My first experience of Australian TV was Skippy ..but I was nineteen when the young doctors was shown in the UK also followed the Sullivan's, sons and daughters , prisoner cell block H.. country practice, heartbreak high shortland street, the flying doctors ..neighbours and home and away The Aussies produce brilliant dramas ..❤
As an Aussie watching The Sullivans was special because it really gave a good glimpse into what families went through during the war years down here. A much loved series here
Totally agree, they used to cater for what the majority of audiences wanted to see but nowadays, especially the BBC, their target aidience is minority groups & causes & political or preaching and tick boxing instead of pure entertainment, which is why, as a Brit, I have gone hunting for all things Australian!
@@richardpiva3892 oh well I dare say it was still shown in Australia long before the UK got it here . 🤣 And my knowledge of geography back then was, I admit ..not deserving of a high grade at school 🤣
This was mercilessly parodied in the "All New Alexei Sayle Show" sketches featuring "Psycho Ward 11". Jean Marsh even had the same hat as Cornelia Frances here.
"How pregnant are you?" "About half an hour Matron!!!!" Feels more like carry on! Not forgetting this hospital has a gift shop and a nightclub!!! I loved this show!
Some of these episodes were shown in the UK back in the early 80's. I'm sure I saw Clare Binney in an episode, but her entry in IMDb doesn't list anything for this series. I think the series holds up quite well for a series that made so long ago. Nurse Adams is a lovely looking lass.
Hahaha! That opening scene is a bit racy by 'Young Doctors' standards! 🤣 And the original opening credits were definitely something else... Thanks very much for sharing!
My aunty (well mum’s cousin) was Judy McBurney. Just watching to see her. Otherwise bit cringey but I’m sure in 50 years our grandkids will say the same 😅
Love the fashions decor cardboard sets with cardboard characters...that kept actors in jobs, still had that cultural cringe with enunciated tones from ac-toors 😮 most speaking very proper though they didn't hug the camera like most TV actors do now, it was a different less permissive time that was experiencing change, it feels less slick than TV today, pace lighting language attention spans have all changed & plausibility was less an issue than now.
I was a Goldstar Super fan of the Young Doctors...the characters that stayed came and went left indelible memories, the casting was A1 cherrypicked from other heavyweights like ',Cell block H, Sons and Daughters, and anyone who was a fan of the Paul Hogan show will never have any problems recalling Jo Jo Adams. But let's return to wards and corridors of the Albert. Another one of the Albert's heavyweights. Sister Scott, one of Sons and Daughters heavyweights, and became again as the Iron Matron, she too gave an impeccable performance, the doctors came and went and some left huge footprints that years and years still can't begin to scratch away at. The most Surprising thing for me as I was rushed back along the corridors peeping out from under the sheet on the trolley, rushing me for refueling, was that I may not have seen the 1st Episode...the wardsex with young Intern Rothwell surely I'd have remembered that, but I'm sure things will fall quickly back into place, as the drip takes effect rewatching the episodes available. Maybe it's the shock of not seeing the Other stalwart characters like Dennis the porter and his missus, and So I'll Bookend these comments by telling everyone new to this Wonderfull Hospital family.... 'Watch out for Ada' and the 'tuc bar 'bang opposite hospital reception. "Da..da..da...da..'Dar dar...Da..da..da..da..dar! 'Ta ra...Possums!
Loved watching this back in the day... Great cast. And here's to Cornelia Frances- the brilliant "sister Scott". RIP.
Me too. I was in primary school and the nurses and ladies was so pretty. :)
My first introduction to the wonderful world of Australian soap operas.
Suddenly I am back to coming home from school and watching all these.
Unintentionally hilarious credits. All that groovy dancing.
Yes. If I didn't know better, I'd say this was a sitcom about young doctors who spend too much time in a dance club.
@@LogoMan7777 I'd venture that was their regular bar haunt, "Bunny's".
Oh yes! 🤣
Definitely a sign of the times.
I remember watching these day time soaps with my nan over the school holidays.
Use to run as fast as I could from primary school to watch this. Forgot how funky that intro was.
Me too!
Me too, left skool at 3:25 it started at 3:30,
Same :)
@@smartchip😂 same here. School finished at 3.25. If I ran I just made it.
I used to love watching this with my grandma when I was about 7.

Also sons and daughters,
Miss the 80's

Out on dvd in June
Very true
😳😳😳 wow I'm 48 next month that lady looks like she could be my mother
MI5 or the FBI should use this series to get information out of people, force them to watch 2 episodes straight and they'd be in pieces on the floor.
I love it.
8:47 Geez! Politeness costs nothing!
Craig Rothwell.....my hero....got off with Jo Jo Adams and many of the hot nurses!!!!!
Excellent. I hope it gets a DVD release one day?
It did in two sets but they were only available in Australia. This is ripped from it.
I will look out for those - not too easy to find, apparently! Thanks

What on earth has Sister Scott got on her head?!
That is what charge sisters used to wear.
