Good thing that flyback is still ok, that style k7000 one has been NLA for years.

I noticed there are two HV lines running from the CRT. Where is the other wire running?
I am now restoring a 1986 IGT video poker with a very tired CRT. Considering adapting to LCD?
    Great channel by the way.

External winding, you can see it mounted on-top of the heatsink to the left of the flyback, greyish box.
It's to prevent the flyback's core from draining while using light gun games. The quick flash of white on the entire screen is maximum draw, so there's risk of draining the core and starving other parts of the circuit. All you'd notice is the screen jump (usually vertical sync is lost for a split second) if there wasn't the external winding.
I don't know the entire science behind it, but that's the reason and cause/outcome. I assume draining the core also slightly stresses other parts of the chassis circuit (powered by the flyback) because it's technically resetting every trigger pull.

Artifact, What is the point of using an isolation transformer if the repair technician can still get shocked by high voltage Kilovolts when the repair technicians hand is holding onto the chassis frame and + high side voltage? the isolation transformer is protecting and preventing what in this scenario?
