- THIS HOME BURNED DOWN ON DECEMBER 11. 2016
Before you leave me a comment about how I was being a baby or to just go in already, don't worry I DO GO IN!
The reason I was a little nervous was because the house is in really bad shape and I am FAR from home. Didn't want anything bad to happen as you could feel the floors sinking as you walked around! But I did go in and explore all areas!
We took another trip down to the Abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike over the Oct 23-25, 2015 weekend and made a couple new stops along the way. I found this old abandoned stone house on top of Sideling Hill Tunnel and decided to go check it out. The crew this year was myself, Julie Mills and Kelly Mills. Thanks to them for coming along on this adventure!

This house was in our family for many years; we rented it from the state for nearly nothing. There are a lot of family memories here; my father was one of seven sons and each son's family had a room upstairs or shared a room with another brother's family. It the houses' prime there was a player piano in the main room. We used blocks of ice to keep our food cold (later we had a generator). We burned wood in the stove and fireplace to keep warm (or lots of blankets). There was a dip well across the road for fresh water (we used buckets on a chain to pull up the water). The family had many adventures in the area - specifically trips to the fire towers, catching snakes, go-carting, etc. We had an annual pilgrimage for a family reunion their every Labor Day weekend. As many as 200+ people attended the annual Sunday potluck.
thanks for the reply, that is a very cool story and I am glad you could share it. It must have been a beautiful place back in the day. What was the huge stone fireplace outside at the back? was that used for cooking? thanks
This old stone house was built by Jacob Kegarise and completed in 1861. The Sprowl family bought it and over 500 acres of mountain land in 1869. It was the family homestead for many years and also served as a stage coach stop and a hunting lodge during the Sprowl's residence. The Sprowls sold it in 1902. After a series of owners, the PA State Forestry Dept became the current owner. It's very sad that no one had the money or motivation to renovate this historic gem. Instead it was left to deteriorate and be ransacked and vandalized by all manner of squatters and low-lifes.
Valerie Taylor thank you for the history, it's definitely a shame it wasn't purchased and repaired, such a jewel
I agree with you 100%. I guess the money was spent on other things......useless things more than likely...take a guess what I mean.
Thanks Valerie, I really thing all video journalists should do that kind of research you did, looking at this stuff seems moot without it's history. Libraries, City Hall, records of deeds time consuming but easy to do. When a town folds up the COUNTY holds the records. This abandoned highway is a spooky thing, And the real reason it washed up we will never know. But some day an urban explorer will come across some documents and reveal the secrets.
+Kyle Mills Nice Find! I grew up in Pennsylvania; much time in the Blue Mountains. Our family settlement backed up against State Game Lands and good fishing streams - all told about 11 houses, and little family patches like that dotted the mountains. We knew were every abandoned building was, and i remember an abandoned schoolhouse was our 'club'. They built a big Dam down the Mountain, and before flooding the Valley, they had to move everyone off the land, and every weekend we would explore the empty houses- it was a shame so many if the old stone houses were lost. Great tour and content!
It was awesome touring the house! I love going on these adventures!
+Julie Mills Glad you could accompany us!
People should not complain when he is in fact risking his life to do these videos. If someone doesn't feel comfortable enough to do something it shouldn't be an issue. In the end he did go in and explore, but the comments of saying he's a pus and such are not needed. Just because you'd risk your life doesn't mean everyone else has to (also you weren't there so you don't know the full conditions of the house). Think before you make a comment guys.
This house is gorgeous. I love the stones.
I totally get wanting to stay safe! If you had fallen through 3 floors, and broke every bone in your body, or God forbid, got killed, people would be calling you an idiot, and that you should have known better. Don't pay attention to haters. Have fun, and stay safe.
I love how you say I'm not going up there but then you did lol so glad you did great video xx
+monica sheldrake (Monicalovestormsheldrake) I just couldn't resist! My excitement and curiosity got the best of me!
this would be a great buy, solid house. floor, roof, balcony and front may need replacing but this can be a good house.
I love the house and the old furniture!
very cool, thanks for the tour
first off thanks for the video and I understand your hesitation, and thankyou Penney for for the history of this place , what is the approx. age of the house and where abouts is it, which state and when was it last used please and thanks......
in what town is this place? it's awesome! great videos of all the stuff you adventured. thanks
Awesome old house, I wonder if at one time ,if it was a stagecoach stop. good video. thank you for sharing.
you are exactly right, it burned down on Dec 11, 2016
Old stone houses are always a treasure in themselves.
if only these old houses could talk. loved the video.
Julie Julie this one did...... To me there's homeless in the story
One guy needs to drive by and be all like, "I think im gonna buy this house and fix it."
Krásne video 😋 ste úžasný pane
Anna K Ďakujem! 🥂🍻🇨🇦
RT 30? This house is on the way to Gettysburg I think I remember seeing this house at night. It's something to get a chance to see the inside
This was the Horner family camp. My Great Grandfather bought it I believe in 1954. The State took possession of it of it a couple of years ago with the intention of fixing it.
Dave Horner they stolen it with the laws they pass fuck your government justice we have are own justice
The stairs are usually very sturdy because of their manner of construction, and the most likely way to find failure is with a single step's top board or a shifting of the entire stairs as a single structure.
Look at the size of that beam and floor joist @ 9:15 and your thinking that cave in. Built like a old barn made to last forever
how can i find this place?
Nice find....
I'd love to find out more about the house.
big house, love it
nice vid Kyle,, the Mitch Miller album you found on the bed, roughly goes back to about 1962/63 , bet it was a neat place back in it's day
+Jeff Semancik Made famous by the Smothers Brothers', "Sing Along with Bitch!"
My parents had several Mitch albums that we listened to in the 60's!
Wow!!!❤
It's scary it's cool at the same time me and my friend watched
looks like a house that was on a Who Do You Think You Are segment..cannot remember who the actor was though..i could be wrong
The sidling hill house was my grandfather Gracey's homestead.
Why are there so many beds inside?
who owns it now? i need to contact them about something
Neal Gracey
it has burned down unfortunately
Neal Gracey who the fuck gave you the right to invade are land we will bring justice for this
cool place!
I love this house. To bad it’s falling down.
Susan Brown unfortunately it completely burned down Dec 2016
Kyle Mills oh that’s to bad. There are so many beautiful houses that are kicked to the curb, so to speak. Thanks for telling me. Love your channel.
Hi. Enjoyed your video but unfortunately, this place burnt down yesterday. Is totally destroyed and gone. I saw pics of the pile of ash tonight on FB. Glad you got the video of it.
DreamKatcher oh no! that's horrible! was there a news station showing pics or a person? I would really love to see the remnants of this beautiful piece of history...
The fire was this past weekend. So may have been in Saturday. I have pic but don't see where can post to your comment here.
DreamKatcher kylemills200@gmail.com
I sent pic to your Gmail account.
I'm so glad you made this video, especially since the place is gone now. Our family has always lived in the area and we went past this place several times a week. It's so sad that it's gone now. When I was in high school (Forbes Road), we always talked about "The Ghost of Red Eyes" being in that area and how the ghost with glowing red eyes would come out of the woods and jump onto the roof of your car. :-) Also t here were rumors of satanic rituals going on in the yard there at night. I was interested to see if there were satanic marks on the floors and walls as you walked through a year ago and it didn't appear so. It's such a loss that the old house is gone now. It was definitely one of the oldest structures in the area.
raggedysmile there well be hell to pay big
Bill Smith shut your ass.
Mitch Miller was on tv every week. It was a good family show. I think it was in 1960 or something like that.
why is there a vintage girls child sized bunkbed in the living room? I like it...looks to be from the 60s 70s and has a cute design...I like the 1930s style metal bed with the flowers...sad I usually wouldn't like to take things from abandoned houses, but I hate to see such great furniture go to waste along with the house...might have been very gorgeous at one time.
Where is this house located?
you can get that info yourself if they dont tell you, just type it in...
place had no kitchen area? that room behind the bunk beds .. didnt even go in?
I went in all rooms, watch again
It had a kitchen. When you walked in the front door, it was to the left. At one time, it had a huge old cook-stove, but someone broke into the house some years ago and stole it.
what is the purpose of this video? is the property for sale? there are some really nice items that are antique were you able to get a few items and renew them?
honey owen for people to go to prison for brackin and trust passing on my land
@@BillSmith-ku1tp you mean "trespassing" not trust passing, and the state owned the home before it burned down so I was not trespassing on your property
I'm a sensative, and I have dreamed of this property 3 times in 5 years.
Jahna Roth ... You should have warned someone that it was going to burn down.
The Sidelean Hill House is the cat's meow, for sure. You weren't alone by the way. "Have your heart!" at 1:08. Then you say that there's nobody in there. Kind of funny. You'll need headphones and the volume way up high to hear the "Get out!!" at 7:41-7:42. It's very faint. You'll need them for the "They're right there!" at 7:53 also. I won't even mention the "What's going on?!!" at 8:28. There's no way you'll hear it. "Mary Lynn" at 8:42-8:43. Boy, I think that cat just said "Hello!" at 9:11. Doesn't it? Too funny. That was quite the spirited exploration.
+jeff moore why do you have to freak me out!? ;)
+Kyle Mills I'm sorry :)
This is an extra-interesting old house that I'm guessing is from Colonial times. To the best of my knowledge the stone work (quoins) at the corners are unusual for a house of that time and place. The exterior walls are so thick that I suspect the house was built not only for a residence and/or an inn but for defense. If this was built as a private home it must have been built for someone prosperous though the house was probably never luxurious. I like those old-fashioned stairways with doors. I noticed how even though there's a stairway to the second floor there doesn't seem to be any hallway on the first floor; maybe a little at the back. That front room with the fireplace to one side of the projection into the room gives me the impression there's a much larger fireplace there or maybe there were two rooms with two side-by-side fireplaces and that the separating wall has been removed. I noticed that the back outside wall at the upper-left was intact but still wasn't right, there was sagging which explains that off-kilter bedroom. This house has been altered on the inside in some places and not for the better but it's still a special place. I'm glad you documented it so much because I think this structure is worn out and, as you mentioned below, not worth the cost of fixing up. I'm not a professional but what with that outside wall and those sagging floors I can tell that this house is actually dangerous and that parts of it are not far from giving way. I'm glad you made such a thorough exploration of the parts that are accessible.
+Andrew Brendan I am guessing that perhaps some load bearing walls were removed...contributing to the sagging problems...
Kyle Mills. Ignore the ignorant ppl & their comments. Those kind of ppl would do the same thing. Anyone would be nervous in those situations. Rock on Kyle. Love your videos. God bless. ;)
+Wendy Johnston thanks Wendy, hard to ignore but I try my best, it's easy for them to say without actually being there. Glad you enjoy!
I want that house.
I wouldn't went in there, fell through a trailer house complex floor looking for a lost dog, by myself in the woods, never again. Had close run in in a Trap House, wasn't expecting it to be that, looking for a cat that went in a broke down door, nope, no more pet hunts. Damn near got stabbed running back out. I would take a gun or learn to run faster doing this stuff.
I wonder what was that cat doing in they meow meow meow.😺
take a lesson from a fellow Canadian Pam aka Tiki Trex she would'nt be such a wimp , but to your credit you did finally go in wanted to see more of that kitchen though
was nice at one time
I think you are brave
thank you Pat
Cool video it looks like it could be a nice house if someone fixed it up
It is too far gone to spend any $ on it. Basically it'd have to be rebuilt. You'd have to spend twice the amount of $ on it than it'd be worth.
Bullshit... money is nothing... this house was built with sourced stone and logs... I could fix it up with nothing but moarter and hewned logs. Its not a store bought house...
Video👍✌
"Getting a few items" would be stealing, but I know what the person is saying. I hate to see cool antiques and fireplace mantels and other architectural pieces just rot away or be vandalized. It's a conundrum, is stealing or wasting worse? When these pieces of the past are gone they can't be replaced and there are a finite number of them. I guess I would try and find the owner. However, if I couldn't find the owner or the place was due to be demolished "getting a few items" would probably be my answer too, even though my upbringing says it's wrong.
Jan Ramey If you took anything it's stealing. My family lives close to that place.
You obviously didn't read my whole post. Maybe it would have been clearer if I had used AND. If I couldn't find the owner AND it was due to be demolished. I would of course have checked with the demo company and they should have a contact. I would offer to buy the contents and architectural details. However, I stand by my statement that in certain circumstances, items from the past being demolished and lost seems to me to be much worse than saving the past by "getting a few items". And if you really live close by you could help find the owner.
Nothing was taken except good memories, if you really did live close you would know that it burned down
4ever Learning send me your email and I will send a pic
Jan Ramey I said "my family" lives close.
It makes you nervous ?? Really ??? You should be..Your trespassing. How many items did you carry off?
BRENDA TRUAX I take or leave nothing
Brenda, it's ***You're, and quit whining!
the house moves bc its very old houses creek anyway do chill out and go in
Kelsea Phillips ... Do learn how to use punctuation.
And then there's the comment saying WHY in the world did you leave the poor kitty there?????...
Move in ready completely furnished. $450 a month.
...so you don't abide by the Urbex code, you sounded like you would have taken the old album if the record had been there.
Actually I do. I leave nothing and take nothing no matter how it may "sound" to you...
Oops shoulda' read comments first! lmao!
never thought of you being a baby , nope not once , but were you wearing spiked heels ?
lmao! you guys are killing me
someones camp probably and just trying to keep it from falling down on the very cheap
Upstairs answers NO!
Nice video Kyle! I subscribed & liked. I recently got into abandoned places, and am looking for subscribers and join the explorer community. Thank you, and keep up the good work. Mike
Sadly this building has since been demolished. :(
funny it was there may 26 2016
if this had been in UK it would be listed,. I can't believe the US goverment destroy colonial history,. this is your history that's not protected, UK have old buildings, castles, big estate homes, some are part of the "heritage organisation". they are there for properties with such historic importance that may go into decline if owners can't afford to maintain.
it has burned down now as of December 11, 2016
Did that belong to some kind of be salesman lol !!
This was burnt down unfortunately.
Peter Gozinya so that give the right to burn all the house and home are that town
Tom Smith ... What is your problem?
I thought you were a woman all that time till I realized women aren't as afraid.

Kyle Mills

SquillyMon ... Yes it does. All cats are taught this by their mothers at birth.
I actually drove by this recently and they tore the whole building down
More history gone...
