The Pilot in Command ALWAYS has the last on fuel. If he's not happy with what the dispatcher give him, he can upload extra.

He can call mayday and it will get investigated? And can land asap right? But you are correct. I have been asked to do illegal things in my life but I have never complied. Sounds like that captain is blackmailing .

The issue is he WAS given the legal minimum fuel. If you are the Captain that always asks for more fuel, you won’t work there long.

@@StacyMelliott first, you check the weather. If you need the fuel, take it. You don't have to ALWAYS take extra. In the US they have unions that will protect you in cases like this. I'd rather fly with a Captain that takes the extra fuel for safety instead of one that just toes the company line.

@@StacyMelliottthat’s a load of crap. If I want more fuel and I can legally carry it, I’m carrying it.

Those days are gone. Tanking extra fuel cost money. Airlines have strict fuel requirements these days.

That is actually quite a safe call although it hints a relatively bad preparation.

You are the pilot in command and as such, you should be the one who determines how much fuel you need. What you have done is to put your company/dispatcher in command of your airplane which put you in a low fuel situation. I was an airline pilot for 29 years and routinely called my dispatcher to ask for more fuel and always got what I wanted because my airline, unlike yours, honored their captain's judgement. Dispatchers are not pilots and do not see things as a pilot does. For example, they never consider runway configuration at the destination airport or flying into a one runway airport such as San Diego. For example, on a flight from La Guardia to O'Hare where they are landing to the east. In this case, you must fly as much as a 20 mile downwind leg past the airport, then turn around and fly a 10 mile base leg then another 20 miles to a landing. That's an extra 50 miles of flying which takes more fuel. There are 2 kinds of captains, ones who play a game called "What if?" and plan for continencies and those, like you, who play "I hope not" and pray that the flight goes exactly as plannned, or else! Or Else happened to you.

Well, you are the PIC next time don’t agree with the fuel and take more…..
Did he really say “give us heading this missed approach is complicated”? Dude you need to brief and prepare for this beforehand. Jesus.

People complain about regulation but this is what happens with regulation. Companies only give you the bare federal minimums. They don't care about life. They don't care if you make a living wage. They only care about profit margin.
