& yes, i am half Romanian gypsy & damn proud of it! but srsly, dont ask me about my heritage or the secret aspects of the gypsy culture because i wont tell you. just how it is ^^
@jojasr learn about your culture :) do research ask questions! Your culture is an important part of you! as for living in mexico....awesome...my parents are from there and their culture is filled with beautiful music too...lucky person to be able to enjoy two wonderful cultures :)
It is actually pronounced more like the English word "sake" and "e" (like in 'end') and "y" on the end. The accent on the first "e" makes it long, like a long "a". The Hungarian "sz" = s in English; "s" = sh and "zs" = zsh - like the second "g" in garage.
@mucificatorul um you are wrong. Romani is the correct and proper term. Romania is a country. Gyspy is a common nickname basically for the Romani same as Indians for Native Americans ect.
@sharinganbyakugan yeah that`s how we call them Tigani or cigany but most ppl from other countrys call them romani and that`s my only problem i hope you understand you can see in my response to the frist comment have a great day (and they come from india)
It is said that gypsies originated from India, so they naturally have an Indian feel to them, but because they lived all over the world, roaming about, they acquired traits of other places. In the first dance, the movements are clearly movements of a Russian/Ukrainian dance, if you search, you'll see that Russian men often dance like that.
an by the way the ppl that live in Romania r called Romani and the gypsys r called RRomani (with 2 R if you can see ) and this name was given to them by the comunist i just listed below so pls don`t talk just because your borred
They are Polish gypsy. Still it could be filmed in Hungary At some point they are singing in Polish: "we were travelling beyond Warsaw" In my city is living 300 Gypsies. I've never seen drunk Gypsy. Selling cars. They have no education - that's right. Social system isn't giving them too much help... The music they are playing is wonderful - a miracle...
+chokar123 Glad that you liked it! The dancers are great, too. They are Hungarian Gypsies - songs can talk about lot of things :-) These people speak in Hungarian and do songs and dances from Nagyecsed, Szatmar county in Eastern Hungary.
+Andrea Gerák No love. Just in the beginning is the sentence: "za warszawe my jechali". This is language of Polish Gypsy. From the other point of view you could be right. Most of lyrics is in Hungarian... Maybe they have just plotted in this small piece of Polish. Cheers...
chokar123 That might very well be - they are picking up language pieces from various ethnic groups. However, as far as I know, there are no Polish Gypsies in Nagyecsed or around. In my studies of Hungarian folklore, especially folk songs and dances (including this very dance of what they are doing here), I never heard about it. Maybe you can enlighten me, I am always happy to learn. I have no time to write here all the Hungarian that they are saying - and what would be the point anyway? If you don't believe a Hungarian telling you that they speak in Hungarian in the video, ask a few more Hungarians or Gypsies... :-)
+Andrea Gerák By all means we are not arguing. 00'36'': "za varshave my yekhalee". That's pure broken Polish. I believe to you that it is Hungarian or maybe partially Sinti or Roma. Only this sentence was sometimes haunting me. Cheers.
@mucificatorul - Poor... Very poor. Please don't offend me just for giving you a good piece of advice on how to get better knowledge. I know that most small minded people refuse any advice. God bless them. PS. I definitely can see the high level of YOUR education just from the quality of your response... Very creative, imaginative and ever so convincing... Classy even! and Good luck for the future anyway - you will definitely need it :)
@mucificatorul you dude get some info and try and find a difference between Roma / Romany and Romania / Romanian. Good luck but please don't die trying...
Im part hungarian, but i dont get how some hungarians lok slightly asian but some are white and ginger, anyone know why?or is it that the white ones arent all hungarian?
Hungarians are a mixed race. The people that live here today are all a meshed result of the many conquers, conquerors and immigrants to the land across history. You would be hard pressed to find any other country, where the original inhabitants of the land are dwarfed/ extinct, by the numerous other ethnicities flowing in since the founding. Now, we are all Hungarians though, with very few distinctions, like gypsies. You could name sváb, székely, tót etc., but it's not the same.
We know SylentHeart is wrong and you are right, but do you have to use so strong words? If Gypsies should go back to India, why shouldn't Romanians go back to Italy? No people can do anything about it's history. The misunderstanding of Romani and Romanian will be more frequent since more countries ban the word Gypsy in favour of Rom(a). The best we can do is to explain. To sum it up: Romanian and Gypsy music is among the very best in the whole wide world, especially when mixed.
Gypsy blood. they gypsies settled in Romania. Romania= Land of the Romani or Rom, meaning gypsy. & Romania is neighbors to Hungary. as we all know, borders over the centuries shift so it's possible that numbers of the population of Hungary are of gypsy descent. & the gypsy culture & race is thought to have originated somewhere in the east, possibly India. but since the Romani dont tell their tales to Gaje, which is the Rom word for a non-gypsy person, it's really difficult to say for certain.
It does, although it's kinda weird (to me, and without insult intended)... In Hungarian, the letter 'sz' is pronounced as English would 's'. So it's quirky that you use the 'z' (as in zebra) instead of 's' (as in sand). Anyhow, if I was to write 'székely' in English with close to the original pronunciation, it would be 'sekay', with the 'e' pronounced like in 'sake' (rice wine). XD Just a fun fact LoL
@CharlieRyuu if you would read all my posts you would understand The name Romani is incorect theyr name who was given by our Comunist president was Rromi With 2 R so ppl can make a diference betwin us and them and the name gypsy is thers we r Romani bro from romania they r Gypsys r Rromi so ppls stop confusing us with them that`s my only problem most stupid eu ppl who don`t know shit about us thing gypsys r romani and that`s my only problem thx and have a nice day
I am vegetarian and am super slim :) true! and no TV in my house :) Definitely you've made my mind of not to visit Romania again; on previous occasions I've noticed that a lot of Romanians are quite arrogant and full of hatred to other people like Gypsies, Poles, Russians, Macedonians.. The list is long. Wake up, darling! You're in Europe now! PS. And at least try to spell correctly in English... You've been to schools, no? You're not a Gypsy, eh? PPS. Please don't bother replying. Calm down.
@giraffelf I think both you & mucificatorul should calm down and stop this. You are both right. mucificatorul saw red a bit too quickly, but you jumped the gun yourself. Romanians are arrogant? Were you sober when in Romania? Seriously, they are really humble. However, the elderly sometimes despise Gypsies, Russians, Turks, but did it cross your mind that they may have reasons to feel this way? Gypsies spoil their image, Russia took their gold and never returned it etc. Do some research!
@giraffelf you don`t have a clue about gypsys and my country romania all you know is watch tv 24/7 youtube and eat some cheeseburger soo when you lose some weight tell pm me back and by the way take it slow with the cheesburgers and eat some Knowledge my problem is ppl confuze Romania (Romani) with gypsys and call them romani same way as ass that`s my only problem so rest in peace

Does anyone else think that the best part of this video was the abundance of troll fights in the comment section?

Love this. I like gypsies. Do Gypsies like South Asians? They originally came from there, so I hope so. South Asians love and support you guys.

+chokar123 IS HUNGARIAN GYPSYS

Where can i learn to dance like that?
Mabe you wanna tell me that St Istvan was Romani?
@GrahamAndras
American mountain people dance like the Irish and the Scots.
I had a past life in Hungary as a princess back in the 1700s
ah i wish i could dance like this. I'm gypsy but my family hasn't followed the traditions in a long time so theres no one to learn from TT^TT
