Original Oregonian here! Lived in Grants pass most of my life moved out here to Tennessee for the land. Love McMenamins their tater tots are my favorite & their Ruby beer🥰 I adore your channel & you. Been watching you for 6 months now. We're in the process of buying 50 acres and creating a homestead in west middle Tennessee. I hope to follow your footsteps & document my adventure like you so beautifully did. Thank you for sharing your life & lesson's with us all. 🥰

This video made me homesick for Oregon! We lived in NE Portland from 1979-1987. Our children were born there and we still have many friends there. The last time we were there was 2 years ago- we met friends for lunch at Mcmenamins in Troutdale!

Hi Becky, my daughter and I met you and your mom at HOA Convention in VA a couple months ago! That was pretty neat! By the way, my husband and I bought some acreage right close to my daughter's farm since we returned from the conference! I am very excited! When I saw you I told you that you inspire me but what I didn't tell you is that you remind me of me when I was younger LOL. You have so much energy! Plus you're always so bright and cheerful and I enjoy watching you. I love to thrift and I just went thrifting today. I was specifically looking for mason jars. That's one thing I never looked for on purpose at the Goodwill because I never tried to can anything until I watched your videos LOL. I am making jelly but it's my first time and I'm 56 so you taught me something new. You and some of the other homesteaders also inspired me to do the things I always wanted to do when I was younger. Back then I was busy raising our three children and their schedules were so very busy, I really didn't take the time to do a few of the things I wanted like foraging and food preservation. So now I'm at the time of my life where I can. I've been going to thrift stores since I was a child in West Virginia with my grandparents. Back then some of them would be called junk stores even. My mom even worked in a Heart and Hand Methodist Thrift Store as I was growing up. So it's kind of in my blood I guess you'd say LOL. All three of my girls, including the one who introduced me to you, thrift and all three of them love it! I have been in the bin stores and they are the funnest and wildest! Thank you for all you do and all that you teach and how you inspire all of us!

I was already giggling at your mother in law jokingky spraying hand sanitizer in her mouth after goodwill, but what really made me laugh was when she quietly clarifies "I didnt actually spray it in my mouth, that was a joke." 😂 shes so wholesome and fun! ❤ I'm glad the three of you had such a good day together and that you all found a couple things you were looking for. :) As always, thank you for the video. :)

We grew up pretty poor (in North Carolina), so thrifting (Goodwill, thrift shops, yard sales, garage sales, church sales) were a regular occurrence for our family. Every Saturday morning from 5am -NOON in the spring, every other Saturday in the summer. Afterwards we'd head home, have lunch, and work in the garden til nighfall (spring) or do housework till the heat of the day was gone then the garden (summer). My mom did lots of gardening, canning, freezing, and we raised a hog every year for slaughter. They were ALWAYS named "Supper."

    • @christawright2685
      @christawright2685 3 роки тому +3

how funny "supper". My mom always had a yorkie dogs, through the years and they were always Tinker, when talking about them past tense we would differentiate by calling them Tinker one or Tinker two and so on. Barn cats were always called Menew

It even though ya'll didn't have much money. It sounds like ya'll had a strong sense of family ,hard working and knowing the value of money and were to spend it to make it work. It's strange that some people understand and appreciate everything they have and work for from childhood to adulthood some don't learn that lesson until their adults. Others they never learned or appreciate what they have. May God bless you and your family

I have wonderful memories of thrifting with my precious daddy during the last part of his life! He loved to go, then we would have a lunch at a fast food place and soft serve Ice cream! I can still hear him say,” We’ve had another wonderful day!” All too soon those fun times came to an end! But I count myself blessed!

We have a local thrift store here that all proceeds go to a local pregnancy center to help families with their needs. Medical care, child items as well, and baby and parenting classes. When I moved I got 90% of my stuff there for my house. I get the majority of my daughters clothes there and then donate them back. Books are 2 for 25 cents, including cook books.

When I was young, my mum would take me thrift shopping and we loved it. When I got older I took my daughter thrift shopping and she also loves it. She is now in her twenties and buys stylish vintage outfits. She says she hopes one day to have a daughter to take thrift shopping, so the tradition will live on.

My family grew up thrifting, but my mother in law cringes 😖 at the thought. Too bad for her 😏. I buy stuffed animals for my dogs to destroy without guilt. I always put them straight into a Sanitizing wash cycle and then through the hot dryer. I hv a sanitized batch waiting for Christmas morning. You can buy a bag of squeakers, on Amazon and insert them yourself. One of my 5 dogs is a “Squeaker Killer”, so this is a great way to save money, on dog toys. Tip,,,don’t buy the stuffed animals that use beanies, in them. You will be cleaning them up forever. Also, Baby toys are the safest, because they are made without glass and plastic parts.
I also buy some of my linens at the thrift stores. That way you can find the softest pillow cases, because they hv been well used, already. I use fitted sheets to protect my upholstered chairs from pets and king flat sheets on larger furniture. We hv a whole dog linen closet (full of Thrift Store linens) just for bathing, car trips and pet friendly stays/B&B’s & Cabins.

Beautiful Carrie. Becky is showing she loves and respect her. What I see here its a young lady getting what she is given... They can feel your energy. The only person we can change is ourselves. My mother in law used to love me and still look for me after I divorce her son . Her daughters used to say. She care more about you than us. Haha A lots of girls go in to NEW family think ALL mother in laws are bad. Before they give them a chance. My mother teach me. You do not need to love her. But you must respect her us the mother of your husband..

I really appreciated seeing this video today with all the green, especially the path to lunch, it's grey and snowing here in Northeast Minnesota for the second day. Thank you for taking me along on your thrifting journey, it's always fun to see what's out there and what people buy. I saw a few things that I might have picked up. I follow a reseller on IG and she takes us along. Much of the items that are decorating my home came from garage sales and I've had a few to get rid of things that no longer work for me. At times, GW had skirts and things that had lots of fabric and could be taken apart and made into something else. I once made my Mom a beautiful tunic type top out of a pair of floral palazzo pants. Turned out so well that she wore it as Mother of the Groom and many more times.
When the glass hens on nests were mentioned, I had to go look and see if I had any. Nope, mine is ceramic. When I married into this flock, we got chicken decorations for some wedding presents, and I opted in, so have a large collection made of all kinds of different materials, many came second hand, and lots were very special gifts. It's been fun collecting them and letting go of ones that I'm not fond of. Mine range in size from 1 inch to 3 feet. A lot are kitchen towels.

So much fun! We love thrifting as well! I grew up in Sequim, Washington and all my relatives lived in Seattle! My great grandma, my grandmother and my mom and I would all go thrift shopping together! It was so fun! We would often go to the South Seattle Goodwill and they were a lot cheaper back then! I was always scared as a little kid when we went there though as there were a lot of little people working there and they liked to be funny! They would play hide and seek and when I’d pull a book off the shelf, they’d be peering at me from the other side! I didn’t understand why there were so many little people my size! I was so silly back then! Now my mom and daughters and I all go thrifting! I love to find cute decor, my favorite chef’s cookbooks, candlesticks, cute Christmas decor, canning jars, records to add to my collection, etc… My greatest find was a Waterford Crystal bowl, that I got for $1.50! I also found a Betsy Johnson purse for $3.00!

Omgosh! This really brought back memories. Growing up all of my sister's and mines clothes came from this place called the dump. It was a Goodwill sort of but it was just a giant mountain if clothing like 15-20 ft high and filled an entire building. You would just buy a paper sack and fill it with as much as you could. My favorite find was a pair of lame MC Hammer pants! Truly a find for my 13 yr old self!

Story time! My local goodwill is not that great. I live in an extremely small town (population 3300). I never have luck finding stuff. Today I am meeting a friend for lunch located next door to goodwill. I arrived 15 minutes early and figured I'd walk through the store to kill time and get some steps in. I hit the jackpot! I found 2 pie dishes, 2 round casserole dishes and a 9x13 dish. All glass! We are getting an upright freezer in the next few weeks and I can't wait to do some freezer meals with my new treasures! Thank you for being you, and inspiring me to try new things. You are an amazing person!

Oh my gosh The Bins are my favorite! This is literally where 90% of my clothes are from at this point (you should certainly look through clothes next time). Thrifting is in my veins. My Mom took my sister and I as kids to every garage sale and we use to drive quite a ways to get to a store called Savers. I can barely get myself to go in a regular Goodwill now because they seem so overpriced compared to the Bins. If you ever luck out and are next in line for a bin be sure to look. Our local bins still has a rule of 1 person or 1 group per bin so you can pull out whole bags of things donated directly there. I have ended up with an entire bag of things my size. The hard goods are so fun though! Thrifting reminds me of how much we waste as a society so sometimes it can get emotional. I believe most everything is trashed after the bins with the exception of fabrics. I believe they are sold at bulk for furniture filler and such. Have a great day Becky! Always a joy! -Sara

Ahh Portland. I’m in Oregon City, so it’s fun to see you driving on all the local bridges and hangout spots. That was an awesome jar haul btw!

We live in Vancouver, too, and enjoy the bin diving at Goodwill on 117th once in a while. I've found some bargains there, especially clothes for my granddaughters.. Enjoy your canning, etc. You have incredible energy.

So fun!! I love thrifting pretty much anything. I am big on vintage linens, mid-century style things, and craft supplies. Clothing, house stuff, etc. are always fun to hunt thru. more thrift videos!

Aw, this makes me so nostalgic for Portland. I grew up in Salem and trips to Portland were always a thrill. And I miss McMinnemen's! Thanks for taking us along. :)

I haven’t been thrifting much lately-got a lot of decluttering to do. But I sure want to now. My daughter and I would sometimes go to goodwills, from Salmon Creek to Scappoose to Tigard. Love it! 🧡

Ahh I lovèdd this one! As being a dutch native made it even more feeling “close to home” when I watched this video (really fun finding our your husbands’ family is dutch :D ) thank you so much Becky for doing what you loved doing most and sharing it with us!! 💛🙏🏻✨

Hi Becky! I’m glad you enjoy going thrifting. My granddaughter and I, love to do it also. I found so many casserole dishes and pie plates the last time we went. It is so exciting when you find an expensive name brand item for cheap. She finds a lot of Nike, Champion, The North face items. We both have fun, and we enjoy spending time together (as she is 18 and I am 68).😊

Thrifting is the best! I love all things second hand store or garage sale! But my favorite is finding a gem in the side of the road during bulk pick-up! Lol. Like Christmas!
