If you want your lettering to have a more realistic look, I have just posted a new tutorial showing you how how to do it! Check it out - ua-cam.com/video/L5eG7KFL3rk/v-deo.html
Something I forgot to mention is this video. If you having the problem where the ends of the paths look weird (like the top image in the screenshot), all you need to do is adjust the angle of the gradient to match the start of the path (as shown in the bottom image in the screenshot), this will make everything flow smoothly. Ideally, you want the starting point to be on a similar angle to the ending point so that both the start and finish look smooth. I hope this makes sense! :D Here is the screenshot - gyazo.com/1a78b32d36fc676bcb3d0e130eaba6b4
Hey, nice Video. Thanks for that. A quick tip, if you do not know it by now: You do not have to dim the image to 50% and lock the layer afterwards. You can just hit the "template" checkmark and it does the exact same thing for you. Just a small tip, but perhaps you did not know about it. What I like about doing it that way is, that the "eye-symbol" next to the layer changes and the layername becomes cursive, so it is easier to distinguish template layers from normal (locked) layers.
thank you very much. it is really high level designing idea, but it is better if we can do all process in illustrator only. for me I don't know possible or not.
2 years too late... btw it's 100% possible and very easy to do it. cut the white font with pathfinder, clipping mask or any other method.. then use gradient tool and blending mode for the shadow effect
shhh... you'll alert the trolls hahah! I was actually quite shocked in all honesty. This tutorial has had an amazing response, so many people tagging me in their work on instagram after using the tutorial, iv'e never had this many people actually use it right after watching it haha! Thanks for the support man, I appreciate it!
Great tutorial, I followed it step by step and it turned out perfect. Very easy to follow, learned some great techniques in both illustrator and photoshop! THANKS!!!
It was really amazing✌🏻.And you are good at descripting thorughout the tutorial. It gets into the head very easily.👍.Looking up for more interesting font and design ideas in your channel.
For those of you having trouble with the stroke path looking airbrushy or whatever when applying reflections.. basically, it will reflect the current brush settings you have on. So I encountered this problem when i tried adding the reflections after doing the shadows, and the stroke path came out looking brushy. so i set my brush settings to full opacity and flow, full hardness and reduced the brush size and it came out like in this video
And if it's not coming out with the 'pressure' look, like sharp ends and a bigger centre, it's because you dont have the line-width option turned on (the pencil with the circles around it next to the airbrush and flow settings)
Great video, dude! I watched most of your tutorials and boy, how I like it! You explained things in a very simple and understandable way yet the results are always so satisfying. Definitely trying this soon! Please do keep up the good works :)
Awesome like always ! I follow you since 3 years and I'm so happy that you finally do a lot of great tutorial to learn this awesome art that is graphism and handlettering ! Don't stop, keep enjoying your art and Happy New Year !
this looks soo good even tought i've never done anything in photoshop this will be my first try out shame PS isnt structured like AE great work man love it !!
At first awesome tutorial! I have a question: How did you get the lines this perfect in Illustrator because all the time im trying to use the pen tool with my Typo it looks weird specially on letters like the "e" or "i" because its not smooth it is getting super edgy
Great clear and concise tutorial! But I'm running into a bit of a problem. Once I replace spine I find that my text is very thick and crowded. I don't know if it's because of how I drew it out but it doesn't look as spaced out as yours
i havent tried it for myself yet at 7:00 but i would use direct select to get the front line and cut it, paste in place and then put the other line in between
Thanks for this amazing tutorial :) But I've a problem. When I try to make reflection by using stroke path feature, the width of the whole path remains same (start point to end point). I want it to look like yours (start and end point is thinner). How can I do that? :) TIA for your answer.
Awesome tutorial! Just tried it - only issue I had is with the highlights. I followed exactly what you were doing but for some reason they werent fading in and out the way yours do (mine looked like a solid line) which didnt look natural at all. Any idea why this may have happened?
Love this tutorial!! BUT: When I try to do it the blend(illustrator) text looks pixelated, a bit in Illustrator, but it gets quite bad in Photoshop. I have tried exporting in different sized and file types. played around with anti-alias, tried copying vs. placing. I simply can't figure out what is going on. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Just tried this... love it! I'll post on insta and tag you. Great videos I've followed a couple of others as well :)
In Illustrator, you can use the scisors tool to cut the two paths apart
as far as the t, you can duplicate the later and use the same technique you would use to apply the white type over or under the color..
that was maaad bro
It is amazing!
Thank you for this tutorial! So good!
great tutorial !
i havent tried it for myself yet at 7:00 but i would use direct select to get the front line and cut it, paste in place and then put the other line in between
amazing! thanks buddy!
You're welcome! :D
I've tried this a few times but when I try replacing the spine, it never gives me that option. Thoughts as to why this is happening?
Thanks for this amazing tutorial :) But I've a problem. When I try to make reflection by using stroke path feature, the width of the whole path remains same (start point to end point). I want it to look like yours (start and end point is thinner). How can I do that? :) TIA for your answer.
th studio trying to figure out the same thing myself! I clicked simulate pressure and nothing 😢
Click on Brush. Then select the button that looks like a pencil over a target on the far left of the Brush top toolbar.
Awesome tutorial! Just tried it - only issue I had is with the highlights. I followed exactly what you were doing but for some reason they werent fading in and out the way yours do (mine looked like a solid line) which didnt look natural at all. Any idea why this may have happened?
