Alec Steele Blacksmith 2019 - Розваги
Here's an idea: Alec and Will make a knife blade each, without the other seeing it. Then they'll have to make the handle, pommel and guard to each other's blade, knowing only the measures necessary to do the fitting.
I think for the sake of the challenge both knives should be a hidden tang style, with a simple ricasso that doesn't give away if the blade is a hunting knife, a bowie, a dagger or whatever.
That would be awesome lol
Ooh nice one 👍🏼
Bump
@@gavinmanteuffel6134 But probably hard to pull of, a knife handle is a pretty complex form with all its curves. So If you just draw the shape onto a piece of paper you have already given away half of the knife´s look
perhaps they could encase the blade section in thick cardboard, and tape it up, leaving only the tang visible for handle fitting.
Will did an entire episode! He even announced the sponsor himself.
That’s for sure awesome!
Yea.. Alec better run a fat check his way
*sniff* My boys growin' up so fast.
He's getting smooth!
the shop looked busy at times though, more videos coming!
The face of Alec in the background as Will lit the torch "Is he now going completely insane?" 🤣🤣
I saw that....total concern and puzzlement.
crab-people...crab-people...
yes, he had a look of "why is there fire"
Cant be stuck if it's liquid.
11:52 It was _my turn_ to start a fire!
You know when Alec first introduced Will I was skeptical about this young man but every video has been gold with this young man. I love and respect him as much as Alec and this is probably my favorite UA-cam channel for the great craftsmanship these fellas have produced. I salute you gents.
Hell yea , he's got his own vibe. Great video.
Hello bill. How is hilary
You do realize will is only one year younger than Alec right?
My heart goes out to Will for lifting those pieces up to the grinder the whole time
Now I’m 100% certain he’s at least twice as strong as Alec
@@kirkendauhl6990 Still waiting for an arm wrestling contest
11:53 Alec's face is like "what the hell is he doing over there"
came looking for this comment
It sorta looks like more of a "I wanna make fire too" kind if face
I never knew how much I wanted a MyMechanics/Alec Steele crossover episode until now!
After the plague settles down, this would be awesome.
I wanted that crossover so bad when they got the big power hammer. That thing would be gorgeous with a perfect restoration.
MyMechanics has ruined any other channel's restoration videos for me. His channel is amazing.
I was waiting for an "I make a new one" reference.
After the MM videos, I’m cringing at half of what Will is doing.
Next episode, make a homemade hand portable belt grinder so you dont have to handle the heavy stuff while grinding (:
your comment got hearted, you might get your wish XD
Or just buy one?
I remember those from Man at Arms Reforged. Super narrow contact wheel and belt. They were neumatic if I remember correctly, but I’m sure someone’s made a ac powered version at some point, or even 20v cordless...
It's called a finger sander! They are amazing.
Alec mentioned once that all grinding was to be done in the grind room. Makes sense cause unlike most shops, theirs is also a video studio with expensive cameras and lights that would need to be constantly cleaned if they operated like a normal shop. Have you ever noticed how clean the shop is?
Good job Will. The gold lettering is a nice touch!
It is so great that you and Alex love restoring time-tested shop tools!
Also: The look that Alex gives you at 11:53, too funny!
Yeah, I notice from watching the video that will has some dangerous habits, alec probably sees this and is concerned...
Hammering a bulky screwdriver/chisel into a seized screw over his knee that's right in the slip path, using hand tools like that on the lathe, the handle-less file and that's just this vid off the top of my head, Oh yeah, nearly setting his own head on fire xD.
I've noticed it before as well, he's young so thinks he's invincible, but he should be careful, one slip and he'll be that old man with missing fingers or worce!
[edit]...and being his employer technically, alec will probably get the blame for it legally speaking. not that he's not concerned for wills wellbeing, he just has more than one reason to be concerned for his safety at work.
He's gonna be a great dad!
DaftFader using a file on the lathe isn’t a bad thing he might not be as experienced with metal lathes so he’s more comfortable by using the file and I’ve always used files with no handles and it’s kind of better without them, but you have a point with the knee thing imagine if that went into a main artery 😖
@@sammillward3743 I've seen people use hand tools on a lathe before, and I can tell will prefers hand tools as he uses them a lot, just to me at least, the way he handles them around it is what's dangerous. Like he isn't paying attention at times (when he's moving position etc) and the tools get needlessly close to the spinning chuck. The handleless file i didn't see myself, i just noticed someone comment that it was dangerous in the comments and added that in my edit. I mean when has anyone ever said something incorrect in youtubes comments? it just dont happen bro! xD
100 years old and now restored as good as new, ready to last another 100 years! What a great way to honour those great American craftsmen who made such a fantastic piece of engineering equipment way back in the 1920's and a great American craftsman (Will), who restored it so expertly, for future craftsmen to use for many years to come!
I was half expecting half way through for bold italic impact font 'i make new one' to appear on the screen
Jack Gladstone Holroyde I love that channel!
Oh yes, my mechanics is one of the best!
Yeeeeeees. Came to the comments to look. 🤓
11:52 that is the look of concern on Alec's face.
Was just about to comment this. XD
@@goggles412 Me too lol
This may be the best produced video ever run on this channel. The editing is sublime and Will's presentation is rock solid. It was a pleasure to watch - thanks!👍
Starting to find it quite funny how somebody leaves a "This is the best-edited video on the channel yet" comment on every video 😂But Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it Dan!
Will has improved a lot. I remember how awkward he seemed when he first started to be in the videos.
@@JamiePopple The Vise looks kind of small compared to the marvelous editing of the video. Just kidding, both are epic! Congratulations to Will and Jamie!
I love alec's expression at 11:53, he really wants to play with the torch too
Honestly almost like the restoration videos more than the forging ones. I love watching you bring old machines and tools back to life that were built to stand the test of time!
Recommendation if you didn't know the channel "mymechanics" yet
I love restoration videos. It might be partially due to things I watched and read as a kid that just makes me think of how happy these tools are to be restored to their prime and made functional and beautiful again.
Agreed
Thank you for doing the lettering on this!!!! Please convince Alec to do it on the power hammer!!!
I think a sandblasting cabinet would be very helpful
I agree, but i don't know if they do enough restorations to make it worth it. Would have been nice when they first started in this shop though.
very helpful but i dont see them using it very often would just take up room in the shop its not like theyre restoring stuff all the time
Really only useful for restorations, though, right? Definitely would help the occasional project like this, but not for weapons or toold they make.
It might help get scale and other loose forge debris off of peices
Apart from the cost of unloved tools, I find it inspirational that you both enjoy bring these old workhorses back from the dead! True craftsmen!! 👍🏻👍🏻
True craftsmen take care of their tools. Regardless of their ages, Alec and Will are true craftsmen. I love these restoration videos.
11:53- Alec looking at him like he was jealous and he wanted to use the 🔥! Lol
Holy Time Lapse, Batman! And slo-mo, all blended seamlessly and with the music. Great editing, everyone! 😘👊🤙
Absolutely love seeing Will tackle these solo videos. Once again, I have been here since the dirt floors and I knew y’all would be great during that first project together. A cutlas, if I remember correctly.
It's amazing to see how much love and care you put into these old tools to get them looking gorgeous again. Fantastic job.
Not sure why I chuckle every time will says “Meatball”
This is such a satisfying video to watch!
I'm an absolute sucker for the restoration of old tools. This thing is beautiful and will continue to live on, living out its purpose in life.
I love seeing how far Will has come as a vlogger and presenter. So much more confidence and finesse in his delivery
"Whack on it till its free" Yeah that's one way to put it Will. LoL
"Whack on the jaw until it cums free" is what he said, don't water it down.
I kept waiting for the pop up text saying "I make a new one" like on mymechanics channel :D
That coat of paint and gold lettering is absolutely GORGEOUS. Excellent work!
I really love how the music and the video editing line up so nicely, now Wills hair matches the cleaning and the restoration of the vice.
I love how the social distancing over there is making you both indulge in your hobbies a bit more.
Alec - "I'm gonna make myself my own bike! And swords! Two of them!"
Will - "i GoT aNoThEr ViSe!"
lmao
That picture of Will in the thumbnail is very much in the UNCANNY VALLEY.
Alec propably forced him to do some plastic surgery, to look more like a girl when wearing a wig and pretending to be Mrs. Steele. It must be hard working for Alec...
I no why does he look twelve
I love seeing Will's giddiness at being able to play with vices, you can tell that he is absolutely loving every minute he gets to spend with that vice.
And in 18 minutes you restored my faith in America. Young man restores old steel. Nothing better. Thanks Wil.
I was just like "Hmmm, have I missed a bit of Alec and Alex?"
"Hand sanding isn't enough of a challenge, I need to physically lift 20+lbs of metal and belt grind them"
I love watching Will with his enthusiasm! I also enjoy the restoration video, and hope there is more of them in the future!
Such a beautiful looking vice. I love it when you guys restore old tools.
12:46: never, ever, wrap something around a lathe! That's asking for troubles
You're obviously someone who knows nothing about machining or metal work. Using sandpaper, emory cloth, scotch brite the way Will did is a common, standard practice used pretty much everywhere, everyday.
Holding a vice with a vice, now that's a move.
viceception
Will and Alec, your tool restorations are fantastic. They just don't make them like they used to back in the early 1900s, and it's great seeing these examples of unbelievable craftsmanship brought back to their full glory. Love seeing heirloom-quality tools given the treatment they deserve.
Printiss made one of the best vise that have ever been created. I collect them, and yours is a true gem Wil.
Yikes, I would have spent 1000s on a sand blaster before attacking that thing with a wire brush.
Please don't do that to an old vice, just use a wire wheel.
@@samnottheotherone4363 duly noted, but, why exactly ? Sand blasting is kind of unitrusive and works only on the surface, as far as i know
@@nicolaspillot5789 It does depend on the vice and the sandblaster, the blaster I use at work instantly removes millscale from a foot away but if you're running one off a compressor in your garage it obviously has less power, also the material quality on a vice can vary, I was brazing the base of a cast iron vice back together and decided to use a wire wheel on a grinder to clean it up and if I used much pressure it started to eat away at it because cast iron was softer than the steel brush spinning at 11000 rpm. This was just advising against buying a sandblaster to do that. If you have one and you know what you're doing you should be okay.
@@samnottheotherone4363 Couldn't you control what it can ablate away by changing the grit used? If the grit is too hard, try something softer?
@@BrokenLifeCycle that you could, I'll admit I only use it for removing scale, paint, and epoxy from thick structural steel so that hadn't crossed my mind.
Will looks like a little kid in that thumbnail.
Anyone else reminded of Ash from Pokemon?
thumbnail and video. he and alec are like perpetually 12
Its the rosey cheeks and pale skin.
I've never been so enthusiastic about a VIce before, genuinely well done Will, the love and attention you put into that is pretty damn inspiring!
looks great love the whole restoration process brought that ol' girl back to life great job
Will can you tell Alec to make a gun!
He probably won't because youtube will demon-itize.
Will is so cute. If I was a girl or gay, I'd totally date him.
(no homo)
@cocospops, Theres really no longer any reason for your ( ) qualifiers. Whatever your particular orientation, 1. Except for the bigots and sexualphobics and evangelical morons...nobody cares! Theres too much going on to care.
2. M/F/Whatever, Will is awfully cute! Those Rosey cheeks!
@@patricksanders858 Don't try to make the "no homo" joke into one of those things. take it lightly
@@patricksanders858 cringe
In my opinion, this video felt like top notch professional programming. The step by step explanations and the video footage and music editing all came together. Well done
You can really tell that y’all love what you do. Just the attention to detail at something as humble as a vise is just amazing.
First
The vice turned out incredible, great job on rebuilding it. I'm sure it will go quickly and someone will be using it for a very long time.
That thing really came back to life again! Beautifully done!
You should do more restoration videos. I really enjoyed watching Will restore this old vise. I have done a few vise restorations myself. If you do decide to do more restorations, I would suggest that you buy a good sand blaster and cabinet. They definitely make restoring rusty items easier.
Great job Will, the look on Alec's face was golden.
If only my government showed as much care and respect as Will does a vice.
Amazing work!
As a Machinist I love seeing you guys hone your skills and use the mill and lathe a lot more! One of my favorite channels for sure
I’d love to see more restorations videos. Taking a really old sword and taking it to perfection as you guys always do would be so cool 😎
So props to the camera guy for all the great angels but also the editor for the pacing of the video...AMAZING....
YEAH! SIMPLE GREEN! That stuff is soooooo amazing... I used it a lot when I was painting and cleaning apartments between residents. Never diluted it though, always used it straight out of the jug so it's at full strength and boy ooh boy does it just DESTROY grease and grime!!! Good to see others using it too!
What a cool project. Beautiful job! So nice to see old tools like this come back to life.
Whenever I see a video will makes I'm always super happy you two guys perfectly complement each other's work styles
Awesome restoration, Will! I have a slightly smaller vise, that’s mid-rebuild right now. You’ve given me a lot of pointers and inspiration, on how to proceed. Thank you!
A great job done there Will i just love to see you guys restoring old machinery and tools they have so much character and look fantastic on completion, keep them coming
I absolutely love your attention to detain and the amount of work you've put into this (and every item you've worked on) vice. You do EXCEPTIONAL work, and are a TRUE craftsman! Congrats on your work, someone is going to benefit to your attention to detail and craftsmanship! I'm glad I am a subscriber to your channel and I look forward to all your work (yea, Alec's too..lol)!! Thanks for that video, I look forward to your next find and restore!
The look of concern on Alec's face when Will fires up the torch 😂😂
Looks amazing at the end Will, great job.
This is one of the most satisfying videos you guys have done in a long time - well done! Love seeing that gorgeous old equipment get a new life
This isn't just a restoration, this thing is now in better mechanical condition than the day it was cast. It's better having passed through your hands, and should be damn proud of the legacy you've left in this tool.
Thanks guys great video! Shortly after your last vice restoration video my grandmother past away and we had to liquidate the estate. I inherited my grandfathers super old seized up vice. And with the pandemic I’ve had time to work on it. It turned out awesome after being even after being completely seized up! I’m no expert and wouldn’t even thought to have undertake this project without have seeing that video. Thanks to you guys I was able to turn a hunk of scrap iron into a second generation useful tool. Thanks again.
I imagine it would a TON of work with all the different angles and such, kudos!
Very well done! Love the old hardware like these!
Thoroughly enjoy watching these videos with the restorations. Please keep them coming. 👍👍👍👍👍
So nice to restore the old vise. Wonderful work.
Great restoration WIll, the fact you are now making proper stand alone videos is great to see. Keep up the great content guys, much love.
This must be one of the best edited videos that you have up so far. Loved it! It really went well together also with the music. Great job.
Outstanding work my friend, great look and function.
Great video. I’d love seeing more of Will’s restoration projects.
Great job Will! I love watching your restoration projects
Nice work Will. Keeping old thing alive that still work. Great - stay safe
Loved this video, something absolutely satisfying to see a tool restoration like this.
The reassembly process was very satisfying
It's absolutely awesome to see you gyz growing in the video making experience, I've been following Alec since he had 200k subscribers and I'm just so pumped to see how he transmitted the vibe to you Will, with your unbalancing sense of humour, and how you are bluffing everybody with the way you are growing this business now together, I'm definitely a big fan, if I had more thumbs, they would all be up !!!
Nice work lad, you did the foundrymen who made that old chipping vise proud.
This was the type of restoration I wanted you guys to do on the new hammer so bad! Great job Will.
Always impressed by your professionalism and joy
The music and editing is " on point " in this episode. bravo!!
Will, that vice is pristine man, honestly. Stunning!
I had to stop half way just to say Will you are a beast to meticulous work. Scraping and filing damn man. you are a boss
Will is a very talented young lad you should be proud to have him on your team Alec
Watching Will sand that giant vise base is what I needed to see, today!
I know it's not blacksmithing, but I actually really enjoy these restoration videos. I'd totally love if y'all keep making them as you get new equipment
I love watching will restore stuff
Loved the whole thing, but especially the gold lettering
I really like the colors that you chose it makes it look old and yet brand new.
awesome work on the vice Will it's a huge transformation from what it was.
Love the editing !!!!! Fun to watch and glad it was finished in a full video
More restorations please. Loved this
