Orbital polisher and proper compound (3M) has done wonders at our dealership. The guy who does it is amazing at it and the guy in this video looks like he is almost pushing his polisher thru the window. I had a problem with one of my 1977 car windows and he made it look like brand new and i have got him so much work now
As soon as you Polish it, the glass diameter will change it's value. It means that you create an astigmatism lent in the middle of your window and instead of fix, you messed it all.
If done incorrectly, you are correct. When done correctly, you can remove scratches from glass. Not something that is a DIY project. We are a glass scratch repair company that specializes in repairing windows mostly on very high end homes. (The most expensive zipcode in the USA) The heat present during the polishing in this video is super concerning to me. That and not grinding completely flat/uniform, will warp or lense the glass. Gotta keep the glass as cool as possible during the process. Reach out to us if you have questions, we don’t mind sharing our knowledge. 😊
@@southbayclearvue that's a good point. When polishing anything you don't want heat. I used a silica compound on my windshield just now with a felt pad rotary polisher. I think the pad was drinking the runny compound but I didn't want to comit to going all in.. Was just a trial. I might try a foam pad for more even polishing force. It's 18 year old glass in pretty bad shape. Lots of tiny scratches which catch the light at night. What do you recommend? Probably best to replace but want to keep the oem glass
I’ve done this before on a Prius windshield using cerium oxide and a dual action orbital polisher. It removed the pitting. But I used great caution to use water and avoid overheating, otherwise you can crack your windshield.
The glass gets distorted by grinding in the same are and not spreading out just focusing on one are not getting the glass hot, and your supposed to let the glass cool down on it own not putting water while it’s hot, if you put water while it’s hot it’s instantly gonna crack
I actually did polish a scratch out of a rear windscreen of a 1980s Toyota about 20 years ago. I used a power drill and a glass polishing kit (white powder and two polishing pads) made by Clarke and sold by Machine Mart in the UK. It took the scratch out but it needed hours of work and (as others have said) it left the view through the glass distorted. I don't recommend trying polishing unless replacement glass is no longer available.
I have known glass polishing for almost 20 years. However, not all areas can be re-polished, e.g. B. Deep scratches. It is also important to pay attention to where the polishing takes place, e.g. B. Windshield viewing area. At one point the polish seems to get too hot and smokes. In this case you should add a drop or two of water as the heat is not good for polishing. For beginners, we recommend using a ready-made glass polish. Advanced users can use the powder and make the polish themselves using water. If the polish is too liquid, everything will splash around. If the polish is too dry, it quickly becomes hot and can have the effect of sandpaper. If you need to polish your windows, it is best to have it done by a professional. Many greetings says the panoramic roof specialist 😉
@@harryhartawan6477 Hello, there are no water stains... they are probably dirt or lime stains. Have you ever tried a vinegar or citric acid cleaner? I dare to polish away “water stains”. Polishing glass takes practice and it is completely different than, for example, B. to polish car paint. If you haven't polished the glass yet, it's better to stay away from it... especially the front and rear windows.
