  • After more than 80,000 miles sailed, 56 countries visited, an entire circumnavigation of planet earth, and dropping our anchor at countless islands, atolls, and indescribable paradises…this insane island beats them all. We’re here in the Tuamotu Islands of French Polynesia, and we are really and truly in the middle of nowhere out here. About 3,000 miles of open ocean lies between us and Mexico to the north east, and another 3,000 or so in the other direction to New Zealand. We felt like the luckiest family in the world to be able to call this place home for a while, but unbelievably, on this morning, these islands revealed another side of themselves that we can’t even put into words…

The shots of the anchor going down were very cool! ⚓️ You could get some kind of pole or pipe that clamps onto the boat railing so the birds can sit on it over the water & not poo on your boat! 🤪🦜🕊🦤❤

Every time one of your videos gets suggested to me, I end up binging 5 or 6 of them. Then I find myself, with no boating experience, little mechanical know-how, and only about $2000 of expendable income, wanting to just set sail tomorrow and leave it all behind. Thanks for letting me live vicariously for a few hours now and then.

Gosh, brings back so many memories of my own cruise through the Tuamotus back in 1978. I feel your discomfort from the heat! I recall that the water inside the lagoon was HOT and there was no relief from the heat by swimming - one had to dive down twenty or thirty feet to find some cooler water. Back in those days, before GPS and radar, boats were frequently wrecked on the low-lying reefs; it was common to see abandoned hulls lying ashore - people's dreams shattered. Most boats sailed around the Tuamotus to avoid the danger.

@@jillynyx3807 Well, it was pretty darn nice, if one could exclude the heat. The diving and shell collecting was phenomenal. Nowadays, modern navigation and yacht air conditioning seems to make everything safer and more comfortable hence many more boats explore the atolls.

I've been in the US Navy for 18 years. On a couple of occasions I've seen the water look like glass, something comes over you and you have to stop. You know its special when it happens, you feel it. It just pulls the stress out of you, and suddenly your mind becomes as still as the water. Wish everyone could experience it.

While it wasn't on a sailboat in glassy-calm waters, like this, I had many such moments along the beaches and pristine turquoise waters of the island of Aruba, where I grew up -- this was between 1945 (when I was 4-mos. old) and 1963 (when I graduated from high school). From "Baby Beach" to "Palm Beach" on the leeward side of the island, the beaches were magnificent and often deserted -- except for hermit crabs, birds, and the occasional iguana. As the island was "discovered" by tourists in the 60s, however (and ever since then), you can no longer get this kind of beautiful isolation that you all have experienced here. You are right, however: these memories will stick with you for a lifetime. They have for me. 💞

Regarding Aluminum Dinghy - That's definitely Electrolysis. Most likely from anchor & anchor chain. Temporary repair - Ruff it up with wire wheel , Clean & dry area with acetone , Fill all the holes with JB WELD.
Long term Repair - Bend up a Scrap piece of 16 Guage Aluminum to fit across the " V " in the hull ( inside the dinghy ) in the Affected area. Clean area , Apply 5200 to Entire area. Smush Aluminum patch plate into area. Let 5200 smush out.

Brian is narrating the natural beauty of this anchorage, with the calm water's mirror-like reflection, the early morning sun lighting the world as only it can, and the camera pans to the bow where Lady Kaz stands , eyes to sea taking in the amazing vista, all while Brian films and describes the beautiful scene. The sight of Kaz standing there, with the outline of her flawless figure standing at the bow as Brian's voice compliments the natural beauty being captured by the camera's eye, made me think how important it is to appreciate the good and wonderful things in our lives! Great video, Brian!

An anchoring idea: Anchors, windlasses, rode lockers in each bow of the cat. Nylon snubbers with chain hooks on each bow that can reach the other bow. When rode is out, fasten both chain hooks, ease out chain and you have your bridle. Redundant and much easier to use.

    Hey Brian,
You might consider adding West Systems G Flex 655 and Alumbond H-450 to your fabrication arsenal, particularly since your new home will be aluminum. Either of them would do a great job to repair the pitting you're seeing on Maggie provided proper prep before application. G Flex also works well on fiberglass and even roto molded plastic since it remains flexible, and the 655 variant is the consistency of gel toothpaste so it doesn't slump. Alumbond is a fortified epoxy like JB Weld, but it's fortified with aluminum so it doesn't cause galvanic corrosion in aluminum applications.
