  • HUGE LAUNCH OF 2022 SPACEX’S MONSTER FALCON HEAVY AWAKEN
SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy made its spectacular debut in 2018 and a few successful flights were carried out in 2019. Now after 3 years of absence, the monster has awakened once again and is ready to take the world by storm. But what is the hype all about and is it really worth it? Let’s find out!
First things first, let's talk about what exactly is Falcon Heavy? It is basically a partially reusable heavy-lift launch space vehicle that has been designed and manufactured by SpaceX, the leading aerospace manufacturer in the world. Initially launched in 2018, Falcon Heavy mesmerized the world as it became the world's most powerful operational rocket. It is also the third-highest capacity launch vehicle ever to make it into orbit.
Falcon Heavy has the ability to lift nearly 64 metric tons into Earth's low orbit and that is almost twice the payload that its largest competitor, the Boeing Company's Delta IV Heavy is capable of and that too, for one-third the cost. Made up of 3 Falcon 9 engine cores, Falcon Heavy can generate more than 5 million pounds of thrust at lift-off. This is the same force as about 18 747 aircrafts at full power. It can rightly be called 'the king of rockets' if that's a thing. The Falcon Heavy has 2 stages with boosters that separate after lift-off, landing back upright on Earth, only to be used again.
Elon Musk is well known for his many phenomenal inventions and technological advancements be it Tesla's leading electric vehicles or PayPal. But Falcon Heavy is one thing that the South African-born American entrepreneur is most proud of. It made his company, SpaceX the pride of the United States. Musk proudly revealed in an interview that Falcon Heavy can launch things directly to Pluto and maybe beyond.
Falcon Heavy's story started a long time ago. Musk first announced the Falcon Heavy in 2011 and predicted that its first flight would come in 2013. But the spacecraft faced many difficulties during its development phase and the launch date was pushed back several years. The two catastrophic Falcon 9 failures in 2015 and 2016 became the cause of further delay in the launch of Falcon Heavy. The static fire testing of the Falcon Heavy center core and its three boosters was successfully carried out in 2017. The day of the launch finally came and Falcon Heavy lifted off for the first time on February 6th, 2018. The rocket was launched from the Kennedy space center in Florida where hundreds and thousands of spectators gathered on the roads and beaches to witness the historic launch of Falcon Heavy. The launch was also live-streamed for millions of people around the world.
