Great job! I found one Athol vise very similar to this one last week. That’s why I found the info you gave on Athol vises at the beginning particularly useful. I licked it, though, as u recommend. I am writing u from the hospital :p kind regards and keep it on!
Vise licking is a specialized testing method and should not be performed by untrained individuals or small children....or space aliens.... the more important question is, did the vise speak to you? :P
I grabbed one of these at a NJ flea market roughly 3 years ago for $40.00. what a find. I'd Love to know what this tool looked like new so I could restore it as close to it's original color as possible.
Hi there my ig friend, well i followed your order and watched your video😉 great work and i somehow like your humor👍 the moment when you took off the tape, perfect cutting editing and audio!! Keep up the great work, best regards from switzerland
Just acquired one of these vises myself. Been in my wife’s family at their multi generational shop since this vise was new. Kind of liked your video style. Especially when at the sawhorse scene where I thought I was watching a tool restoration version of “Pimp My Ride”… 🤣😂🤣
Great video, entertaining and a fantastic restoration. Was the vice cast iron or cast steel? A stall holder at a car boot sale (flea market) once told me they never used to put removable jaws on cast steel vices, which I took with the prescribed pinch of salt and moved on to the next stall. Please note: I’m still very much at the gullible stage of tool restoration, I’m still trying to work out the best way of welding a wooden plane. You do realise your 'shop looks far too tidy for a true follower of Hand Tools Rescue don’t you? For the amount of videos you’ve made you are ridiculously undersubscribed, but I’ve just added one more.
Thanks Mark! I assume the vise is cast iron (as most are) but I don't know for sure. Yes, I am a proponent of keeping things "more tidy" than Eric does, but we are related. As for being undersubscribed....I think I lost I bet with someone lol.
P. J. Galati I think it’s cool you’re both related, I can imagine a lot of jesting around at family gatherings. We all have different ways of working, it’s the finished product that counts and you’re both to notch there.
@@markharrisllb lol Yes, the Junk Tool reunions are full of grime and rust :P Although I don't know if what Eric and I do is actually considered work hahahhaha
This should be on youtubes trending page!
hhmmm...do I need to fill out any forms in triplicate? :P LETS DO IT!!!!
I've just witnessed glory.
Hand Tool Rescue I’d like to say it’s your fault, but I’ve been like this for decades 🤪
Best restoration videos on YT, period.
Mulligan Farms Well shucks....(cough) I mean, OBVIOUSLY! 😅
Great restoration! You have a good collection of vices
The collection is growing! Glad you enjoyed the process.

I just bought the same one and I'm going to restore it based on this video. There is for sale on FB in Berlin CT. It is that "minty green" color
Minty green tastes good, but not to the eyeballs :P
Beautiful job bro second time watching this video 👍🤛
Yeah, I've watched it more than once too :P
Good looking vise restoration there. Them there might be pretty close to the colors of our once beloved St Louis Rams!
Thanks! I'm not a sports guy, but I'm glad it looks like the Rams should be throwing it back and forth. lol
Great video, lucky Memphis stepped in to save you on that one part....yeah, you know the one ;o)
What you mean is, MEMPHIS is lucky I left that in the edit.... ;)
@@PJGalati 🤔 I suppose you could look at it that way, yes 😉🙂😁
Interestingly I am currently working on restoring my third Athol. A 614. And all of the athol s I have done I’m doing Navy and gold lettering

That's what we all would like to know! But I'm a "better than new" kinda guy :P
When you re assembled it did you have a hard time holding the spring down to get the cotter pin back in?
Hey vise licker! What attachment is that on your impact that was used to remove the swivel base bolt?

SwissDadMakes Thank you my Swiss friend, I lucked out finding just the right music! My humor is a an acquired taste. 🤪
i have a 624 athol vise i am missing the the locking mechanism for the vise swivel, any help in me finding one
Hello, what was that tool you used with the drill to remove the bolt?

That's a great vise rescue so good job! I also think you are drinking too much coffee when you are filming 👍 😊
Sparky 415 Everythings Adjustable hhhmmmm I didn’t drink ANY coffee 😬 I may need to see a doctor 😅
@@PJGalati too much gator fumes from Mephis' pies
edit: wait... that sounds SOOO wrong on so many levels
Mulligan Farms you’re not wrong...on both 🤪
I'm new here .... what's in the Minwax can? thx!
just some furniture paste wax....and magical vise dust.... :P
You don't show how to replace the cotter pin. I'm finding it to be no easy task!
Non removable jaws? That's odd for what I would assume to be a higher end vise. Also.......you said Athol.
Indeed.... It is the weirdness..... (whispers) Athol. :P
Might have weighed 60 before all the rust and crud got taken off. 😂
ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY SHE WAS FAT???? :P
