How to Heat Seal Plastic Bags Without an Expensive Heat Sealing Machine

- Don't want to spend a bunch of money on a heat seal machine? Use a flat iron instead!
It takes about 3 seconds to seal the bag. So easy and safe.
I made this video because I was searching for how to do this and a bunch of websites said it isn't recommended doing such a technique. But they also wanted to sell me a $200 heat sealer. Lol.
So I figured out how to make this flat iron technique work to heat seal a barrier bag!
Simply place your flat iron on the lowest temperature possible. Use aluminum foil to guard the plastic, this keeps it from melting. Then clamp down on the plastic bag, for about three seconds.
Make sure not to cover the notch part, where you rip open the bag.
I sure hope you enjoyed this plastic bag sealing hack! Please give it a like and subscribe to my channel for more great content.

Very helpful. Thank you so much. I used aluminum foil and my fiance's hair iron to seal the package. Very efficient and money-saving. Thanks again.

Thanks! This is really big help
Glad it helped!
Mind blown!!
Wow. Thank you for making this video. I recently bought a bag of 100 4oz stand up pouches at a place that sells pallets of Amazon returns and wasn’t exactly sure how they worked but for $5, I was willing to figure it out. I was starting to lose hope and found your video. You rock!
Glad I could help you! Saved me a couple hundred bucks on a sealer!
Thank you kind lady !!!
True savings !
Keep teaching us
Thank you so much lovely!
You are very welcome!
Oh my gosh thank you so much I went to buy one on Amazon and was like WAIT A MINUTE! Those look like HAIR IRONS lol
Thank you!!!
They have the heat sealers on amazon for 20 bucks now. ☺
So I have found that you need about two to three seconds TOPS to get the seal with the flatiron! I got these bags at ULINE but I now purchase from Papermart. Cheaper and faster shipping.
Thanks!!!!
Thank you
IT's cool👍👍👍thanks
Thhhhaaaaaaank you!
Thanks a bunch 🤗
You’re welcome 😊
Awesome Idea, Thanks.
Genius
Thanks a lot I’m gonna try it n I hope it will work ❤️
Did it work?
This is the best video on the subject I've seen. Just a side question though do you ever have a problem with your seeds molding ?
I haven't had any issues with seeds molding. However, I do put a desiccant pack in my seeds, and I store them in a fridge on the "cool" setting. That seems to work out just fine.
Quick question- I know nothing about flat irons & Im just learning how to use mylar bags so excuse me if its a stupid question but can you just put a layer of aluminum foil on the flat iron and use it like that? Thanks & great video!
“Couple hundred dollars”
Lol bruh check out Amazon. Talking 15$ for a sealer.
But hey. You’re honestly smarter than me. I’m here trying to learn how to do this lol.
Thank you for the video! Definitely helped
I suppose there are different price points for heat sealers. The pro ones are super expensive. Still doesn't beat the price of a dollar store flat iron! 😆
Thank you so much for this! I thought I'd be able to seal them with the heat gun but I quickly learned you cannot.
@rusticskills wow amazing tip, Love it 💯👏🏼!!
Does this technique work on cellophane ?
You can try, but I think the cellophane will be too thin. Put your flat iron on the lowest setting and triple the thickness of tin foil.
@@RusticSkills Thanks so much for your reply!! Yass,, great tips, I didn’t think to triple the foil 😃👍🏼
Thank you
Let me know if it works!
I used my curling iron, with a single layer of notebook paper going around the metal circular part (taped tightly, with no tape anywhere it will directly touch metal), and another layer of paper on the metal piece that opens, again taped no tape where metal of iron goes. Then I just roast the new edge 5-10 seconds on each side, and it's 100% done!!
Good tip!
Wawu, you are so cool hahaha
Hello, are you using the Uline Matte Barrier Pouches in this video because I just ordered what looks like the same pouches from Uline and I was going to buy a direct heat sealer but this is definitely a more economical option!
Yep! They are from Uline! I wish they sold in smaller quantities.
Thank you!!! :)
Does this work on cello bags
hey I was jsut wondering how strong is the straightener? I googled online and you can get a straightener with 50 watts for 30 dollars, but straighteners with 240 watts are sixty dollars? How many watts does your have? :)
I literally have a $5 flatiron and it works great. Essentially all straighteners get so hot, any type should do the job!
eyy its my flat iron. thanks. i'll finally use the darn thing. how many layers of foil did you put?
The foil is only doubled over once, and it takes only three seconds to seal the plastic.
Thank you for this. I was just about to spend unnecessary money. Also, what temperature did you have the flat iron on?
She said the iron only had one setting, super hot.
I set it to the lowest setting possible, flat irons get really hot! And I hold for not more than three seconds.
Hey! I’m interested in those seeds. Tell me more!
I actually don't sell the seeds at this point anymore, but if I do in the future I will let you know!
Hi. Where did you get the bags from ?
I got these from ULINE, but I recommend Papermart as they are cheaper and faster at shipping.
Where can I get bags. Or can I use any bag. Curling iron has 1-8 setting
I got these bags from ULINE. I had to buy in bulk which made the purchase expensive, but the price per bag was cheap.
What size of bag is that? And where did you get it? ☺️
This is an 8x5 bag and I got it from ULINE, but I recommend Papermart as they are cheaper and faster at shipping.
If the package was ripped open would this work to seal it again with the piece of the packaging that was ripped off as If the package was never opened?
It all depends on if there is enough plastic to seal, and how the person opens it. If you actually cut it with scissors, trying to keep as much plastic as possible, it could work.
Nice idea and very useful but shouldn't you be vacuum sealing those seeds? If you are vacuum sealing them using your straightener, please make a video to show how you are doing it please?
I literally suck the air out with my mouth!
Will this work on the same bag but made out of paper?
If it's built for heat seal, it should be OK. I would only hold the iron for one second and do a test run first.
did it work on paper bag?
I have done some testing on paper and it seems to work!
Would this would for the Amazon packaging
Yes, it seals perfectly and looks professional.
A hot glue gun, a aluminum foil, a wood chop board, and a wood ruler for guide line can do the same. And some times, I also hot fuse dots on plastic sheets every other inches along a guide line only, so it doesn't look too much wrinkles all the way too.
I prefer my method but those are good suggestions
how many times did you fold the aluminium in layers? Twice?
Its a two fold, yes.
question, how did you open it and get the product on the inside after ripping the seal( the top part where it allows to break open the bag) did you reseal the bag by reattached the piece you ripped off? I hope this makes sense hahah
When you first open the bag you don't need to rip the top off it should just open it can be a bit fiddly but then you can put stuff in then use the heat seal to seal the bag
@@AdmiredGenie9 thank you soso much! major help
It was just a test bag. Once its ripped, its done!
Interesting - I never used foil, just went 'bareback' with the flat iron on mylar and never had a melt. Maybe I've been lucky?
Huh! I never tried without foil, didn't want melted plastic on my flat iron. Maybe its a different material??
Same here, I just tried it without foil and it was fine!
too hot for zip-loc bags? Would they just melt?
Probably too hot for a standard ziplock. If you try, leave it on for less than a second!
I want to skrinkbwrap my deck of xards
To shrinkwrap a deck of cards, you will need the following materials: shrink wrap, a heat gun or hair dryer, and a flat surface to lay the deck of cards on.
Cut a piece of shrink wrap that is larger than the deck of cards.
Lay the deck of cards in the center of the shrink wrap and fold the sides over the top and bottom of the deck.
Use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat the shrink wrap. Make sure to hold the heat source close enough to the shrink wrap to shrink it but not too close to burn it.
Use your hands to smooth out the shrink wrap and remove any wrinkles.
Continue heating and smoothing the shrink wrap until it is tight against the deck of cards.
Trim off any excess shrink wrap.
What about a food seal machine ? I have one
As long as you protect the plastic from melting, it should work!
Thank you now I can bag my weed better
It is airtight
Maximum Off Grid 👍🏾 yep just push all the air out before closing it then seal , it worked out nicely
Better to suck the air out
WHERE DO YOU GERT THE BAGS
I got these ones from ULINE but I now prefer Papermart for better prices.
I thought metal would be worse for the flatiron
Surprisingly not. I haven't had any issues with the foil!
Either you're funny or I'm really old. The device you are using is for hair. A flat iron is something your great grandmother used to iron clothes before there were electric clothes irons. Either way thanks for the tip.
You're both right. Flat irons were those vintage irons but what she is referring to is also called a flat iron. She's aware it's usually for hair. In fact, that's the entire point of the video. To use a tool she already has rather than buying an expensive sealer
dude you dont have hair, how would you know?
