This has always been my favourite sonnet, a man who achieved so much before dying at 21, only regrets all the great books he has not read before his untimely death! What humility!
Amazingly sad poem. John Keats' parents both died before he turned 16, and John only lived to be 25 as he died of the same disease his mother died from, tuberculosis. Death was one of the main things he wrote about, as well as romance, this poem of course being about dying early before feeling complete with life. As he very well may have.
That's the sentiment I get too. Both heartbreaking and yet, for such a young man, he seems to have seen more than most. Imagine if he lived. What lines he still had left to write.
At this present time I am weaving together the plot for my first novel. In one scene, an elderly man whose mind begins to leave him is standing on a shore contemplating a dream which he realises now has slipped from his grasp. I was looking for some inspiration from RedFrost while writing, and then came across this extraordinary poem so started to listen to this recitation. "Then on the shore of the wide world I stand alone, and think Til love and fame, to nothingness do sink." Extraordinary moment. Thank you, RedFrost.
Shout out to A J Stafford - the most inspirational English teacher I ever had in 1981-83 - taught me to love the romantic poets. Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School, Marlow, Bucks, coincidentally next door to Percy Bysshe Shelley’s home.
Hi! By the way, have you understood it now? And, If yes, then is that understanding lies only in your mind, or, can you explain it too a bit to me? No puns intended.
Murtada H most poetry can only be understood by the poet. You can interpret it in your own way. Some people love how the words sound tougher or look at the meaning of the word or its historical context of the time period the poem was written.
The poor bored person stuck monitoring my life through my electronics if this is fact LoL! THAT would HAVE to be the worst, most boring job on earth with lousy pay. Of course I’m black listed! But I’m also old, retired and feeling sorry for whoever shares my phone. Seriously. Sad occupation but I guess somebody thinks somebody has to do it. My knowing makes it obvious I have no financial info in here and have warned everyone not to share topics of interest until alone away from my electronics. So it’s a curiosity to me how many have said, I quit. Life is too short and watching this makes my hours go too slow which may be a perk, but if this is all I had to live for…but she’s never going to kill herself obviously, so what is she living for? Day after day, are y’all sure she doesn’t have us on a loop? Naw this is my life haha! Everyone else, be thankful even if you deliver pizzas or bake them. You have the element of change. The poor puts watching through my lens is trying to think of someone to trade with or I just gave them that idea through my kindness. Goodnight :)
Russell Doran this is a beautiful poem. Thank you for sharing. Just had to comment with the elements of paranoia since Keats was speaking on fear. Put another spin on your poem through paranoid eyes, although my electronics were bugged at one time, making me feel violated of course. Hopefully that’s in the past. I am old now and did stop storing anything financial on here after I learned that government officials have rights to anything and everything. Unfortunately there’s a bad apple in every bag so once I went back old school I stayed inconvenienced by him. Thank you for sharing your beautiful writing. :)

Sometimes i have fears that I'm wasting my time but then I see works like this, I realise that I love poetry and it helps me find my peace and maybe my works will help other people too..
I wrote this poem on 2/28/21 enjoy! How? How do we sleep at night when there's so much suffering happening? How can we lead a peaceful life when there's so much to worry about? How are we not aware of what's happening in others lives closest to us? How do we frolic so easily when we know there's a possible danger right around the corner? How? How do I not question the world and the people in it?
How do you open perseverance to a man Whose eyes have seen nothing but the calm of summer How do you pacify a restless spirit Whose demons have lured it in the manner of saints How do you seek integrity at the dark hour When all the air around you is suffused with darkness How do you find the door to perpetual zenith When perspective confuses like three hundred crescents in the sky

What a beautiful poem on the transience of life. To ponder one’s own death is truly human. It’s what separates us from animals.
Not true
Im not thinking about death. Keats knew he was going to die thats why he was thinking about it.

"A thing of beauty is a
Joy forever".- John Keats.
It’s all one line
"The poetry of the earth
is never dead".- John Keats.
The best part of poetry is it's narration and if you mastered the art of narration you can rock it at any stage.
Big truth 👌🏿
The best part of poetry is the words.
True
True only of narrative poetry; a narrow statement.
can you rephrase that in the morning?
"Love is my religion-i could die for it".- John Keats.
"I want a brighter
word than bright".- John Keats.
:)
And stand alone and think.....
