“Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.” ― Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space
But first, you must give up all fear, all hatred, all anger and all shame and then you can be one with the universe. We are babies and are cared for by those, millions or billions of years ahead of us. Beings who have no competition, only cooperation. Compared to what we will learn, we know almost nothing, yet we are eternal and have millions of lives to experience.
Every time I think about this the sheer beauty of the thought blows my mind. It's a truly wonderful and marvellous universe out there. I don't see why people would voluntarily close their eyes to this.
Wonderful stuff from Tyson, and so much better without the bleeding music track added to the other version. But wait a minute, what's this at 2.00? Oh gawd, more lift music! Magic words drowned in inane tinkling.
Both Carl Sagan and Neil DeGrasse Tyson are wonderful representations of what we should all strive to be like. Comparing these two men, and touting which is better, is pointless and totally detracts for all the wonderment and awe that both of them have worked so hard to share with the rest of the world.
@authorless I believe you are asking me to state who I got the comment from. It is a composite that includes, my existence for I don't know how many lives, the info that I've picked up and built upon and transitioned from. In other words the source is made up of innumerable experiences and thoughts and realizations. I think that is as close as I can come to answering your request. All is well and always will be.
I am like a modern day scientist, confronted with a completely baffling problem and my ego will not let me say "I don't know"; so I make shit up. It really is possible to have a little bit of insight, despite only having 3% of our DNA active/connected. We are here to put ourselves at a tremendous disadvantage, so that we grow into our fullness, even from this deprived corner of existence. I am that I am, you know, just like Jesus but not as developed as him. Do not worship or obey. Think.
"Our solar system is a prison and those that escape, do so by complete implosion of their DNA and exiting through the Sun at the speed of light" ... but you just called yourself a scientist.... that wou8ld be a rather declarative statement in the absence of any evidence at all.
Oh, you believe in fairies? Well, my argument still stands ... for religious people as well as non-religious. Perhaps you should read about it and do some critical thinking.
There is life elsewhere, the universe is too big for it not to be. The very fact we have living people in space proves its possible for life to escape this little planet.
See, it's like the most vocal religious and atheist people just don't get it. Being vulgar detracts. Yes, it matters what religious people have done to our species and what harm they continue to pose ... but all you have to do is look at the Civil Rights Movement and the Feminist Movement to see how aggression works out. Not positively.
I agree, I don't like comparing people either.. but NDT is going to host the new COSMOS... I honestly can't think of anyone better. So that does say something about the two
something that just exploded in space is the reson we're here right now, if that one thing never happened who knows what anything would turn out to be. it's just crazy to think about.
@SKewLT My absolute favorite part of this entire argument is when he calls you a nimrod. You know, from 'Nimrod'. The one called "a mighty hunter before God" in the Bible. But he must've meant it ironically. Because he's religious. So he definitely read the Bible.
Lol, I watched the video with the music so many times, my head still plays it.

It's back up now. It was gone for a few days though. Don't know why
Glad to hear it.
if only everyone in the world thought like that, it would be such a nicer place to live
Rare combination of quality computer graphics and profound sense!
Considering the fact that Carl Sagan has been dead since 1996, it really doesn't . . . and again, they're both truly inspirational men.
beautiful and true

thank you

Yeah I realize it's back. When I made that post it had actually gone down for a bit. I guess the outrage was big enough
You try to give the video more brightness it will be great if you do
They didn't take it down...

What happened to the original video with the music???????
Whats the music on this? lovely.
@TotalImplosion [citation needed]
Could you give a citation for this quote, I am not finding a source for it.
So the stars we see at night led to our creation?
5 years ago dude
The video and [music?] are distracting from the narration...
Oh, my bad!
Could you translate that? It currently makes no sense to me.
For the love of all that is good in this world pleeeese be a troll. Dr. Tyson just explained it in the most elegant way possible. Take Astronomy 101.

I think I hear some vocals though.

Watched some, seemed like nonsense to be honest.
thanks for posting this without the gay music :)
Thanks for the offer but I'm good
Thumbs up if the top comment from m83's 'Wait' brought you here
without this music i don´t get this special feeling. but it´s very interesting btw.
greetings from Germany ;)
I heard this first with the music and I still like it, but I miss the song. It was a great music choice.

@authorless "Always listen to people who say they are searching for truth, never those, that say they have found it" Albert Einstein
Thats not what brought me here but you might be interested to know that M83 is also the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy :p
Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson is the Carl Sagan Legacy....
to build a home - the cinematic orchestra
But the idea that some "God" did isn't?
