Great review! I enjoyed seeing the old photo's of Superman: the ride, especially the old early 2000's. Fun fact: the initial reason why they covered the launch section of Superman: The Ride somewhere between the 2000 - 2003 season was that the ride would sometimes have technical issues due to the weather influences as the launch section was exposed to the elements. Especially during rainy days. Also, heard them say in a behind the scenes video from a couple of years ago that in the early beginning when this coaster just opened they had underestimated the amount of electricity required during launch, resulting that during that period, every time the coaster launched, a quick dip in electricity current could be experienced in certain areas in the park and inside of the nearby village
The last time I rode it, there was also an awesome fire effect by the burning subway at the end of the ride. Oh and the loading platform also has an element of scariness to it. The ride is themed to a subway that had an accident long ago and is now abandoned. It is now haunted by supposed self-driving trains. In a 'news report' you can see in the switchback queue, a journalist goes to Platform 13 since they're planning to reopen it. Then he is suddenly hit by a train and killed. Most people who have gone there have not returned. As you said in the review, the airgates block the view of the station. They only open when people are loading. Therefore you have seen the people before you stepping into the train. When they come back, the doors to the gift shop open, and when everybody has left, the doors close again. Only then the airgates open, so the only thing you see is an empty train. This makes it seems like the people who went to 'Platform 13' right before you have indeed not returned...
I love being behind the doors about to load and hearing the alarm blare louder and louder and then hearing the Woosh and pulse of the magnets paired with screaming
I am so excited to experience this ride next year, especially that queue. This ride always has been the most intriguing for me at the park, even more than Lost Gravity, Goliath or Untamed. Also that launch sound is sweet
Thanks for the heads up on the theming! I think the creepy theming would be too much for me, even though I'm both a railfan and a coaster enthusiast. Now I know to speedrun theough the queue and try (NOT) to appreciate the theming.
I have have a potential idea that could very well increase the intensity and reduce meandering: simply bump the launch speed to 60 mph. Though 5 mph faster may not seem like much, in order to attain this speed, the launch track would be a bit longer, thus allowing for higher forces and a faster traversing of the course (since it has less plain straight track between the launch and the inversions). Hopefully the forces would be no more than 6 Gs.
Fun facts. The original slc and boomerang are in Walibi aswell. The reason it can only opperate with 2 trains and the disney versions can go up to 5 or 6 is(if i remember correct) that disney has a contract saying no copy of the rock n roller coaster is allowed to opperate with more than 2 trains
The launch tunnel is really cool but what a weird option to go with a Rock and Roller coaster that's outdoors. I Premier Spegetti Bowls have an upside with being inside and an upside with being outside. The upside with being inside I'd that it's dark so you can't see anything abd you don't know what's coming up next, but upside, you see how close everything is and it's constant near misses all the time. I'd assume this is the sane thing. Weather you like to not see what's happening next or if you like the crazy amount of hand choppers. Also I find it odd how a coaster like this was themed to superman.
Love the queue. The ride itself unfortunately is just mediocre after the launch and the first inversions. It's not a complete clone of the Rock'n'Roller Coasters. Due to the missing onboard audio the train is quite a bit lighter. Launch track and break run are a bit shorter because of that. But that's just a little detail, I guess... Btw if I remember correctly the launch is a bit special on these coasters as they use a catch car for their LSM launch.
A rollover goes back and then heads back into the same direction as you just went, in a somewhat similar fashion to a loop. A sea serpent first has two half corkscrews to the side. It also sends you in the same direction you just went, but in similar fashion to a cobra roll, it first twists you to the side.
@@Kittyhat No from above a rollover looks kind of like a loop, while a sea serpent looks more like a cobra roll with one side facing the opposite direction. On RCDB you can find a list of which rides have a sea serpent and which rides have a roll over. Roll overs are usually only found on SLC's, while sea serpents are much more rare. Coasters that have sea serpents are the following: Smiler, Alton Towers Xpress and RNRC clones Steel Curtain, Kennywood Medusa, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom you can pictures of them from different angles that show you how different they are. Perhaps you could also use Google Earth or Maps for some of them.
If you go to the RCDB page of Medusa at Discovery Kingdom, the first photo you will see will have the sea serpent in the foreground. If you go to the RCDB page of Darien Lake's Mind Eraser, the 1st and 3rd photos will show you good pictures of the roll over from the front and side.
The tunnel has been added before the coaster opened at Six Flags due to the LSM launch. It was not rain proof so a tunnel was needed by Vekoma to prevent the LSM system from damaging the launch.
You are comparing themes. The coaster itself are all the same. The parks are responsible for the theming. ViVa Vekoma!!! 👊🏻 Best rollercoasters I’ve the pleasure to be able to ride: Holland, Paris and California. Punt uit 😜
I also noticed that if the crew is stacking, you’ll slam to a stop hard on the brakes, but if they don’t you continue rolling and it’s a lot more comfortable
This coaster is a bit hard to rate for me. I liked the creepy queue and it was my first launch coaster. The launch certainly didn't disappoint, very forceful! That being said, everything after that is forgettable, except for the inversions. Out of the 30 coasters I've ridden, this one comes in at 11th place.
The fact that they didn’t modify it to have a double load platform after the revamp so it looks like your actually exiting somewhere new is baffling to me.
It does feel like you're exiting somewhere new since you can't see the next people boarding and the doors that open to the gift shop is a radically different location.
@@CanobieCoaster oh sweet, I didn’t quite understand that from the videos and descriptions. Luckily I should be heading over there for my first time this summer so I’ll be able to experience it myself.
Clearly you either aren’t a Disney manager, don’t know about your own workplace, or just posting false info for internet attention, because RNRC is also a Vekoma. Arrow never made a launch looper besides the shuttle looper, which only 3 exist.

It's a neat touch with the load platform to play into the theme.
When you arrive back into the station it also announces the time from department to arrival so thats pretty cool

My very first thrill coaster. The added theme was a welcome addition during the decade long drought of not the park not adding any new rides.
I'm glad they have gotten a lot of investment lately.

@@Railstar_YT I don't know if you've already ridden it, but there are a few jumpscare's in the queue
And what do you prefer, a Vekoma coaster with forceless inversions or a Vekoma coaster with forceful inversions, or the two? What do you think?
Prefer forceful
2:59 similar to Rockn roller coaster showbuilding.
Same layout.
Does it have a LSM launch?
Yes
So flight force has also one it's Clone

That would add a bit of intensity, but the ride is popular as is with most guests.
What do you prefer, turns devoid of any laterals or turns with laterals?
With laterals.
Great video as always! Do you have any plans to make a trip down to Australia?
I'd like to in the next year or two.

I rode it 2 months ago. and man it got rough. headbanging all the way until the end
That's a bummer. It was fine last year.
What means "meandering"?
Moving about.
The entire queue line was enclosed when the attraction became Xpress: Platform 13.
Yes it was.
Hey, Canobie Coaster! I wish more of these ride models were built!
I prefer the new Vekomas though.
What would you rate Xpress: Platform 13? The coaster?
The answer is in the review. Pretty sure it was a 6.
I'm attempting to make an ultimate recreation of this coaster in RCT3 featuring the entire queue line gift shop and the hall of fame building
Sounds cool!
Never knew about the creepy theming! That's pretty cool, I guess it makes up for the missing donut lol.
or cool lighting effects.... oh wait paris also got rid of that so it went to the best of the 3 to the worst of the 3
The theming definitely compensates.
So what even is the difference between a sea serpent and a rollover then? just how far down it dips between apexes?
I think so.
A rollover goes back and then heads back into the same direction as you just went, in a somewhat similar fashion to a loop. A sea serpent first has two half corkscrews to the side.
