesn't have an issue unless it drops below idle. Not major, only fan speed drops with the rpm a little. At idle no issue and aircon still cools off plenty.

    Hmm , did very similar mods to an atmo FG sedan a few years ago , no underdrive pulley , but extractors , cold air intake and 3.46 diff gears with lsd in a 6 speed auto and then just got a mail order engine and gearbox tune. FG's are even heavier than the BA's .....hard to believe , I know !!! Even so , I managed a 13.6 @ 99 mph. Surprised a few people , including myself :)

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  4 роки тому

      @Ford AU Damn good time there mate! Those 3.46 are pretty short in the FG, are they 2.73 stock? Would feel pretty quick off the line, which will be the weak point of our 4 speed I think. Hopefully we can get the mph up closer to your figures though.

      @@BrowneysGarage I've gone down the other way, have a 998kw rebuild kit with 4.1 truetrac on rwd and an electric motor running the front 4.1 truetrac diff 400nm.
      I also have a v3hb vortech that was running off the same motor but have decided to run stock power and go hybrid straight to the wheels.
      Sold my pump and injectors and running stock power in the motor with the same 0-100 times as running 500hp before...
      Just quicker off the mark.
      Has an extra 3phase alternator that trickle charges at idle at 144-160v and peaks 168v.
      Lithium ion titanium cells in the back.
      Can shoot the cells with a shotgun and they'll still work. Great technology.
      Running 168v peak can set my power levels I the front to save on petrol charging and charge off solar at home or flick a switch and have maximum power from the foot throttle if needed.

    Good stuff mate, I will be doing pretty much the same mods to my grandpa-spec 03 BA Futura soon, same exhaust, same headers (I am assuming yours are PH4490's), same underdrive pulleys..where mine differs is my intake, instead of that Mace Engineering CAI, I have a Typhoon airbox (with the extra intake snorkel below the left-hand headlight), K&N panel filter, and an SS Inductions BigMouth intake (Snorkel inlet is about as wide as the radiator!), going through a Territory Plenum into the stock manifold.
    Speaking of the stock manifold, I also just picked up an FG N/A Intake manifold today for $100 (with the FG fuel rail, injectors (not that I am going to use them) and manifold bolts) and I suggest that as your next mod to do, its a little fiddle-farty, you need to get a bolt spacer kit for the BA injectors (I think these are the appropriate ones: chiptorque.com.au/product/fuel-rail-spacer-kit/ Though I still need to ask if they work with the N/A FG manifold or only the Turbo manifold, they look right at first glance), you need to either make an adapter plate for the BA throttle body to mount to the FG manifold, or just mod the TB itself, and you need the heater piping from an FG barra 195 as well, and need to mod it with some hose to plumb up to the firewall of the BA engine bay (And also in my case, you may need to source an FG oil dipstick), I also suggest pairing it with one of these while you are at it: www.maceengineering.com.au/COLD-AIR-INTAKE-MANIFOLD-INSULATOR-To-suit-EF-BF-6-Cylinder-UPPER
    Lastly you will need to fab up some sort of 3" pipework to go from the back of your Mace CAI to the TB, should be a short run since the FG manifold faces the back of the air intake box...I've seen blokes claim up to 20rwkw from doing this mod (after a custom tune ofcoarse) and this sounds reasonable to me, since the first barra engines were 182kw at the crank, and the FG's were 195kw at the crank, a good tune on 98RON combined with all the other supporting mods would see in or around 200kw at the rears (That's the figure I am hoping for).

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  4 роки тому +1

      @Glyn Atkin Hey mate, thanks for watching and sharing. Correct that this is running PH4490's.
      As far as the FG intake they do look promising and for an 'all out' NA build it would make sense to test this out but there are more plans for this car in the future where this would have to come off anyway. I'm very keen however to hear how you go and see results once you've completed this, sounds like it's going to be a tough NA combo that would surprise a lot of people.
      Regarding adapting the BA throttle body to the FG manifold, are you aware there's an adapter available to suit. Perhaps you are as you seem well across it but if not check it out - facebook.com/customalloywelding/photos/a.1101063416702619/1778062345669386/?type=3&theater
      Best of luck mate 👍

    • @glynkatkin
      @glynkatkin 4 роки тому +1

      @@BrowneysGarage I am aware of his work, I think he was asking $200 for the adaptor plate, which I'll probably end up just forking out for, out of convenience.
      Maybe 4.11 diff gears and an LSD should be your next mod then, since 4.11 diff gears are good for the strip, I'm personally thinking of going with 3.9's and an LSD as well as some of my other planned mods.

    Yaaaaaaaa!!! Browney's back! That must mean his postie visited him too!
    A performance mod, that may be interesting to some, could be diff ratios and if they are worth it on a car like this.
    This was a great video. Simple but still informative. Do you think Turbo Taxi runs one of these? :P

      @GlensGraphix Mr Glen you legend, good to hear from you. He sure did but unfortunately I can’t put all the blame on the fine people at AusPost! Quantity has slowed a bit here due to other factors and I really want these to be of a decent quality, as much as I can anyway. If that means less videos sometimes I hope people will understand and stick with us, and it seems they will thankfully.
      Awesome idea and it’s something I’d love to cover but don’t think it’s going to happen in this one just yet, the diff will be touched next though - are you reading my mind!?
      And poor Turbo Taxi and Scotty, the guy can’t catch a break at the moment.
      Thanks as always Glen 👍

      @Mr. Broccoli I'm sure poor Turbo Taxi wasn't running one but don't know if they're completely not worth it, increased efficiency is good for any engine. The dyno graph shown in the video is actually from a turbo car with 7-8rwkw gain I believe, so bang for buck $40-50 / rwkw doesn't seem terrible?

    It'd make your accessories rotate faster being a smaller diameter

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  4 роки тому +4

      Other way around as the crank pulley is smaller, this always throws me, so much so that I had to panic and go double check!
      Think of it this way. The smaller crank pulley has a smaller circumference and therefore for each rotation the belt is driven less distance. Anything driven off this belt (all accessories) is then spun less for each RPM of the engine. Hope that makes sense, and that my logic is correct! 👍

      11:00 - It's not earth shattering but I definitely think it made some difference. At very least it felt like it improved throttle response which made it more enjoyable to drive. Didn't expect that but I would do the mod again, I was happy with it.
