yea but it doesnt work for me. if i merge the original layer with an empty layer above it.. it just keeps the white background and nothing happening. i wonder what could i do wrong. it looks so easy here and i was so glad i've finally found a good solution..but it seems like no shortcuts for me..
alright. just so you know.. if you skip the "layer style blend if grey adjustment" thing, it doesnt work... but after i tried that also, it magically started to work. and i'm also high right now, maybe thats part of the problem too.
Inspired me to start hand lettering, after watching a lot of your videos. Being a graphic designer there's always new tools popping up to help with my work but sometimes nothing beats a pen, a bit of paper and hours and hours of practice... Cheers Ste!
Looks amazing! By the way, if you hold alt and click between the layers 4 and 3, the layer on top would only apply over the layer under it. (try it and you'll understand what i mean) I think it's a bit easier and quickier
When you merged the "C" and the "l" together it would have been a good idea to select the eraser and just take a soft large brush and click on the part where the "C" wraps around and connects to the "l", and it would have made the gradient between the "C" and "l" completely seamless. Looks great either way. Good job!
Great tutorial! I'd work non-destructively though, using adjustment layers and keeping them as smart objects and at 16:30 just Alt-Click between the two layers to automagically clip the top layer :)
thank you for your awesome tutorials, I've recently just jumped back into Illustrator after 6 years of not touching on it..great inspiration to push me forward to get back into art.
This video is captivating and masterful (apart from the advertising, but artists gotta eat, we get it). It's such a joy to watch your tutorials, can't wait to give it a go.
awh thank you man, I honestly really appreciate that comment! I thought people would be bitching and crying because of the sponsored ad, so Im glad you understand! :)
For limiting the shadows to only show on the type layer, it would be just as easy to just create a clipping mask from the shadows onto the text! Either way, great video! :)
ahh yes! Ive never been one for using clipping masks because I never really understood them that much for some reason, but since recording this video, I have finally took some time to get to understand what they are, and I actually use them now :D You will see in one of my future tutorials where I use a clipping mask for a texture! Thank you for your input and advice though, hopefully it will helps others :)
I was thinking the same. Maybe it was just a more comprehensive process. Nonetheless, this is a great video and tutorial. Knowing how to keep the brush texture is very useful.
Hi man i try to contact you last week through email, but so far I got no answer :/ you still accepting freelancing? Really like your work and want to put it in some designs.
Hey, great tutorial! Question: what if paths cross? would it be ideal to use the scissors tool or the shape builder tool? I'm kinda stuck doing trial and error for now. Thanks in advance!! -Edwin
This is a great tutorial! I'd love to learn how to do the splash effects around the text on some of your other tutorials. Maybe I just haven't stumbled across the right video yet. Or is it just splatter brushes? thanks!
Great tuto. I'm really much more in video rather than photo but I don't know how I can animate things like your intro. I mean on the fondamental concept: Do you have your logo as a picture that you animate with masks or do you really make your logo in after effect?
If you were to vectorize this(to be able to size it up and down without quality degredation) How would you trace this perfectly as it is without compromise? Making it into a vector
You should blend the "C" to "larity" with a layer mask and a soft brush before you merge them. After you merged the two layers you can still clearly see where one layer ends and the other one begins.
great buddy we need more and more handlettering tuts bcz there r very rare techer like you :p do take care of your youtube students from time to time my friend plz +ste bradbury just loved this tutorial man
Sick !!! I was always wondering how you do the step between the scan and photoshop , that's help me a lot. Good work man, keep going :) Do you use a particular scan for this ? Because I've been trying with mine and this is kind of messy , there is too much pixel. :/
I really enjoyed with this work brother! Greetings from India! I am one of the very old subscriber of you! Could you please do another video on this kinda lettering tutorial with Oil Painting Brushes instead of brush pen as you showed in this? What do you say?
That trick of removing the original scanned background with layer options is so cool - thank you for sharing!

Dude! thank you so much for this. Giving away this information for free is crazy.

After so many Canadian and American channels, I love hearing a fellow UK Northerner, and delivering such quality videos! Cheers pal!

Doesn't like as complicated as I thought it was gonna be. Thanks!
