Adding soft lighting under the side rails of the bed also makes for nice anti-toe stubbing lighting in the middle of the night.
Good idea! Might just do that...
@@ZacBuilds A friend of mine put load cells in the bed frame to detect when he got up at night and turn on his night lights towards the bathroom. Home Assistant and the community around it is amazing.
lmfao the inside of the drawer caught me off guard
Can anyone explain to me why it’s not build out of wood and with RGB !? ... this is Zac Builds... massive disappointment xD !
IKR imagine having a Stadia controller in your bedroom in 2024.
@@JonnyJKF lmao
@@JonnyJKF Now that's a good eye!
I spent an unreasonable amount of time working on that. Tracking it in, adding the blur, etc. Glad it got a laugh :)
gotta admit, your post-mortem analysis is one of my favorite parts of the videos, admitting you had flaws and pointing out ways they could be fixed is great, to me.
Your blur was not enough to hide the shame of a Stadia controller. It's okay. There are dozens of us living with that shame.
I got mine in a bundle with a Chromecast 4k for 15 bucks.
That's a good price for the Chromecast alone and you get a free controller. I really like that they enabled you to convert it into a bluetooth controller so it didn't end up as e-waste with the shutdown of Stadia.
@@schwuzi They were practically giving them away at times. I have 3 of them and got them either with a game purchase or for being a UA-cam premium user.
All kidding aside they actually were really comfortable to use. I turned on the Bluetooth and use them with my PC and Steam Deck.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. It is beyond me how Zac doesn't have 5 million subscribers he deserves them.
Haha one day perhaps! I'm happy with how its going so far though!
it's because he doesn't join his walnut together with a biscuit cutter. - at least that's it for me.
Edit: got further into the video... turns out he even owns a biscuit cutter. seriously Zac come on!
Subs no longer matter for most channels. Zac has 1 million views in 5/12 videos in the last year. That is much better than most people could ever dream of. In this day and age when there are 100s of thousands of people with 1 million subs.
Your builds are all so cool! And never stop doing the post mortem analasys, its one of the most informational parts.
Upgrade for a future build: for the wireless charger, build in a round magsafe charger. The magnetic ring will both align the device for charging and keep it from accidentally being knocked off.
While Apple devices have magsafe built-in, there are aftermarket cases for android to make those devices magsafe compatible.
Also instead of using dual sided tape for the power strips and hubs on the back, use Dual Lock, which will let you easily remove and put back those devices when you need to.
Neat idea, I like it!
Wow, the contents of your drawer... I must say I didn't really expect this from your channel, but very good! My compliments for the humor.
It's his wife's toy chill out
Stadia controllers still work great for PC gaming, tbf. Especially with the Bluetooth update and the xinput emulator.
I joked about it on my podcast, and once I said it outloud, I knew I actually had to do it.

It's a hard job, but someone's got to do it :)
Really like Zac's builds, but god I hate his titles and thumbnails. They often come off as so pretentious. I've definitely skipped several of his videos purely because of the awful titles and thumbnails.
@@brycehebert Completely agree lol
Haven't been a subscriber for long, but I appreciate watching your videos! The main thing for me is how relatable you make your projects. You show your mistakes, you share your thought process, you make choices based on gut feelings, just like how anyone would do or feel if they did it themselves at home. Love it brotha and keep it up. Looking forward to the next video.
everyone talkin about the contents of the drawer.... but no one saw third base with the cnc at 1:55

You should buy or build yourself a crosscut sled for your table saw to save yourself the time/trouble of setting up a straightedge for those deep crosstcuts. All you need is a T track rail and a piece of straight material for the fence.
Regarding 90-degree bends of LED strips: they do make "side-emitting" strips, which are pretty much meant to bend around tight corners. Really helpful when you have some weird geometries to deal with in your projects.
Any links to these? I tried to find some and couldn't. Was considering making my own with the 3D printer but never got around to it.
It looks like YT is not letting me put in any real details in the comments -- even a mention of the Bezos Store gets deleted? -- so I'll drop you an email.
Biscuits do not necessarily add strength, they are alignment tools, Dominoes and dowels add strength to areas where there will be added stress like chairs, book cases and tool chests. However the glues used today are excellent binders and the wood will break way before the glue joined seams will.
11:07 okay THIS is how you sell me on a product. Because between my allergies and my fur child’s shedding I have to vacuum almost everyday! Thank you for sharing this product Zac!
Honestly, I've been loving it. It's spring which means my cat is in full on shed mode and the Narwal has done a great job of keeping it all under control. Happy to share my experience!
This whole video was deja vu. I just completed designing (in fusion 360) and building a similar set of smart nightstands with the built in wireless charging, the same power strip, using undermount drawer slides for the first time, etc. Well, done and I like the google tablet idea on a nightstand.
Great minds think alike ;)
Helpful tip for those 90* corners, you should be able to find 90* connectors specifically designed for these cob strips that allow the continuous look of the LEDs. Although to be fair I’ve only dealt with static cobs for commercial purposes so they only have 2 rails, maybe 3 so you may be out of luck for the 5 but have a good hunt around anyway, I’m sure someone’s made them, often the strip manufacturer would make them as an optional accessory.
Awesome! Kinda looks like the bottom drawers could have used a handle though. Looks a little hard to open
Btw, red light doesnt tell your brain its day time and keep you up like you said the window does. So if you can, you could program all of the LEDs to only shine red during whatever hours throuth the night.
Been watching Foureyes Furniture videos for the past few days and when you were already like, done with gluing the boards by 2 minutes in I was whiplashed LOL
I cant compete with those guys when it comes to wood working, so I play to my strengths :)
@@ZacBuilds Oh no lol, I just meant the pace was faster than I was expecting! Didn't take away from the quality of the video at all, the pacing flowed nicely! Regardless, absolutely beautiful pieces! I love the design and the creativity on the drawer faces with the old spare wood. Content like yours has made me crack out the CAD software and 3D printer again, and I wanna thank you for that!
I love how useful it is in terms of cable management! And awesome to see another woodworking video! I love the geometric designs your builds have
BROTHER IM AT WORK Aint no way you gonna jumpscare me like that within the first 10 seconds of the video
You could add a strip of LEDs above the painting for that book reading night light :D. great video!
I'm dying. the reveal when opening your nightstand was so effing hilarious. Thank you.
your method of applying glue would make Adam Savage cry 🤣
Awesome job Zac! Love how much you integrated into these nightstands. 👊
Finally!!! A woodworking project. I find it difficult to follow your “techie” videos but at the same time I am very impressed by your knowledge and creativity.
Cables are the bane of any nightstands existance in terms of clutter. They REALLY need to come up with retractable cables. (think of a measuring tape!) it would deal with clutter completely when stuff isn't plugged in.
I actually looked around for a retractable USB-C Cable, but they all seemed really low quality so I crossed that off the list for this project unfortunately
Tip for biscuits: cut one slot most of the length of the mating part. Then alignment is super easy.
I was expecting the bow ties to become Red Ribbon army logos for some reason since they apparently make everything these days.
IYKYK 😂
This was an awesome build to see! I love how you integrated the Pixel Tablet. I worked on the design and development of both devices (the magnet array / docking experience is what I'm most proud of), so it's really cool to see it come up in the wild!
Oh man that's so cool, you did a great job! I love my Pixel Tablet and get a lot of use out of it.
ha ha. that bedside cabinet drawer... 🤣 quality Zac.
My biggest Question is the integration into the Smart home, tbh.
As a carpenter myself, I love your channel and especially these Nightstands!
with every new video, there is a new thing I would like to do in the future, nice tech furnite
Couple of things I am going to do on my super desk build is charging in the drawers. Places to put phones, watches, headphones, tablets, laptops and every other device that you keep charged. A couple of low profile drawers will sure to add a massive amount of less crap sitting on the desk.
"If you're anything like me, your night stands are probably a complete disaster."
Proceeds to show a night stand a thousand times cleaner than mine.
lol yes. My night stand is nothing but a dust and junk collector! I got so much random junk I don't know where else to stash plus like 6 cables on it. It's such a mess lol. And having pets means it only fills with pet hair even faster lol.
The gap would drive me insane. Even if I had to install, oh idk, like a felt or feathery strip across yhe gap to hide it I'd have to.
I have the same thing in my nightstand, but it's black.
I like the black controllers better, too.
45 seconds in and I'm *psyched*
And I'm psyched to have you here watching :)
The drawer was very surprising, didn't expect that Kind of Humor 😅
I don't know what to say. Still blushing. LoL
i've got the same things in my bedside drawer
Umm... Yeah, Stadia! 😅
Where do you think I got it from?
@@ZacBuilds Nahhh, you really had to do him "dirty," and take it from him? 💀
Just found your channel and your subscriber count deserves to be in the millions. I love your builds!
Absolutely solid video!!!
Gives me idea to get some of that security mirror sheet that are cheap and very thin. Cut them to put behind and even angle up to make the lights reflect up the wall a little brighter. Like a tiny ramp maybe just an inch on a beveled strip. Might work…probably.
For the see-through drawers. Could add a thin panel on back of drawer front. A sort of seal. 1/16 or 1/8 would be good. Easy enough to test too by just sticking a board in there. The bevel drawer pull still functions fine too.
Adult toy in the nightstand....... 🤣🤣🤣. Truly a great touch
I love the look of these, and I really appreciate how much tech you managed to put into it. I would love to have furniture like this in my home, especially my office and living room. However I do want to put a more "lifestyle" issue to you; It's actually really bad to do stuff like gaming, watching TV etc in bed. It messes with your internal clock and can cause some sleep quality (and quantity) issues. Personally I have had much benefit from keeping devices away from my bed, and even keeping my reading outside of bed. The only reason my phone is even in the room is because it's my alarm and I want to be available for my emergency contacts. I also like to keep the inside of my furniture as dust-free as possible so maybe a dust cover on the back panel and more fitted drawers would be my preference. Also... a bottle/cup holder would be nice so you can take a sip of water without spilling or dropping the glass!
For a future project, might I suggest doing home office solutions? In my previous home I had a desk in the living room and it was just ugly and obtrusive to have two monitors and a gaming rig in the room. Given what you've done here and with the coffee table solution I'd like to see some way to have a minimalist desk that accommodates the dual screens and an ATX size PC without being obtrusive when they are not in active use. Maybe like a folding desk (kind of inspired by that tiny ikea table that folds down to the wall) or a dining table that has a big rectangular pillar containing the PC and some sort of folding table top or "pimp my ride" type screens that come up from the table when you need to do PC stuff... of course hiding the whole thing when you sit down to dinner and keeping gravy and wine from entering the electronics. Tall ask, I know :) But seeing you do this stuff makes me confident you can pull it off.
I would add a skinny wood frame around the wireless charger to ensure it goes perfectly in the right spot every time. Just use double sided tape for the wood frame so it can easily be changed in the future with a different phone. It is dangerous to misplace the phone and not have it charge.
I didn't need to know about what goes on in ur bedroom room zac 🤣
love this, i think the gaps around the draws would annoy me personally, but so cool
Nicely done!!
just when I get out of the google hardware game you point something out that just DRAAAAAAGS me back in! lol
If you want to get 'more' light out of the LEDs behind the bed, lay down some strips of very reflective material, surrounding the LED strips. Something like silver coated Mylar tape/sheets -- or even just foil tape, you can play with the crinkly-ness for effect, keep electrical isolation in mind. Along with all that white paint on the wall, you'll easily double the lighting effect. I've used lengths of L-profile Aluminum, polished the inside surfaces of the L-profile & laid my LED strips inside -- beam that at a white wall = massive profit.
Very nice project.
1:26. I know it's not a table top, but no wiping to evenly distribute the glue?
this channel is ArtAttack for adults. i LOVE it!
Hi, to have a bit more brightness, just stick white sheets of paper below your bed and nightstands. That will reduce light absorption from furniture and I garantee you will see the difference ;)
Fellow Canadian here! Can I have your old night stands? xD
Maybe you can create a bunch of drawer inserts for the rubber tools
I prefer blum drawer glides but lots of companies are starting to make better ones now.
For the back lights on the stands, or even the bed, I would have gone with a more powerful, controllable LED light source than strips. Not necessarily a BULB, but, at least something that's quite the bit brighter.
Strips DO have their place, but I've typically found them to not be as bright as I need or want them. I run a strip of LEDs along my bed side, facing the wall, because when they were pointed at the floor, I saw nothing as an improvement compared to just turning on the light. Now, I run dark colors (Blue, or red) on low settings and I see well enough. I have a touchable desk lamp to turn things on and off. But my stand is a 2x3 book shelf with cloth boxes that just hold/hide random junk.
Love the double CPAP user home. I have one for myself and a mobile one myself. As far as the furniture gaps, I always liked various types mesh. Perhaps there's a buffer mesh that would look decent on the tops in the gap...
Cool 😊
You got a build video for that bed frame?
The man just censored the stadia controller
still cant get my head around woodprices in north america.... i just bought oak to build a recreation of foureyes spider leg table. tabletop will be 60x110 cm, 3 cm thick. with all the wood for the legs, cutoffs and some backups a little less than 0.2m³ which ran me like 130€...... mates of mine do the same thing with walnut - 200€......
i would have liked more leds (like the bottom side of the bed, an extra layer for each bedside which is more reading focused, ...) with additional touch capacitive buttons or a mix of sensors and buttons. When i wake up from a productive party the last thing i would want to do is click through a menu to find my light switch
Put underglow on your bed man that would be dope. Like neon lights on a car
I was wondering if you were going to do the drawer blur after talking about it on the podcast😂 also I like that you want to make sure the lights in your bedroom work with a high speed camera… ya know just in case. Maybe these 2 things are connected 😂
nice!
Look into using a glue brush next time :). Just a light coat on both surfaces is all you need, and you'll end up with better coverage/strength with less cleanup.
Another (afterthought) idea would be to automate the internal draw lighting on open/close.
You could have used a MagSafe ring to get the wireless charger to line up easily
Ok that was funny I burst out laughing. Nice! 😂
What about a reflective surface below the LED strips that redirects light upwards?
Man you are me but with more money and the equipment do do all these cool things. In high school I made a beautiful armoire and TV stand. I wish the technology is how it is today so I could’ve put cool things like that in it when I was a kid I got slot cars for Christmas and I took the lights off the tree and put them in the slot car for headlights. Haha
I want this so much
i feel like those drawers are too small for the space. still looks awesome though.
Awesome!!
@zacbuilds i too suffer from sleep apnea. Hang in there.. we'll get through this..
Sweet!
Have you ever used a ceramic top coat? I’m about to build some nightstands and I’m trying that out to solve the coaster problem.
Looks like a great addition! Are there any concerns of heat management or power loss with the wireless charger being directly attached to the wood top?
Your channel is amazing man i loved it, new suscriber!!!, greettings from México.
@2:37 i was convinced there was a hair on my screen lol
Wanna sell me the recently displaced nightstands? They’d match my coffee table. :)
Honesty dude, yes, they're just stacked in the corner of my room. Do you still have my contact info? Hit me up.
love the project let me say that first. Would there be a way to make the inside drawer lights only come on when the drawer is opened? you could also add lights to the bottom edge of the bed for more lighting. just my initial thoughts. not that you asked but ya know. they do look great. I didn't see links for the modeling software

Some brush-strips bristle-strips will hide those gaps. And won't stop your fingers from opening the drawers.
Great video, do you plan to integrate home assistant with your devices? It has infinite automation possibilities
Gotta get some wood grain on that CPAP 😅
I feel like the whole build, which looks very nice, is undercut by enormous drawer gaps & rather harsh-edged backlights. If those were in my room, the gaps would be the only thing I would ever see. Also, nightstands with wireless chargers are not some crazy new thing that nobody thought of
"I found this heavy duty double sided tape" it is fun, that stuff is used in machine companies as low level sealing material and can hold pretty heavy metal plates with not too much material, A+ on 2M tape
At last some wood from Zac 😂
hi, I enjoyed your videos, especially modifying nintendo switch. I am curious if you can modify Nintendo Switch Lite with a big screen. Since the switch lite has a small screen and you cannot connect them to a big monitor or TV, people like me (getting older) have some difficulty enjoying it. I know it would be better to get an ordinary Nintendo Switch or OLED version, and I already have two of those. But would it be interesting to have Nintendo Switch Lite with a 10 inch screen?
