Very nice mate! The runway a Welshpool looks quite narrow compared to Carlisle and Blackpool! Can't wait for the rest of the series

    Enjoyed the video.
Could I ask why you didn't fly the standard overhead join and slot into the traffic pattern that way?
You seemed to squeeze yourself in via a direct long final instead.
    Thanks.

Here's my report!!: Nice video Ben. Pleased to see the Liverpool transit - wondered how easy that was. Nice to see you flying in the vicinity of SWB and Hawarden, as I became somewhat familiar with that territory recently! All the best.

I've never seen so many transponder code charges in such a short flight.
Any reason these controllers can't communicate with each other?
    Thanks for sharing...... busy flight.

+davet11 Hawarden did try and hand me over to Shawbury LARS which was really nice of them - I just think it was a busy day there was lots of traffic around so it's difficult for the controllers to communicate then. Thanks for the comment!

Plane Old Ben Flight following in the US rarely involves a change in transponder code....transponder codes are automatically handed-off/transmitted via landline/internet to the next radar facility.
The primary radar dot on the screen then has secondary radar (transponder) information associated with it...altitude, tail number, start and destination, aircraft type etc on each radar facility's screen along the route. If you're getting a new code at each stage along the route, it sounds as if your originating/destination airport/tail number/aircraft type/equipment info isn't being communicated between facilities.
With 4096 possible codes, I doubt it could have been that busy....there shouldn't be the need to assign a new code every time you talk to a new controller unless there are thousands of aircraft transiting the area.
Seems to be a systematic difference that puts a greater workload on the pilot over there.
Anyway, great flight and thanks for sharing.

It's different in the UK to the US! Each radar controller has their own block of squawk codes unique to the unit, for example, Warton Lars have 3641-3660. The reason for a new squawk code is to change onto the units allocated batch of squawks!

      Plane Old Ben
it's actually the same here, but when getting flight following we're able to preserve the same squawk....when a controller sees a squawk code which isn't from his own block of codes, he knows it was assigned elsewhere and someone's getting flight following.
The reason for preserving the original code is that it preserves all the associated info from that radar hit - tail number, equipment, destination etc..
There must be a technical reason that they can't communicate that info on the ground and achieve the same thing there to lighten up the pilot and controller workload. "nextgen" is even going to automate the frequency changes and altimeter settings over here.
It's interesting there's a difference - you're essentially having to do what I do when I cold-call a controller for the first time but you're having to do it for each controller along your route and it sounds like that's happening just because these controllers aren't in communication with each other.
Don't think we're going to fix anything on youtube but maybe go in and rattle a cage in a control tower or something to see if you can fix it. :-)
