Couldn't agree more. Spent one day on the water with the new update and by the end of the day I had color limit back on 0%. Even at longer distances, I preferred it off. You nailed it with the Humminbird comment, it is an update that makes it look more like the picture you get out of the Mega LIVE. Which is a step backward in my opinion.
    *EDIT I'm a bass angler.

Hey bud I had an hour and half conversation with Garmin engineers today. They gave me some settings to try. Said they made some mistakes with this update and would have a small update to fix it soon. I will give it one more shot this weekend when I’m not working and post a video this weekend. They said it is not backwards compatible with new software. It took me two hours to actually get intodqy the lines were so backed up.

I agree on the detail going away but what I do like is you can run the color limit back down and it’s like your old settings. Also for us crappie fisherman it’s gonna be huge when we are sniping crappie in open water. Crappie love to go into creek channels now and suspend. But for us it’s hard to get within 30ft and not spook them.

Played with color limit yesterday. I prefer the blue color scheme, but color limit really messes that up. Went to yellow and dialed it in really nice. This was in down mode, ice fishing so I’ll use it at times. But overall I didn’t like it on any color but yellow.

I don't understand why everyone was so excited. It looks like an old fashioned Nintendo. You lose so much detail. What I have noticed is that after the last update the sonar signal is much stronger. I have noticed that the black box now consumes a little bit more battery. Leaving color limit off and just keeping the old settings is the best. I heard from someone at Garmin that the color limit will probably go away in a March update as well. Also they are fixing problems with the blue scene. Anyway, I'm happy with the new update. Menu items are much better, and the sonar signal seems stronger. I can now see my bait better in very deep waters, where I used to struggle to see it. I also love the blue color palette, but with color limit italso falls away and turns to black. Don't like it. Just keep Color Limit off :-)

In my opinion the download is a secondary gain control, and blocks out smaller returns by covering them with darker hues.. they are still there, but covered.
Sonar pics up returns by bouncing different radio frequencies off of objects., it is a very raw and unfettered process. how computer processors interpret these returns is all selective.. for the amount of returns shown on the screen, there must be an absolute bombardment of signals being sent out and recieved very rapidly.
when you can see the tail moving on a jig, its incredible. !!!

The color limit was made for muddy shallow water, I talked to Garmin after watching your first video I done the update and lost some of my Crisp image but after really dialing it in I’ve got it back it’s not made to turn all the way up it’s made to turn up in 2% increments, I have a fishing channel as well I’ve got my graph dialed in,
As for clear deep water color limit does nothing, but when you get in that 7-12ft muddy water it will really help, also color limit works better with perspective mode. Just filling you in, they after talking with Garmin they done this for shallow muddy water,

seeing baitfish are important, I have found when baitfish are surrounding brushpiles near crappie, the crappie wont bite. the baitfish know when the crappie are not feeding, how they know this I dont know. same with baitfish suspending in open water with crappie. the crappie will not bite.. crappie sitting on or near bottom with baitfish swimming around over them will usually bite. seeing the size of the baitfish in differerent areas is also important. if the baitfish is large like 4 inch, there will be bass around. and crappie wont compete with bass for large baitfish. If there is a large concentration of baitfish in an area, I will leave. I will find brush or timber near these areas. I had A crappie in an aquarium for almost a year. after it would feed on a few minnows, the other minnows would swim right in front of its nose with no worry at all. I dont know if baitfish can smell digestive gases, or see the tiny scales floating in the water after a crappie chews a minnow. yes, a crappie works a minnow or shad back and forth in its mouth before swallowing and the scales float around like tiny metal flakes.
also crappie will actually "park" on the bottom. they kicks thier bottom 2 fins out like kickstands, and thier tail sits on the bottom. the 2 fins next to the gills are the only thing that moves, circulating oxygenated water thru thier gills. all of what ive said here is not bullshit I heard, I studied this crappie and saw it myself. a crappie will feed up or down, and can see behind them. I saw this crappie facing completely opposite of a minnow behind it. with lightning fast speed, the crappie did a 180 degree turn from forward to backwards and nailed the minnow.., crappie are amazing, fascinating fish.

@@The_Garmin_Guru I can tell you things abt crappie and baitfish that will blow your mind,, for instance. did u know baitfish turn lighter and pinkish in cold water? this is wshy shades of pink work so good in wintertime.
also baitfish eyes do not adjust to darkness as fast as crappie.. this is why there is always a heavy feed at dawn and dusk. also crappie eyesight improve in cold water and crappie can regulate thier body temp slightly. the old claims that all fish are cold blooded is a myth.

    • @randy1ization
      @randy1ization 2 роки тому +1

water temp DOES NOT affect when and where a crappie will spawn.,either... crappie like to spawn in the same places shad spawn. the shad choose the most nutrient rich, oxygenated water. the mature females spawn in deeper water, 8 to 24 feet.. this is why mostly small males are caught near banklines,., males and females congregate together during spawning, the old myth that females come to the banks and drop thier eggs on nest is bullshit.. most of the males building nests on the banklines will not get eggs deposited..
most people miss out on the spawn because they are watching water temps and fishing shallow.
I start fishing DEEPER in the spring and work my way shallower.
timing of the spawning PROCESS , its not an event!!! has more to do with when females develop eggs.
in milder winters such as this year, they will develop them earlier.. if u pay attention to egg development now, you will have a good predictor of when they will spawn,, with the unusually warm winter were havbing this year I can gaurantee you they will spawn earlier this year. it could start in the next 2 to 3 weeks in my area, while everybody else is on the forums asking what temp crappie spawn in, and if the spawn is close, im catching big females and males in deeper water that are already spawning., Ive known this for years, and tried to tell people but they dont believe it, because the same myth has been told for generations.. with livescope, you will see it with your own eyes.
look for solid structure like big underwater trees, that dont move and have been there for many years. concrete structures, deep dock pilings, ect.

Well you jumped out of the gate with all your hype just to get UA-cam views and now you're eating crow. Maybe next time do some testing first instead of looking like a fool.

Yep my opinion changed. I’ll do that next time. Keep up your wonderful attitude. Sorry I changed my opinion on something. Nobody ever does that.

@Garmin Guru you do have to test before opinions, you might just change your mind again once you get to using it

@@The_Garmin_Guru My issue isn't that you changed your mind, it's your lack of testing prior to claiming the new update is the greatest thing ever just to get UA-cam views. Be trustworthy! It's a shame you think everyone that isn't praising you is a hater.

@@greghoward5957 I’m pretty trustworthy bud. So I made a mistake in my initial thoughts. And guess what I’ll make mistakes again. You don’t have to watch bud. I do appreciate that you did. Next week I’m putting out another video on the settings after playing with them for a week and talking to Garmin engineers for a whole day. My mood prolly gonna change again after that video. And that’s ok. It’s my channel and I’ll
Do whatever I want to with it. If you don’t like it. Don’t follow me and don’t watch. It’s pretty simple. I not a fan of Jacob wheeler so guess what I don’t follow him. Have a great day sir
