I have a magazine from 1976 soon after the announcement that the McDonnell and Douglas corporations were discussing the merger that would later create the McDonnell Douglas corporation. Man, aviation history never gets boring.
Yes, We Canadians used to fly McDonnell Douglas DC-10s We miss them all!! The Canadian Air Carriers are CP air Wardair and Canadian Airlines up, I just remembered the very wingtip of the DC-10s. It looks like a bulb! Cheers on the DC-10s!!!
@Pvjinflight Yep you are correct, I'm with you on this one. The Sioux City crash was the only design error and yep after they fixed it the DC-10 rocked!
and also for reasons unknown. It's hard to maintain and old, yet loveable airliner. The plane's age tells us the equipment which to dat has been either replaced or updated. But still, mostly the cut on the Engineers. ;)
+Tim Congrove Same here. The flight number changed a few times over the years, but generally, I was always on UAL #47 SFO-OGG. I took #48 back home (or I might have them reversed). Remember they used to have the flight attendants wearing Hawaiian-style uniforms? And the Mai Tai's you could purchase on-board? Oh how I miss those things. On one of my trips, I took the "red eye" home OGG-SFO on a DC-8!! It seems like that would be a very long time ago, but relatively speaking (to my age...hah hah!) it wasn't. I think that DC-8 flight was in 1987 or so? It was eventually replaced with an ETOPS 767. I also remember the first time I heard about the ability to take a 737 to Hawaii! I was like WHAT?? You mean like a Southwest Airlines 737 that I take on short 50 minutes hops to LAX???? I couldn't believe it. But I eventually stopped flying United because their service became very poor, and I switched to flying out of Oakland on Aloha Airline's brand new ETOPS 737s. Aloha was a great airline!! I don't know where all of their modern 737s ended up, but I flew on every single one. I kept track of the "N" numbers and searched online and found out that I had been on every one that owned. They used to serve warm chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven and a glass of milk about an hour or less before landing. Man that was great. So many things I miss these days. And now in so-called "modern times", you can't even find a REAL airplane to fly on any more unless you book Southwest. Then at least you know you'll be on a 737. But with United, Delta, etc, they are all using the CRJ commuter jets for some very long flights. The CRJ-200 has got to me to the most uncomfortable airplane in the world. If you're tall, forget it. Especially if you're on a 3+ hour flight which is routine these days. I booked United from Saskatoon, SK, Canada to SFO. The aircraft was listed as a 757. A few weeks before departure, they sent me an email saying that the aircraft had been switched to a CRJ-700!!!! I cancelled my flight and ended up taking American to ORD, then ORD-SFO. It was a 757 on the first leg, and a 777 (to my shock) on the second leg.
i was on this same flight, i think it was a week earlier though, same time of year and date i went, i just dont remeber it as clear as that, although i dont really ememebr the whole trip anyways, love the dc10
awesome aircraft! Plenty of thrust! Larger plane - much! 400,000 lbs take off weight. It is like a big old Cadillac. It feels safer than today's twin engine carbon fiber planes. It's all about fuel consumption versus your safety!
OK, there is ONE incident of that happening. And, AFTER American Airlines DID NOT follow procedure. Oh, "your" and ID10T! (He may just think that last one was grammatically correct.) Here's another. Your grammar is horrible. (No, that IS NOT an attack on your ancestors!) Well, he got the American Airlines incident wrong, why should we expect he wouldn't get "your" right. steve
I believe it was due bad, terrible crash in chicago in somewhere in 1979 at O'hare airport.. And had bad crash record on this...... Than Lockheed L-1011.
I dont know why everyone wishes these DC-10's were around because as a former United employee, these planes were crap! always something wrong with them!
+Yolodude Correct. You can always tell the DC-10 from the other planes by the flipitcal flywheel attachment on the roving condovinator. But I'm sure you knew that already.
Because they have a horrible saftey record. Air new zealand. Turkish airlines. American airlines. So many more airlines. The DC-10 is one of the worst aircraft ever made! The L1011 is better.
This has got to be one of my favorite aircraft
I miss flying them on the short hops from Chicago to Detroit, back in the day, thanks for sharing!
jjouney remember flying American DC 10 from ORD to BUF.. in the 70s-80s
Excellent 👍👍. Awesome aircraft. Subscribed
what a beautiful approach and landing sir!! GOOD good and good! ;) exclent video.
on fsx I flew my longest flight, from norway to new york on a dc-10, and it is pretty hard to taxi with, but great to land with.
Interesting, the pilot chose a lesser degree of flaps than usual for this planes, good video!

Used up the entire runway. Awesome video. Miss that bird.
A DC-10, AND Maui!
What could be better?
Flying over pineapple
fields, I once picked.

Cheers on the DC-10s!!!
Me too. So beauiful enough to not get rid of the 70's to 90's color.
just one big flap! Simple and it works!
@Pvjinflight Yep you are correct, I'm with you on this one. The Sioux City crash was the only design error and yep after they fixed it the DC-10 rocked!
Not the only design error.

what was date of this flight cause united retired from the dc 10s a long time ago
Just like a normal plane, but more faster than a 2-engine plane!!!
Always flew on the DC-10 from Chicago to Honolulu as Flight 43

Tim Congrove do you remember what years the DC-10 was on ORD-HNL? I recall both UA and AA for a period of time.
Yes, Its 80's to 90's and until at nearly middle of 95's then all color change.
Those is friendship color, and known as "rainbow" color.
@frtguy80 So true this aircraft has one of the largest amount of aircraft accidents.
i was on this same flight, i think it was a week earlier though, same time of year and date i went, i just dont remeber it as clear as that, although i dont really ememebr the whole trip anyways, love the dc10
@mistaphill United flies their 777's in there all the time, dc-10 can rotate pretty quick too though
EATERN AIRLINES WAS MY FAVORITE CARRIER.
I like DC-10's. I'm afraid of flying on L-1011's because they maybe haunted XD
@Thebmwisthebest No it wasn't.... Each plane lands with a different pitch degree...
It was a Dc-10-10 or Dc-10-30?
series 10. The wing is a little shorter than the 30
the runway there is fairly short, surprised they flew this big bird into there
They fly 777’s in there everyday...if it’s big enough to handle a 777, it’s big enough to handle a DC-10 😉

THE DC-10 IS A KILLER, YOUR LUCKY ENOUGH THAT THE ENGINES DIDNT RIPP OFF AT TAKEOFF.
OK, there is ONE incident of that happening.

dang. and I only flew on the 757 to Maui from LAX in March of '98 and back to SFO on a 757. Would've liked to fly on this, but a 757 still owns.
I believe it was due bad, terrible crash in chicago in somewhere in 1979 at O'hare airport.. And had bad crash record on this...... Than Lockheed L-1011.
the dc-10 is pretty fast
Airlines don't want to pay for Flight Engineers.
they just don't make 'em like that anymore!!!
it's also cool to see how they acted before 9/11
nevermind
Damn all the comments are so old
I dont know why everyone wishes these DC-10's were around because as a former United employee, these planes were crap! always something wrong with them!
Its' Christmas :))
L-1011 tristars scare me
I can tell that's a md80
Nope
Yolodude i can tell that u have no idea what you're talking about
+Yolodude Correct. You can always tell the DC-10 from the other planes by the flipitcal flywheel attachment on the roving condovinator. But I'm sure you knew that already.
@MansMan918 destroyed? they gave them more buisness!
I ALWAYS FLEW IN L1011s TOO BAD THEY ARE ABSOLETE.
I agree! Kick those CEO!
Those are ignore what civilzation are try to tell that they like it.
L-1011 much better.
American Airlines destroyed Douglas aircraft corp.
MansMan918 true. And then briefly saved it with the MD-80 order there after.
Because they have a horrible saftey record. Air new zealand. Turkish airlines. American airlines. So many more airlines. The DC-10 is one of the worst aircraft ever made! The L1011 is better.
